  1. Why do you need a saw for field dressing? I have never had to cut a bone to do it. I prefer a slim blade about 4" in length. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
  2. Beautiful morning. ....... For golf. I thought the bugs would be worse but haven't seen any. Deer passion. Dollars to donuts it was an owl. Watch you eyes. They see the blinking and think they are small prey. Got a face mask on? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
  3. edbone- Might want to start looking here. Go to page 8 for the Model 1894 http://www.winchesterguns.com/support/files/images/wfa/2012-All/2012-Articles/Winchester-Manufacture-Dates-by-Year----2012-Scanned-Documents.pdf
  4. Depending on the specifics of his gun I wouldn't do anything about mounting anything until I knew the condition and the value. That really is a model and caliber that could swing wildly in value especially if is is correct on the age.
  5. Red squirrels of course but for some reason over the last 5 years the crows have decided the block of woods about 100 yards from my favorite stand seems to be their new prefered roosting area. hundreds of them. it only last for a bit int he morning but that is right during that magical time. it can be deafening. No chance of hearing a deer walking during that time.
  6. Have you seen the ballistics on the Leverrevolution rounds? It really makes it a different gun. (Just like they do for the 30/30. I had hopes of working up a load using them for mine but here we sit wit the seasons upon us and I ran out of time.
  7. My Uncle had one and I always drooled over that gun. After his death hi son sold it for partying money.
  8. And if you can find the LEVERevolution rounds by Hornady you can push that out further. http://www.hornady.com/store/32-Win-Special-165-gr-FTX-LEVERevolution/ That is over 1,000 ft/# of energy at 300 yards. with the Winchester Super X you maybe at eh 175 mark for 1,000 ft/# http://www.winchester.com/Products/rifle-ammunition/Performance/Super-X-rifle/Pages/X32WS2.aspx
  9. 32 special is a great deer caliber. I wouldn't hesitate to take a shot inside 150 yards on deer or a bear. Any idea what year the gun was made?
  10. Good luck to everyone. I will be in my stand tomorrow There is nothing at work that can't wait until Wednesday.
  11. You would stand a better chance requiring a hunter to cut of a finger in payment for a license than getting majority support for a shorter gun season in NY
  12. If it is EAB the why not mandatory check in. The nothing is left int eh woods. If you don't want to check them in there still won't be anything left in the woods becasue you can just REPORT you got one and don't have to leave the computer...lol. Our state it too varied in topography, habitat, hunter density and deer density to have any statewide plan that fits everywhere.
  13. Ok, Funny story. Last year my daughter boy friend was all gun ho to get into hunting. I took him shooting, helped him practice and got him all set up. Opening weekend was all set and he was joining us at camp. For a few months before the season I kept telling him that we had a few rituals at camp. If you missed a buck you got you shirt tail cut off. This happens every time you miss until you get your first buck. Second was that he may want to take a doe as his first deer becasue he had two choices after his first kill. 1. have his way with it or 2. take a bite out of the heart. Fast forward to the night before the opener. He asked my father if there was anything he had to do if he got a deer? (Silly boy must have thought I didn't get the old man up to speed...lol) Dad told him word for word. He didn't see a deer for 3 day, or at least none he admitted to. On the fourth day I honestly had forgotten all about the spoof and he shoots probably the biggest doe we hae taken at camp. I went down after his shot and he did as I had told him. pinpoint where you shot, how it reacted and the last place you saw it. he was flawless. put me right onthe blood trail and he took her right through the heart. Very easy track for him. So we are high fiving each other and all of a sudden he is all quiet and has his head hanging down. I am thinking he is sad becasue he killed a deer. I ask him what is wrong and he looks at me and asked me which choice I had made. I almost wet myself....lol. He was almost as happy when I told him we had been pulling his leg as he was when he came up to the deer.
  14. I think I remember FSW saying he didn't favor the electric method. Don't remember the comment but it was something about being all manual.
  15. I just knew this thread was going to fall off a cliff when I read Steve's comment...lol
  16. QDMA's formal position statement. http://www.qdma.com/news/faq-qdmas-stance-on-captive-deer-breeding
  17. I barely like her at home! Why on earth would I want her in the woods with me? Just kidding. Really though she has NO interest at all.
  18. I think the only difference between then and now is this. Now that can't mandate they work and if they do I remember reading they have to be paid to do it. I Think they should be forced to work and lern a skill that better sets them up for when they are returned to society. Doesn't make sense to me to keep them in there and turn them out with the same of worse ability to provide for themselves. I don't have an issue with the accomodations or food Sheriff Joe is using. They are not owed a specif menu. There should be a basic nutritional value that needs to be met and that is it.
  19. I have heard guys say they don't like to report becasue they think it will effect the quota in their unit the next year. Imagine that logic. That is how it is supposed to work. I spoke with DEC over this subject a few years ago and they want it in 7 days. BUT they understand there may be issues in doing that. Things like guys at camp and I have gone over the 7 myself becasue of it. If you are off the grid for 10-12 days hunting it can be hard to hit the 7 day mark. I bet like my other post most of those come by way of another complaint first.
  20. I know one guy that got a ticket for not reporting. DEC was tipped off for another reason and the guy had a picture and the story on his open Facebook page. No report of the kill had been made. They couldn't ticket him on the original complaint but did on the not reporting.
  21. I have never used them but I do know of one friend that bought a Monte Carlo stock for his and that raised it enough.
  22. You carry all 3 and wound it with the bow, slow it down with the shotgun and finish it off with the ML.
