I would like to start taking some pictures while out in the field and also take better pictures of the animals I harvest. Also start messing around a little with some amateur photography. Can anyone recommend a camera that wont break the bank but takes good pictures and is a good starter camera?

In my opinion even if you don't see any bear, you can use it as time in the woods to scout for deer season. Don't see the down side here especially if you don't have to travel far.

I would like to. Was thinking of taking a day trip somewhere int he southern zone, just to walk and still hunt some public land. Also use the hunt in order to scout some new deer spots. Whats your plan?

Nope separate tags. I think its worth it. You get to extend your season, and get additional tags and add more meat to the freezer. I actually prefer hunting with the bow and muzzle loader, but still hunt with the rifle to switch it up a little.

No clue but he's a shooter

Yea I've used them before. Bought a pair of light weight merino wool long johns. Good for those first cool days but after that need something warmer.

my intention was for both. I know I should have it out around now, but like I said I have had bee's nest in them before and I was trying to avoid that.
-
I was up this last weekend checking on and moving some stands around, and I have a pop up blind that I want to set up, but did not leave out yet. The reason for this is I do not want any bees to start a nest in it. I know you should leave them out for some time so the animals get used to them and the smell dissipates. I was planning to go back up in the middle of September and set it up and leave it out. Do you think this is enough time for it to settle in for the deer?

Congrats on getting licensed, You put the address of the property that is being posted. It's your property you shouldn't feel bad about keeping people out who won't have the same respect for it as you will. Good luck. I'm located in Astoria.

I would still post your property. I have wandered off sometimes not even realizing I walked into someone else's land as it was not posted.
-
I would recommend res posting the property. This will at least show people you are serious about trespassing and that their is a new land owner. Did the old owner inform anyone with previous rights that they sold it?

Do gun laws make us safe?
BKhunter replied to NFA-ADK's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
By no means do I think cops should be judge and jury and someone isn't entitled to their due process. I do also think there were and still are LOE that cross the line which is the reason for some of the regulations in place. All I am saying is I feel more laws and regulations have been put in place which gives a criminal more room to become more bold. -

Personally I think with all the laws being passed and LOE guidelines its encouraging criminals to become more bold. If you break the law I see nothing wrong with a cop smashing you into the ground. I was watching TV recently where this kid in Chicago stole a run and was basically trying to run the cops over. When they gave chase and shot him in the back the news was saying the cops will most likely be prosecuted because when the criminal fled it was against guidelines for the cops to shoot a fleeing suspect. Personally I'm waiting for the day when cops says they had enough and don't show up to work because they feel like they can't do their job without being prosecuted. -
From what I understand it is where the item is being shipped to that they have to charge the tax of the state. I think Amazon had a huge issue with back taxes years ago that set the precedent.

In your opinion is the membership worth it? Do you prefer them over cabelas and other stores?

Slick, I'm interested in hunting anything that moves out west. Sheep and Mountain Goat are on the top of my dream list but bison is there too.

Just trying to get everyone's view on the sportsman's guide. Is it worth becoming a member has anyone had any bad experiences with this company? Looks like they some good deals on stands and trail cameras that I was interested in but wanted to see how they are with customer service in case I am not happy with the products.

Checked the cams this weekend and got three stands set up. Nice surprise to see my first ever bear on the property where we hunt. Don't see to many of them in the Hudson valley.

Awesome deer

I did the math, and I think I will break even roughly when I'm early 50's. I plan on having a lot more years of hunting after that so it seemed like a sound investment.

You also have to pay for the lifetime archery and muzzle tags which are $235 a pop I think. All in you're looking around $1200
