How to train a young bird dog
Culvercreek hunt club replied to RangerClay's topic in General Hunting
Intoroduction to gun fire....well there is an all or nothing result. My last Springer the breeder/trainer had me start with a kids cap gun in the other room while the pup was eating. everything is ramped up from there based on the reaction. he never flinched through the entire process. My wife on the other hand was constantly diving behind the couch..lol. -
It is your call and that is why I mentioned what the official stance is in my post. The same warnings are for pork. Shushi is another problem for some and no more than a few meals a month of NY fish.....

Sako AV 25-06 Left Hand For Sale

beautiful gun if it wasn't "WRONG" handed GLWS -
You mean eating their own waste like chickens?..LOL I have had bear many times and as others have said it is more about care of the meat and what they are eating than anything else. I know everything you read Officially on how to cook it says otherwise but just like venison I don't care for it done more than medium rare. (other than the pot roast) Most people that say they don't like bear...or venison for that matter I ask how they eat beef and they say well done. Heck I don't even like a shoe leather venison steak. If you are going to use the hide for a mount or a rug contact the taxidermist you are going to use for how he wants it cared for. Because of the type of fat on a bear and how well their fur insulated and holds heat in there is a risk of very quick bacteria growth in the fat and that will cause the hide to let loose of the hair. The last one I took the hide was put in the freezer in a matter of 4 hours from the time I took it becasue it was so warm out. Unfortunately I think being rolled up it took to long for the entire mass to cool and the hair didn't hold. Scrape off as much fat as you can. Lay it out flat and hammer the salt on the inside of the skin.

Broome County Upland/Duck Hunting Areas?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to Diogenes's topic in Waterfowl Hunting
Wouldn't think it is Beaver Dam State forest. Anything I have seen there is pretty much mature forest. not very good Pheasant cover. -

http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/45415.html if it is just you and you don't have a dog or a boat I suggest maybe trying the small streams and beaver ponds. -
as a rule remember how we sleep to get the general flow of thermals. up in the morning and down in the evening. So his logic was sound. if you are hunting the hillside he is staying upwind fromthe deer movements . wind and actuall topographic features can make subtle changes but the general rule is correct.

What is wrong with this does back?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to MACHINIST's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
This may be a good point to refresh everyone about really checking over every deer you harvest for evidence of old wounds (even if this one isn't). Reaching inside to field dress an animal and coming in contact with an old broad head is not something you want to do. Once the excitement and high fives are out fo the way look for any signs of a previous would that could be healed over. I saw close call one time while dressing one of my Uncle's bucks. It was a broad head under the back bone about where the tenderloins were. The spine actually started to heal around the blades but there was still cutting surface exposed. -
There is no Lifetime Supersportsman. but A lifetime Sportsman should include the regular season Antlered tag and a bear tag. I would believe you purchased the DMP and Archery for just this year and that is why you got the tags. Two years ago a friend of mine bought his lifetime over the counter just prior to the season and they printed his big game tags right there. I would follow up on this I think they screwed up not giving you the regular season deer and bear tags. (They gave you the turkey tags after all which were part of that lifetime purchase)

Oh. I just see this thread taking a very bad turn for the worse in the not so distant future...lol

Well it would only be one PP from last year becasue I don't thik they issue PP for a denied 2nd choice, only the first choice. But a PP in a High area should be a slam dunk.
