Maine- Fall Black bear Hunting over Bait?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to backstrapbuster's topic in Out of New York Hunting
I did two hunts in Ontario for Fall bear over bait. On my first trip I was told the best time is very early morning and evening. "No need to be in the stand from 10am to 3pm". Well the first trip theat is when the bear hit the bait on the first day of the hunt...never to return. I got skunked that trip but scored the following year. It was ok. I did see moose and wolves but I probably wouldn't repeat it again. A+++ on the thermacell and good head net. The bugs were terrible. Where we went in Ontario it was about 6 hours from Syracuse. -
Huge Buck Ithaca/Cayuga Heights 16 pt?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to HectorBuckBuster's topic in Bow Hunting
Gotta be honest HT sounds like you have a huge case of sour grapes with this guy. If you have all this proof then stroll into the police and DEC and present it. If the guy is that big of an outlaw get him locked up. -
Gotta love a solution to a problem that doesn't exist..lol. Wasn't there a 458 lever gun too?

Looking for ATV

Dave. you bring up a great point I should have mentioned. The Bayou is shaft driven but so is my Polaris Sportsman. That is the secondary drive. The primary is what I ws refering to on the belt driven comment. THe Bayou is another good example of a good pulling machine because the primary is gear driven NOT belt driven like mine. I am not sure if this is a hard fast rule but usually if you dont have to shift it ...it has a belt primary. (like a snowmobile) -
weren't there 3 that were considered their Big Bore guns. Were they the 358/375/458? I can't remember. I had a buddy that sought them out in good condition. that is what he collected.

suggestion. If you are mainly using for riding, the independent rear suspession in the bomb. If it is mainly a work horse the solid rear axle is ok and actually easier to lock so the suspension doesn't move during implement use. Now if you are using it for a lot of towing and implement use I would suggest avoiding the belt driven models. I have a Polaris sportsman (belt driven0 and my father has a Bombardier Trackster and his you have to shift it is not a belt drive and it pulls like crazy and no smoking belts. Both are 500's and it is amazing what they can do. -

New York Crossbow Hunters..
Culvercreek hunt club replied to sits in trees's topic in CrossBow Hunting
Well chalk me up as another bowhunter that is for inclusion. So if I read your points correctly you would be just as happy to not have crossbows included as eliminating the lawless gunhunters from the woods all together too? I mean if they are trespassing poachers, why not just pull their ability to do it. Then if we see anyone in the woods with a gun during deer season we will just know they are a criminal. I don't know where you guys hunt that you see this massive overrun of hunters plowing through the woods during gun season. I have hunted near or on state land in Region 5, 6, 7 and 8 my entire life. There is less state land pressure now than there used to be. It is almost vacant in most peices I know after Thankgsiving week. I just ca'nt understand the opposition...well I can but none of you will admitt to it. -

Well you cant really make that claim unless you look at license and take numbers prior to crossbows and compare them. You wouldn't be accounting for the bowhunters swqitching over or tyhe ones that may be using both. -

Maybe I just lived in a sheltered area, but I don't remember hearing of any of this crap way back when I grew up.I know this will probably et some of the hold hands and sing songs folks upset ...but.remember when a cople of people had an issue they walked out behiind the school and settled it. Then it was done. You always were careful about bullying anyone because they had friends or an older brother and that would result in a butt whooping. You never harassed a girl ...see previous result. I just don't get what is happening.

I am looking for a CCW as well and this is exactly what I have been reading. With so many very small 9mm's on the market what is the benefit of the .380 with such a benefit in ballistics in the 9?

Fourseasons. I have hunted 300at in a weekend and not seen it all. Hat was kind of my point. What is that magic number that is the difference. Is it 500. Is it the 1000 or is it somewhere in between 1000 and the size of long island.

My 357 is ported and that has quite a bark. I have heard they make a velocity difference in rifles but wasnt sure if it held true with the short barrels.

New York Crossbow Hunters..
Culvercreek hunt club replied to sits in trees's topic in CrossBow Hunting
What ever they decide I will abide by and hunt as many seasons as I can. That week isn't going to increase the deer take and that is really what the crossbow inclusion is all about, just like some of the recent rule changes. I think the guys that really use the primative stuff should get thrown a bone like they used to. The traditional archer should get a head start ont he rest of archery equipment (compound and cross bw) and the flintlock/percussion w/ iron sights should get a jump the inlines. Personally the NZ has the best structure. bow followed by ML then gun -

Why do you think the change to a Saturday Opener hurt numbers? I like the opener bing on a Saturday. I could hunt it and not have to take a day off from work. Seemed like a good idea. Kind of like a good idea getting rid of the no Sunday hunting rule. That one basically double the season length for most wester NY hunters. Seems to me the ones that were pissed abut a Saturday Opener were the bowhunters that feel they "lost" a weekend of hunting. Same group that have their panites in a bunch about the inclusion of crossbows in Archery season. Not a pissing match but just an observation. -
Bolt Action shotguns?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to Buckwild96's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
My first multiple shot shotgun was a Mossberg .410 bolt gun (Model 273 I think). Still have it and love to take it out for bunnies. (throws a mean slug too) -
Bolt Action shotguns?

I used to have a Marlin 3 shot 12 ga goose gun. I think that cannon had a 36" barrel with an axtra full choke. It did kick like a mule at the range but I don't remember it being that bad shooting it at geese...lol -
Pistol becomes a Rifle?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to Moosemaple's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Monroe County told me they would put it on no problem. They have done them before and have a special listing that designates them as various calibers. I have heard other places require listing each caliber seperately.
