I spoke to a real estate agent today about a piece of property, and he really didn't sound very knowledgeable or interested when asked him about hunting on the parcel. He told me there was no "real woods", "just a lot of brush between cornfields", and the deer stay else where in "the bigger woods". I might have to go do a drive by when I see my daughter next week. LOL! Oh....and Belo....the 300K for 10 acres scares me but the "shack" part might be a step up from my tent.

JFB, Thanks for the info and invite. I used to be an avid fisherman, everything from bass, pike, bullheads all night by a fire, and every trout stream for miles. Trout for me with either dug worms or my favorite, a small silver phoebe.

Wow what a nice fish! What is it about 22 or 24 inches? My hats off to you fishing in this cold weather. Well maybe as cold as it is I better keep my hat on. LOL! If I moved that way I would have to sell my place here and buy a house with a little land. I was thinking maybe something with 25 or so acres in a rural area around Rochester.

Hey folks! I was just wondering if anyone here could give me some input about hunting around Rochester, or fishing in the Genesee river. My wife wants to move out towards Chili, Henrietta, or Webster, to be near my daughter and son in law. I have been offered a job interview, which could make the move a real option, if we chose to act on it. Problem here is, I have it real good right now in the hunting department and am not keen on giving that up. It would be great to be closer to my daughter though because we are a close family and want to keep it that way when grand children come along. Any info on deer, rabbit hunting out that way or fishing the Genesee would be appreciated. Thank you

My wife and I were just on our way into Webster to visit my daughter, when she called frightened about the shooter on the loose. Living only a couple miles away, listening to the sirens, she was terrified. And to be honest, so were we, on our now race to get to her house. My heart and prayers to the families of all those touched by the selfish, thoughtless actions of yet one more mad man. How very sad!

I used to try to hunt grouse but have always been miserable at it. I have often said if a deer could jump high enough into the air I would never be able to fill a tag. LOL! There have always been a few on my property but the population is way up this year for some reason. I watched three females walking around one day that were followed by a very excited male. He was puffing up, fanned out, and trying desperately to impress them as they just walked along pecking at the ground. I have also seen a few "timber doodles".Those silly things will hunker down and let you almost step on them before they take off sometimes.

A sure fire way to defeat your enemy........make him your friend. I would send him a Christmas card and write it in, "I'm sorry for the misunderstanding this past deer season and hope we can be good neighbors again. Please except my best wishes for a Merry Christmas to you and your family.",and sign your name. If that does not fix things there is little hope, and at least you were the bigger person. Peace

wow...........I just got how from work and thought I would see how everybody did hunting today but checked this thread first............what a feeding frenzy. I don't know what tired me out more, reading this stuff from page eight through sixteen, or 12 hours on the unit. Anyway, nyantler thank you for your comment, " starts strangling people with piano wire... I would hate to never be able to hear a piano again". That made me laugh for the first time today! It looked like everyone started to tire out a little by the end and there were even a few Merry Christmas wishes tossed in which was a nice switch. There is way too much ugliness in the world as we have all seen, and I think everyone has been rocked by this latest tragedy. It was sick, senseless and the actions of a person who was clearly unable to feel empathy for others. It is too easy to harm others when you don't see them as people. My fear is that a similar phenomenon occurs on these forums, albeit to (thankfully) a lesser degree, where you only see words on a board that ignite emotions, and not a person. Anyway, I guess I'll have to wait till tomorrow to read how everyone did hunting today. LOL! Oh........and I before I go..did I read it right......somebody here has a problem with "hillbillies"...say it ain't so....LOL! Peace

While emotions are running high, it does not help the situation to toss about names like crazies, whacko, crack pot, nut job, etc., because it only adds to the stigma that prevents people from coming forward or seeking help when they need it. And, do you really know of any doctors that walk the street collecting kids to feed drugs to? How many parents run to doctors for a pill to control their kid when they say "I can't control little Johnny or Suzy"? Rather than demonize doctors how about taking a hard, honest, look at some of the parents, or lack thereof, out there. There is always the potential for a biological/physical explanation, but there is also the psychological and social etiology. Sometimes medications are absolutely necessary, other times it's therapy, very frequently it's a combination of both, and sometimes it is neither. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, it's a lot more complicated than that. Again, I send my prayers, and now I will remain silent.

It is a very complicated situation. Especially when the statistics show one out of every five people suffers from a diagnosable mental illness in this country. That does not mean to say that they are actively being treated or that they have even been diagnosed. How about each one of those officers in that school witnessing up close and personal this tragedy. Depression, anxiety, PTSD are all possible and actually likely. That does not mean each officer who may become ill is now dangerous, or should lose his job, or right to own and carry a firearm. Like I said, it's a lot more complicated.

What a sad, sad , sad day. Prayers to all the families suffering through this horrific experience. The quick knee jerk reaction will be to put all the focus on "guns". While there really does need to be open, honest discussion about firearms between those on all sides, the real discussion needs to be about the disgusting state of our mental health system.

Had some company to hunt with for the final afternoon. So an hour ago I put my nephew in one of my stands, my brother in law in one of my ground blinds, and my buddy in my patio chair in the scrub apples. I settled into my old stand by to watch the fields. My buddy slowly walks to his spot and across the field comes a tall spike buck, not a minute behind from the same spot comes running a big rack buck. They're heading for my nephew. I hope his eyes are open. Lol!

Brother in law is bummed. He just texted me in a panic what to do. First deer he has had by him since opening day and muzzle loader misfired. Big doe at ten yards and pop but no bang. Said she just trotted away, stopped and looked at him them just walked off.

Also overlooking bedding area today. Tucked in and sleepy! What better place for me to fall asleep in my stand. Lol

I heard the same thing here in 7M, a couple times during the season. I could not believe my ears. It did sound like a police shootout.........no exaggeration!
