  1. My wife got me a family membership to Rochester Brooks gun club. can't wait to get to the range. ANd ---Hey Hey Paula---how much you wnat for the size 12 sneakers...lol. That was funny right there. Unless you meant it. If I ever did that I woulnd't dare go to sleep that night.
  2. Ny...it we want to follow that line of thinking and not intervene so we leave it as mother nature intended.....should we then let any wildfire be put out naturally too.
  3. Oh. and on the first question. That is kind of liek asking what car would you buy. I bet some guys have great recommendations if you had a $ range you want to spend.
  4. I really do't think there is a difference between the two today. I mean comparing the same quality of scope for both. When I think of a shotgun scope I guess you mean lower magnification and smaller objective? I find it odd that they coudl say the scope could be placed on a 416 Rigby but couldn't take the rap from a 12 guage....lol. I have a 3x9 on my shotgun. I know many here like lower magnification. I personally like the ability for higher if I feel i need it.
  5. Exctly, Doc. How many of us have actual brothers or sisters...or for that fact parents or kids. There can be knock down drag outs and all kinds of altercations but let anyone form the outside threaten one of mine and then the fun begins. I am betting most if not all of us are like that. we can disagree and get heated amongst ourselves but I bet if threatened they would be surprised how united the front would be.
  6. Have a safe and marry Christmas. keep it between the lines and enjoy your family and friends.
  7. This time of year i think of 3 thing for picking a spot. Food source...food souce and of course a good food source. Great advice here on the facing of the camera for wind and sun direction. I have learned both the hard way.
  8. Congrat, Dave. Great present for Christmas. Hope all are healthy and happy for the New year
  9. May keep it from happening. BO is an aid and not a 100% guarantee. I have seen hats undetected at certain angles and even vests . I hunt form one tree stand on a field edge. I wear a vest during gun and my hat is reversible to bo when I am walking. but in this stand I am not visible from the field because of the size of the tree I am in. Personally I like the big backstop...lol. I agree with the wearing of BO I think it makes good sense. but the same dopes that wear brown Carharts are the types that would us the logic "If I don't see BO the shot is safe"
  10. And he might get them. if the damage is occuring he may get them in numbers to control it. But, unless he has a nursery of orchard they will be doe only permits. I guess he has a right to
  11. No plots but I think the view that the chainsaws can't go in is wrong. Timber harvesting and selective clear cutting for wildlife habitat is not a bad thing as the tree huggers would have many believe. a mature forest can be much like a desert for alot of species.
  12. Equal and opposite reacion....you are scratching you head becasue your A$$ itches
  13. I really must be working for the wrong company...lol
  14. Unfortunately many of the regulation changes ARE based on opinions of the special interest groups. Not to turn this into an AR thing but DEC has openly said their moves in those areas are based on opinions with no benefit other than social. So a opinion against your view could and should be viewed as a move against your position. It can happen and has. I think the key is to do it in a civil way.
  15. Not a fan of FMJ in hunting situations. Why the choice for you?
  16. A pretty large portion of the state does not have doe permits. I think a good number of WMU's are low issue numbers too. I think that could weigh into their views
  17. even the old front stuffers don't need to be fired. pull the bullet....They even make fairly cheap contraptions that use CO2 to blow the round out.
  18. and one trigger to get used to. Gun show in January...lol
  19. "Right now, it looks like this was an accidental shooting," said Zimmerly. "That's the way you clean a muzzle loader." BULL $HIT!!. push it out or use a bullet puller there is no excuse for firing a bullet into the air to unload a ML. That is negligent and should be prosecuted as criminally negligent homicide if it is proven the guy did this. To call this an accident is irresponsible too. I get so frustrated with people getting a free pass on their poor choices and actions.
  20. From our party we had better than our average sightings and opportunities in 7R. The guys just can't shoot straight...lol. In 5H we saw more bucks and does than usual during the early ML and first couple seeks of Rifle. Then it kind of dried up. I attribute that to pressure. In 8H...well. pardon the french but we got screwed on the property this year. Standing corn until 2 weeks ago in adjacent land we can't hunt. Our soybeans got plowed as soon as they were harvested but the property to the north that had beans didn't. To the east of the property is about 300 acres of golden rod and there was no snow to knock it down. Readers digest version. bedding to feed wasnt through our area during gun. Bow we had excellent buck sightings and many doe. but we had beans then. There was a ton of shooting on adjacent property and we did take a few that got pushed through our funnel. just not the norm that we see.
  21. I will agree that there are a pile of break actions out there. Ad most are much less money than the Encore. If you just want a ML you may want to consider the others. My father and Cousin have a Tradition and they are shooting sons of guns. But if you want versitility and a "platform" for other uses I think the encore is the ay to go.
  22. So really it it limiting everyone while providing a benefit to some...just sayin'
  23. Interesting post, Doc. Do you think that any buck that makes the cut for a book measurement in an area that is AR should have an asterix next to it. I mean after all it shouldn't really be compared to a deer that made the cut under the old non-subsidised system..lol
  24. It blows my mind when I had hunting dogs. My springers never went the wrong way on a pheasant he was trailing. How could he know when he cut the trail? I guess just that small difference in age or strenght is "visible" to them
  25. Oh suck it up and drop the cash on the pro hunter...lol. I have the encore and got it just before the speed breech came out. I think the featue is nice but not a big deal if you don't have it. OK so it takes me a minute to take mine out of the gun to clean it vs 10 seconds. I personally like a heavier gun. If I was taking it up in the Rockies I would have to get something different but carrying mine all day with the heavy laminated wood thumbhole stock is not a problem for my NY hunting. And the heavy weight is pleasure to shoot. The nice thing about the Encore is that fact you can do anything with it. rifle/shotgun/pistol. I think CVA had one that you could get barrels for but I don't think there was the aftermarket support that the Encore has. I like the Stainless.and LOVE the trigger on mine. I have been toying with the idea of sending my encore back to get the swing hammer installed. I shoot a scope and I had to use an aftermarket hammer extension to get a solid gloved hand hook up in the hammer. The area between the bottom of the scope and topp of hammer is tight in the straight alignment You were gonna spend that on the Browning anyway. The Charles Daily will do what ever you need a shotgun for. just pull the trigger, so to speak.
