  1. Had 3 does and a button buck come out at 100 yards. Waited until the very end to see if big poppy would show up but nothing. Big doe never gave me a good shot. Always had a stalk of corn between us or she was quartering to me. Below is a picture of my set up.
  2. What if you bring an unlicensed friend to video your hunt? I have a buddy who doesn't hunt but always said he would be more than willing to come sit and video tape and just hang out. Not sure what the ruling on that would be.
  3. Well my neighbor who plants corn on my property finally decided that he is going to cut the 30 acre cornfield. He made 2 passes around the field today before a chain broke on the corn chute. Talked to him and he said he would finish tomorrow. Needless to say, I'm heading over there in a few minutes to hunt. Hope one of the big boys get hungry and decide to step out before dark. And truth be told, I'll smoke a doe if she walks out too. Hahaha, I love venison!
  4. I miss bow hunting. Have grown to like it more and more over the last couple years. The close encounters and thrill of getting as close as possible without them knowing you are there is a great rush. But, there is nothing like making a good shot on a nice deer with your gun. I guess I am very fortunate to have the land that we do on the farm and the neighbors that I do. We have nearly 100 acres, are bordered by my neighbor who owns ~350 acres to the south and west, to the east is another farm with ~200-300 acres, and a hunt club with a couple hundred acres just to the north that practices AR. They don't do a lot of deer drives, are very respectable of others boundaries, and don't have a ton of people hunting the property. I hardly ever see anyone in the woods while hunting, so that is probably why I don't mind gun season as much. I will bring my bow with me once in a while during gun season, sounds foolish but what the hell.
  5. Shot this doe tonight walking through the corn.
  6. I shoot them in my savage 212 and love them. Shot a 9 point 2 years ago at 165 yards. Dropped him in his tracks. Probably killed 5 or 6 does with them. Accurate and plenty of knockdown power.
  7. Shot this doe tonight at 4:25. She was hauling A$$ towards me thanks to my neighbors!
  8. Got in my favorite stand nice and early, settled in and took my hour nap as I waited for the sun the rise. At 6:30 I get a text from the wife that says our youngest is puking and has diarrhea. Told her I would be back at 7:30 to help out (1/2) mile walk to my stand. Just packed up and was ready to unload the gun when I heard rustling in leaves. Look up through the wall of fog and make out a deer 40 yards away. Perfect! Put the scope on it, flat head, even better. Turn off safe and squeeze...click! She trotted off. Dumbass...shoots better with bullet in chamber. Oh well. She wasn't spooked at least.
  9. My 6 year old will be with me tomorrow evening in our double stand. The 2 year old is shooting the deer on the covers of magazines with his nerf gun. I think that's good, right?
  10. Here are couple bucks from out of state. The first is a friend from Illinois that shot this monster 13 point as his first deer. He just started hunting a year ago. Told him that will tough to top. This one is from my brother in law in Virginia. Super tall heavy 6 point with a 17 1/2" spread.
  11. That is a serious rub! Think it's from the one in your avatar?
  12. I shoot a Diamond Deadeye and love it. I also have a Diamond Black ice that I love as well. Two completely different styles of bows. I used to shoot Hoyt and had no issues with them. A couple guys on here shoot the Obsession lethal force which has received nothing but good reviews. Had I not been in need of a bow a few days before bow season started I would have ordered one. Definitely shoot a bunch! Since price doesn't seem to be an issue, you shouldn't have to settle for anything that isn't a perfect fit. Good luck.
  13. 7mm-08 would prob suit you well. I don't have one but my aunt does. She and my uncle go moose and caribou hunting every year and that is what she uses. I would say it will knock down a bear if you see one. Or like mentioned above, the good ole 25-06. I love mine.
  14. North country- Remington 7600 30-06, bushnell elite 3-9 x 40, 168 gr Winchester ballistic silvertip. At home sitting in the woods- Savage 110 bolt action 30-06, Leupold 3-9 x 40, 168 grain Winchester ballistic silvertip. Sitting the field- H&R single shot ultra hunter 25-06, Leupold 4-12 x 40, 117 grain Hornady custom SST
  15. Yes he is the guy! I take everything I can't do myself to him. He does awesome work. He also is very fair priced on guns. Doesn't sell any junk.
  16. That looks pretty sweet! Nice work.
  17. How much are you looking to spend? That is the main question. I have a Savage 212 bolt action and love it. Won't use it anymore since we are now a rifle county (Cayuga). But I would highly recommend it to anyone. Or, if you prefer a pump or semi-auto, make the drive up to Weedsport and check out Dave Klotz at DaMar gunsmith. He specializes in accurizing pump and semi-auto shotguns and has a few for sale at decent prices.
  18. I would say the one on the right scores low 90's and the one on the left may get close to 100". My deer net scores 85 5/8. 12 5/8 inside, right main beam of 15 7/8, 2 2/8 G1, 5 5/8 G2, 4 6/8 G3. Left side is almost identical. Pretty nice 1 1/2 year old. Not the. Biggest on my wall, but a very nice buck. I would be proud of the 2 you have in the banana box...definite trophies.
  19. Here is a buck to compare to. My first 8 point shot 10 years ago. The pics have a measuring tape to show length. Give me your guess, as I had it scored officially. I think it compares to the smaller buck in the OP's pic.
  20. I can be accused of saying "good shot" on the harvest thread, but it was meant with sarcasm. I know it's tough to tell from words on a screen when something is sarcastic. I will agree that is a shot that most experienced ethical hunters would not take. My guess is that he is fairly new to bow hunting, buck fever set in, and he panicked rather than waiting for a good shot opportunity. Needless to say, if you do shoot a deer like that, take the arrow out and then take pictures. Or don't post pictures of the deer with the arrow stuck in its mouth and neck. This way you can completely avoid the criticism.
  21. Hope you get him. Would love to see what he scores and weighs.
