I brought this up on another post yesterday, but I feel it deserves its own thread. The government and big business are looking to transfer public lands owned by the american people over to state ownership, which is basically a backdoor way to privatize the land which can be shown through history and how these transfers have played out. I recommend you read the article at the link below. Previously this hasn't made to many large publications, but its nice to see larger publications starting to speak on the issue. http://www.fieldandstream.com/articles/hunting/2016/08/transferring-control-of-federal-lands-would-devastate-hunting-and-fishing?src=SOC&dom=fb If you find this disturbing which I do I suggest you look at Randy Newberg's videos he has put on You Tube on the issue as well as checking out groups like the Backcountry Hunters and Anglers. This is happening out west but it is still your land held in a trust for the US people owned by the US people. Once there start getting away with it, you will more than likely see it happening here in your home state of NY and find your hunting and angling opportunities a thing of the past.

Have a few more stands to hang. Checked the cameras last time were were up some decent activity, but I need to run more cams. Only have two out. Need to save some funds this year to hopefully buy a few more.

I hope your right, as My Bday is the 10th and I have the 11th off I will be out that whole long weekend. My favorite time is to be out around that time. Every few years I have seen the gun opener to have a lot of action, but the majority of years it is right before and then goes quiet.

Giving Away Federal Lands
BKhunter replied to Uptown Redneck's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Grow, Actually the push to transfer our federal public lands has been being pushed harder by the republicans. I'ma registered republican so don't take that as a jab from the other side of the isle. I think what really needs to happen is weather the Congressman/Senator is republican or a democrat, they need to be voted out. This way whoever comes in realizes that they should be working for the people and not big business. Term limits would also help so this way they actually do public service and not try to keep their donors happy. I highly encourage anyone on this forum to look at Randy's materials that were put out on public land transfer and also look at the Back Country Hunter and Anglers group. Even if you don't hunt out west it still can happen here when they realize what they can get away with. Also, these lands are in a trust for the american people. I don't ever remember getting a check when these lands were transferred and then sold off. -
My friends father used to use one of those......Man that thing looks scary lol.

We got our first ever bear on a trail camera this year. Hopefully it stays in the area for hunting season.

Giving Away Federal Lands
BKhunter replied to Uptown Redneck's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
This is a major issue in the west. Rand Newberg has put out a lot of great material regarding this matter on his you tube channel. The american public is basically being robbed blind. -
Not really a shock...... http://nypost.com/2016/08/16/will-new-yorkers-ever-be-free-of-endless-government-rules-and-sky-high-taxes/

Hunting Boot/Shoe Question
BKhunter replied to Lawdwaz's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
If you're looking at hiking boots, I bought a pair of Solomon's that I have been hiking with and plan on using out west. They are fantastic. I also heard good things about Crispi Nevada's. -
You could also just hang them from a tree where you shot them and quarter them out there and then pack out the quarters.

Any recommendations. I could use some cabin fever relief during January and Feb. If Bis is right and they allow it to go to March my dream of hunting year round is almost complete.

Never hunted the island. Is there any public land?

Do gun laws make us safe?
BKhunter replied to NFA-ADK's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
With all of those dangerous weapons laying around and high capacity clips. I really would love to know why we have these mass shootings and they don't. I think jamming down legislation without really doing a good study and understanding the route cause is making people more disgruntled and adding to the growing powder keg. -
Do gun laws make us safe?
BKhunter replied to NFA-ADK's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Nothing for nothing, but one of the main reasons for the second amendment was for the public to be able to overthrow a tyrannical government if it ever needed to. Pretty sure our semi auto AR-15 with 30 rounds aren't doing much against uncle Sam's drones and full auto weapons. They are basically passing so much regulation in major cities to make it so hard to get a gun no one wants to even bother anymore basically letting the general public disarm themselves on their own. Switzerland I believe has one of the highest gun ownership percentages per capita in the world with some of the lowest crime, The problem in my eyes aren't guns, it is the current laws and other issues that go unaddressed. -
I have a 30-06 and I have shot deer from 20-200 yards. I agree with one of the posters above. Site the rifle in at 100, but practice at all ranges so are comfortable how it shoots and where to aim. Get comfortable with all ranges so you are prepared for any opportunity that arises.

I think its more of a gun spot since I would have more open field shots and it is a big field, but bow is not out of the question as like I said the tree is only 30-40 yards off the wood line so if anything does come out around the tree it is in range. I have also heard that white tails will sometimes gravitate towards a single tree in fields. Not sure if that is true or not.

Trying to get everyone's thoughts here and I know it's hard without an actual picture, but The front of the property I hunt is a crop field with this year being soy bean. The wood line is the border of the neighboring property on all 3 sides which we do not have permission to hunt. However there is a nice mature tree 30-40 away from the wood line in the crop field. I was thinking of putting a stand up in that tree for the season. Even if not a great hunting spot at least I can see the deer moving in and out of the field and track their travel patterns and maybe get a shot at them towards the back of the property if that's where they are moving to or from. What are everyone's thoughts here?

Also, I think checking your cams every two weeks is to much IMO. I check them about once a month or every 6 weeks.

These video are on Netflix?

Meat Eater isn't a bad show but the rest of them I haven't really learned squat and think it's one giant commercial so I stopped watching them. I watch a lot of you tube. Randy Newberg has some good stuff same with Hushin.

Def do your research. If the outfitter meets your criteria GO!! You never know what tomorrow brings.

Jumped a couple of fawns this weekend when I was out working on the stands.......Didn't see much of anything else though deer wise. So a nice big group of turkey poults though.
