  1. Nice work for a new bow. My suggestion based on the groups I am seeing is go to a multi dot target. As you start slapping arrows together it will affect your shooting. I've seen guys where their shooting all of a sudden goes to hell and it's the arrows from practice contact (not to mention it gets expensive). I practice august and first half of September shootign multiple arrows. The last two weeks it is walking out at a random distance to the target and shooting one arrow a night.
  2. A lot of boots on the ground prior to the hunting date is what will take your odds above a wish and a prayer.
  3. do a little research on "honey burns"
  4. I am off November 1st through 3rd (and hunting that weekend) . Then I am off the whole week of Thanksgiving. Then the rest of the Fridays of gun
  5. Whatever helps you sleep at night brother. lol. Needed bacon.
  6. Where in CNY are you that you think there aren't any bear?
  7. There are a few leases still available with this timber company. I lease from them and have had great luck. You can post it, use it all year round and can camp on it. I see they have some leases in Chemung county. https://www.cottonhanlon.com/hunting-leases
  8. bass pro with a promo card and that gave pricing on Winchester Hollow points at 5 cents or under.
  9. I am familiar with that area up there. I would get on Google earth and the DEC interactive map. I'd start my search there and look at the beaver flows and meadows that are to the east side of the lake. There are several between Indian Lake and Siamese ponds. These areas open the canopy to allow fresh growth, provide soft ground to look for tracks and are frequented because bears LOVE beaver. It is a LONG was between roads up there. use caution and be careful. If you think draggin a deer out of an area is tough it doesn't even come close to how difficult moving a bear is.
  10. i use to really like it when the regulations guide was printed only. I looked forward to reading it cover to cover each year after I got my license. I also preferred the small fishing regulations book that fit in the pocket of my fishing vest. The last two years I had to read it online becasue I couldn't find a printed copy anywhere.
  11. If we let the 1.5's walk that would dramatically change the landscape. I haven't heard any conversations where the program was discussed to actively push for letting 2.5's walk.
  12. I think they did a good job on those pages.
  13. Why don't you cut and paste that to a new thread in the recipes section. That one would be worth keeping it there and not seeing it get buried. Thanks
  14. I run ads for people even when I don't have open positions just to evaluate who is in the market and how many. When I do have a need I want the largest resume pool I can get to draw from.
  15. All great points spoken by someone who obviously hasn't had anything major go wrong. I've had to make my way in to find an uncle with a broken leg. No cells back then and I doubt there was coverage anyway. Telling someone where you are is great for a general area but will not put you on point. 3 shot volleys at dark are just what got us to him.
  16. Swing over to my buddy's pole barn one day we are cutting. you can see how we handle 3 with just one hoist. works fine for the amount of times there are multiples.
  17. I have had them lock the brakes up at the first shot a few times.
  18. I honestly am not very picky about shot placement if I am on the track of a wounded deer. Ear, hoof, heart or hind quarter are all fair game (an exaggeration but I think you get my point) in an attempt to finish the tracking and avoid any further suffering. Even small game hunting for animals like ducks. If you are choked full you are probably only looking at a 14-15" circle pattern at 20 yards. It is odd how we take a different view of what should be done based on the animal we are hunting. I think it was Buckmaster that talked about shooting still birds on the ground or ducks on the water not being ethical but moving shots on deer considered unethical by some. In states where deer are run with dogs i guarantee there is no standing shots in those outings.
  19. You ever have a deer take off running after you shoot it the first time? Ever have to track a wounded deer and have it jump up running? i can absolutely see a need to practice this. i grew up small game hunting and most of that behind beagles and hounds. We drove deer when I was younger. Running shots at deer were common. That was how the hunting was done with my father and uncles. It was how they did it with theirs. I've put down quite a few running over the years. It really was in the drive set ups. Leaving yourself a running 100 yard hardwoods shot is a poke and a prayer. Those aren't the shots we took. Getting into position to have a running shot at 40 yards or under makes for a very very make-able shot.
  20. We do between 10 and 20 deer a year. Many in multiples. Worth every bit of hassle that you think there may be to hit a button and cut at the perfect standing height. I don't get what messing around you think there is with a 12 volt battery. Plug in a trickle charger and walk away. I know. Tough work
  21. Nice looking ride Taco. Only one color for a cruiser in my book...black CHERRY. LOL. good luck with the sale.
  22. I remember it being quite a bit lower than the other branches as well
