  1. This place is supposed to be very good. http://www.antlerkitchenbar.com/ He's also been in the news lately with Vegans protesting his restaurant. https://www.eater.com/2018/3/28/17171962/toronto-chef-butchers-deer-vegan-protesters-antler
  2. I'm currently going through this now. I had a tick dig into me two weekends ago and was pretty deep. I wasn't sure if he got into me that day or the day prior. The doctor recommended treating me as if the tick did have lymes. I never take any meds so i rather lean on the side of caution and take the antibodies. He had me on 100mg of Doxy which I am just finishing up. From now on I'm using sawyers and being more diligent each time I come out of the woods. That was a scare I didn't like.
  3. Thanks TurkeyFeathers. The reviews on that stuff look great.
  4. Was upstate this weekend and wound up getting a tick on me. I don't think he was on for too long, but it was long enough for him to borough into my back and cause enough discomfort for me to notice him on the car ride home. Long story short I was at the doctor getting it dug out and was prescribed a dose of antibiotics in the event it was a carrier of lime. This is the first time I had a tick that deep in, and I don't want to have to take antibiotics each time I get a tick latch on to me. I may be freaking out and the doctor may have been overly cautious, but Lyme scares the hell out of me. I wanted to do some scouting this year out in LI and I know there are a ton of ticks out there. Can anyone recommend some good prevention methods beside the obvious off deep woods which I like to avoid putting on while hunting? Also their thoughts if I jumped the gun on the antibodies? I' m one of those people that don't even like taking advil so this is bother me that I had to take this stuff. BK
  5. I highly doubt NY will get a spring bear season. CO doesn't even have one and that population is starting to get out of hand. It was voted out years ago and from what I am hearing they don't think they will be able to get it reinstated.
  6. I did a DIY elk archery trip last year in CO. One thing I can say is make sure you're in great shape. A great resource is www.Rokslide.com. Awesome western hunting forum with tons of information. Happy to be a resource and answer any questions you may have. Shoot me a PM anytime. I came out empty handed, but it was an awesome experience. I also went in solo and was my first time ever western hunting. BK
  7. Was looking into getting the new Matthews Triax. Has anyone bought this bow and tested it out yet? Any thoughts? BK
  8. Thanks for the input. Heard nothing but good things about Danner.
  9. Danner does free shipping and free returns. I've heard nothing but good things about them so I may give them a try.
  10. How did they perform in the cold? Do you normally get cold feet?
  11. Am I better off getting two pairs then? On light hiking with some thinsualte and then heavy duty mucks?
  12. My boots took a crap on me this year and whenever I walk now in dew my feet get soaked.....Not sure where the water is coming in from so I think it is about that time for new boots. Looking for something that isn't to clunky so I can hike around in them but also looking for something that will keep my feet warm when posted in the tree stand. I hunt all the way into December and my feet are one of the first things to get cold. I had a pair of Irish Setters w/ 800 grams of thinsulate. The boots were comfy to hike in but my feet still got cold when posted. Any suggestions on boots? BK
  13. I went on my first one this year. It all depend on if you want to go do it yourself or guided. I would head over to www.Rokslide.com. It's an awesome resource. I would up doing a 1 week long solo back pack hunt with my box in Colorado. What a tough hunt but also an awesome experience. No matter which route you want to go, Rokslide is hands down in my opinion the best western hunting form out there. Tons of useful info and the forum is awesome. Elk hunting is tough hunting though, especially DIY. I struck out but can't wait to go again.
  14. I have a Matthews.....Am seriously considering the new bow tech as I heard great things about it.
  15. should be same date that licenses go on sale
  16. Thanks! I tried using SLIM before, but the layers aren't loading. Might be an issue with the system I am using.
  17. Hello All, I am trying to determine what WMU a town is in. I have a decent idea, but I want to confirm it 100% on a map. The map online in the back of the hunting regs doesn't have the town shown, and when i zoom in to see the roads it gets way to blurry. Does anyone else know another resource I can look at? The town in question is Denver. BK.
  18. Looking to do some overnight hiking trips this spring. Does anyone have any recommendations for the southern tier on a nice day hike where you can set up a little back country camp for the night in the southern tier? I am located down in the city so something within a reasonably drive.

    Rubs

I did not see a lot of rubs this year......A lot less than I normally do
  20. Just heard first shots in 4y..... beautiful morning Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Really can't wait to do a trip like this.
  22. I think ours in 4y is bad not sure what it is though. I will say I have seen a ton of spikes this year.
  23. Didn't see much activity this weekend Wound up taking a doe on Saturday night with the compound. At least I have some meat in the freezer. Like was said above I think this super moon messed them up. Hoping this weekend it's in full swing. I think also with the increased pressure in the woods you are going to see a lot of movement. Where I hunt not to many bow hunters around. Come the gun opener the amount of people in the woods I think will increase 10 fold and they will be pushed all over the place.
  24. If you have time to kill and want a good BBQ lunch there is Hometown BBQ in red hook which isn't to far from Park Slope.
  25. Going through the city that time of day is brutal no matter what. Once you go over the bridge and are in BK I would recommend taking the side roads. The BQE mid day is always a disaster.
