  1. Thank you. I was lucky I landed on my side and my shoulder took much of the impact. My head did snap to the ground once I hit it.
  2. So as you know fell about 10' this year coming down out of my stand. I was lucky and was just a bit sore for a few days. I took a walk today on my property and looked at a few of the stands that are in place. There are hazards at the bottom of these tree stands that need to be removed. There are a couple of visible rocks that should come out. At one tree stand small trees were cut leaving a few a couple feet off the ground. They need to go. Same for any logs that are on the ground. All these things could of made a big difference in my outcome if I were to land on one. This is a priority this year for sure. Ok I'm done. lol
  3. Also on the cards were some mature doe and a lot of small ones. That really small buck is something!
  4. Awesome, she looks so excited. Best hunting memories taking a kid hunting. My girls hunt and I've mentored a few boys. You are going to have a great time!
  5. I did some work with my Brother-inlaw yesterday. I was the main contact when Bob handled all the leases for Cotton Hanlon. I turned it over to my brother-inlaw a few years ago to do all contacts and signing. Bob retired and was replaced. Even with this transition we haven't had any problems with the new people. Sorry it didn't work out, for us its been great.
  6. Check in with Cotton Hanlon. We have a 75 acre lease in Schuyler county and are very happy with it. New leases March 1st! https://www.cottonhanlon.com/hunting-leases
  7. About 5 years ago I bought my neighbors property. 11 acres and trailer. The Husband had died and she could not take care of the place. I helped for years and knew we would come up with a plan when the time was right. So I bought it and she came back with her son and took all the things that meant the most to them. So I was left with a tailer that was pretty much full with all kinds of stuff. Without getting into great detail these ended up in my basement. I cleaned out the basement today and found them and brought them up to my family room. I just love them. Just two trays but as I look on line John Macleod was quite the artist. They look great where they are. I feel fortunate to have them!
  8. I have to say after spending so much time in the woods this year those crows have some unique vocalization. So many different cool sounds. Too many of them have at it boys! lol
  9. They canceled the install today because of the weather. Might give me a chance to paint it before they come next week.
  10. I stored my old wood stove on my porch when it was replaced. It is getting installed in the barn tomorrow. I noticed some rust on the finish. Any suggestions on how to fix it? Typical flat black finish. Thanks FL
  11. Yes a young bear looks a bit too young to be on its own. I think the camera missed picts of Mama. Cubs stay with Mom for 2 years. JMO, it could be on its own for some reason, never know.
  12. I don't want to equate scopes to lighting fixtures but here it goes. I'm changing out the fixtures in my house and in the barn starting from scratch. So many venders out there mostly all Chinese companies. I have sent back a few fixtures that were pure junk. I found an American co called Steele lighting. Fixtures are great. It used to be easy and you would get a good product. Getting back to scopes I need one for the Muzzy and my 35. Don't want to break the bank. Suggestions?
  13. So you say have a couple of special animals that will live their life on your farm and also have a few you sell to buy meat. That could work, thanks!
  14. I have the perfect setup to get a few cows but I'm scared to death I wouldn't be able to send them to the Processor when the time comes.
  15. This spot your looking at has given me so much memories from this season. It seems its just a magnet for so much rutting activity. This is in the middle of the woods kind of a secret place for the deer. Golden Rod, Pine trees green grass it has it all. Surrounding it is hardwoods and brush. I'm very lucky to own this land and take care of it. We created it for them, they love it!!
  16. Nothing for me tonight. Season ended quietly with a few shots here and there. I did see the gut pile from my doe last week just a few specs of stomach mulch. Who the hell eats the digested food? Crows probably my guess.
  17. It all makes sense. Good info right there thanks.
  18. Talking about blood trails.....that Doe I shot the other day was hit in the neck. It got the jugular for sure. Ran 30 yards and left a spraying blood trail. Where the deer died looked like a brutal crime scene. Worst I have ever seen. Snow completely covered in a circle around the deer. I wound't even post the picture its that bad! lol
  19. I know what blowing is. You say "The non stop blowing while they try to scent me" I always thought blowing (almost always from Mature Does) was a warning for all deer that danger was in the woods. Is blowing a method they use to try to scent something?
  20. It is very nice out. I'm going to take advantage of the warm weather and take down the Holiday lights and clean out my shed. I'll hunt this afternoon. Good luck all.
