Well done Rebel......Been keeping tabs from the office....Can't wait to get back out there. I have a wedding this weekend but will be out the weekend after. -
Saddles are good to look for also benches and drainages. Look for creek bottoms too. Anything that basically has a travel route on has a different contour. Once you have some spots picked out the only thing that will really tell you if you're right is boots on the ground. You can save yourself some mindless walking though by having these points of interest picked out before you venture out.

First sit of the year feels good to be back 50 degrees barely any wind barely any clouds. Light is just starting to break. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I usually just rest mine in my lap or lean it against my chair or a wall. They hide your movement so you can get away with a lot when hidden in those things. Some of them you can hang an S hook from the roof but I think that would cause the whole thing to jump up and down when you shift the weight so I never went that route.

I was looking around for awhile for a good deal so pulled the trigger on this today. Seemed like a good deal so I figured I would share in case anyone was in the market for one: http://www.cabelas.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=1813418&categoryId=0&parentCategoryId=0&subCategoryId=0&indexId=0&itemGUID=a0271d52ac1084524a6270b22ee3abc5&destination=%2Fuser%2Forder_details.cmd%3Fid%3DJHixM%252BbSo971A7WrbFSbxQ%253D%253D%26key%3D3fd64b338c894185af3b966d8c4fb48a

Has anyone used OnXMaps in NYS? Do you know if they show DEP lands on there?
-
All I can say if it says 24 it doesn't hold 24 if you have guns with scopes on them which I assume is a given. As TurkeyFeather said always buy bigger. Nothing wrong with having dead space, but it's always a problem when you run out of space.

Hey All, Does anyone have any good taxidermists located in 4Y or on the way down to the city. Would look to have some good and reputable on hand if need be. BK

When you say follow birds, what do you do if you only have a certain area you are able to hunt? I have been trying to find public land to bird hunt int he southern tier and haven't been to successful. Really don't want to hunt the salt water shores and am really limited to only hunting the fields where I deer hunt for geese. Never seen any ducks land there. There are however to small ponds on the property where I think I could set up but I think it is very hit or miss with more dead days then anything. Might get a flock fly in here and there over a weeks time.

I was planning to hit some of the streams in NY around the Catskills, but as stated I want something to bring in my pack so when I hike out west I can fish out there too. I am a complete newbie here and just always wanted to do it so I have no idea what NY has to offer close to the city where I am located. I know there is an Orvis on 5th ave that offers free intro to fly fishing classes to give you the basics. I was also thinking of maybe doing a weekend after I take that class up in Roscoe and getting a guide for a day to really give me better instruction and then take it from there.

Thanks all for the recommendations so far!

Hey All, Can anyone recommend a decent start fly set up? Looking to try fly fishing, and would like something I can slip into a pack when out camping and hiking. Thanks for any recommendations. BK
