  1. I get what your saying but if holes clogged with guts most of blood from mouth. I don't know. Got to give it one more try. Yeah what a way to go, three days of season left and your jaw shot off. Happy Holiday hunt!
  2. So I head out at 2:15 to hunt our lease property. My neighbor next door texts me saying another neighbor shot a nice buck and is down at the swamp (next door neighbor property) looking for it. I offered my help but didn't hear back. I'm walking a logging road much higher up than the swamp. I look to my left and see a pool blood and spray. I figure out which way the deer was going and follow. Easy tracking in the snow but just drips here and there but large amounts when it stopped. I would say I tracked this deer 200-300 yards. Found 5 good areas of blood thinking the animal was dead just ahead. I got to a point almost in the same area my gut shot Doe died and saw a deer take off and then another one behind it hunched up tail tucked in walking. I continued tracking and it led me to where this deer was. Found a bit more blood but nothing else. Spent another hour poking around in the dark then called it. My next door neighbor calls me and says the deer I was tracking may of been the buck they shot. They said they tracked it until it got to my property and gave up because they didn't have my number. Said it was a nice buck and they shot it in the jaw. (WTF) First off they could of got my number from my neighbor. Second shooting a nice buck in the head, doesn't add up. Third the deer I saw that was injured was a big Doe or Spike. I spent 4 hrs looking for someone else's mistake. My guess is they shot a Doe. 3 pictures of areas where deer stopped. Honestly I can't sit back and not give it another try in the morning. I think the deer is shot in jaw or guts (I think guts) and she can't be far from where I ended it. I'll be looking at google maps to aid in the search. It helped twice this year.
  3. I just had some smoked hind quarters from log city. Man was it good. Neighbor had it done and it sure was worth it. Taking a 1/2 hour power nap then going for a walk in the woods. Would like to see a few tonight. Don't plan on shooting would just like to watch. GL guys.
  4. Just saw the video. They will all be fired along with the other guys in the room watching. I appreciate what they do and it's a hard job. You can't take things into your own hands. Just watched "lioness" on Par plus. The scene when they beat up the undercover agent reminded me of this. These guys went Hollywood for real.
  5. Mom and Triplets are good to go as of Christmas! Pretty surprised they are intact, a good Mom.
  6. Didn't see a deer tonight. They are hitting the corns hard. I hunted over trhem but nothing showed. BIL shot a nice Doe at his place in 8S.
  7. Stuffed Cabbage. Haven't had that since my Mom passed. They (Mom and Grandmother) had a great polish recipe. Enjoy it and have an extra one for me!
  8. I'm with you on this. State just wants more deer killed. I'll do more walking and marking trails and stuff. It will be nice to be out there and there probably is a 99% chance I don't pull the trigger.
  9. off topic but my brother said to check out the kidneys on your deer if covered with fat food is plentiful.
  10. To all my friends here a very Merry Christmas!
  11. I'm on Long Island until Thursday. Probably hunt Friday through the end which I think is Tuesday? Weather looks great but its going to take a big racked buck for me to pull the trigger. Like you Al I have enough meat in the freezer in fact my whole group does. It will be just nice to be out there and maybe I'll loosen the straps on the stands?
  12. The 370 and 385 package goes for $299. Scope, quiver and bolts included. You have a crank which is nice. Depends how old it is. Here is my issue. With a brand new one under $300 I wouldn't pay more than $150-200 for a used one. You do have some upgrades which is nice and will help with price. JMO, hope you get what you expect! I'll take a stab and say if its under two years old and in great condition $220.
  13. Brother lives in Cortland I'll give him a shout.
  14. Oh forgot to say my Brothers Grandson at 14 got his first buck! It's pretty funny but we have one stand where we send the new hunters to. They always seem to connect! Thats him years ago with Stepdad. Now first deer at the box!
  15. Loved that show. The older guy and wife still travel to shows and such to talk about it. Came down to money that cancelled the show. Got too expensive to have crews out ther filming, that is what I read.
  16. Pulled the card today. Again crows, Eagle, Turkey Vulture and some hawks day time. Have a big Yote, Two fox and a skunk at night. They make short order of things. Something ate the ear off!
  17. We actually shot 10 this year. The most ever. 8 bucks 2 doe. I found this season to be a weird one. Had three shooters on camera and missed the biggest twice with bow. After Oct 8th I only saw 1 other shooter in the woods. Cameras went silent also until the end of season we picked up 1 big one. Did learn a lot about the property we leased across the road and food plots paid off for sure. Will be expanding plots next year. There sure are plenty of deer out there. Combined acreage of my property and neighbors is about 1500 acres. Seriously only single digits on Doe harvest. Couple of the big pieces get hunted by 1 or 2 people usually just first week. Another piece most hunter are out of state and only stay for the first 4 days and they look for bone. I don't mind taking 10 deer between 4 families with all that going on.
  18. I think your mindset has to slow way down and priorities take hold. Slow and easy.
  19. Trap goes in after Christmas. Has been back a few times. Nice big Coywolf.
  20. Of course all my cameras had deer all over them this morning.
  21. Pretty amazing the comeback these birds have made. From my trail camera the crows do most of the eating. They even go inside the carcass.
  22. I went bust this afternoon. May Holiday hunt over in 8S for a Doe we shall see.
  23. Heck of a story glad you did your job! Last year I shot a 10 point 2 weeks after season started. Came in with a Doe shot him at 30 yards. Same thing but my buck had his back lower leg shot off. It was dangling, he was walking on bone. I don't know what people think when taking shots like that. Of course their not aiming for that but if that is what was hit don't shoot.
