  1. Ran down to Cattaraugus creek after work today and landed two nice steelies. Both from the lake side using silver and blue Little Cleos. The smoker will be full tommorow !
  2. I have fished on both the Kingfisher and the Yankee Troller and been happy with both boats and captains. We did get skunked once , but it's fishing not catching so what can you do.
  3. Coat checker, Dishwasher x 2 yrs, USMC x 7 yrs, Perishables warehouse selector x 1 yr, Comm College student x 2 yrs, Respiratory Therapist ( staff and management in hospitals and homecare) x 27 yrs. Currently working for the VA and love it ! Oh, fired x 1 , best thing that ever happened to me !
  4. Bought a Marlin 336 SS in 30-30 when rifle opened up in WNY. Took a doe with it fist time out. I prefer the lever to bolt action due to being left handed.
  5. I have been following Pythons on Gunbroker. I would say , at a minimum, your friend could get 1000.00 over his purchase price, and probably more based on description.
  6. Check out the NY State Land interactive Mapper (SLIM). Gives you aerial as well as topo and road map views of all NYS public land.
  7. Went to a Ebola preparedness meeting at the hospital I work at today. Seems like the space suits those nurses were wearing may have been the problem. Not an equipment failure, but a training failure. Best guess now is that the nurses , while in the process of removing the "suit" contaminated themselfs. The suits were unfamiliar garb, with a definite process requiring aprox 15 min to don or doff. There should have been training, practice and oversight before and during use of this gear.
  8. I was convinced I wanted a Ruger Mk 3 hunter, until I handled one, just didn't feel right for me. Picked up a Browning Buckmark and loved it. I have put about 250 rds of Winchester thru it with no failures.
  9. What do you think ? I have to say I don't know enough about his politics to make an informed decision. I do think that between his name and his money he would be a strong candidate. http://www.buffalonews.com/city-region/politics/trump-serious-about-possible-run-for-governor-20140110
  10. I put the outdoor Christmas lights on one last time just to make it easy to find the house on the way home from the gas station and pizza place. Its a white out in Hamburg right now.
  11. I can remember my father bringing home "blind robins" as a New Years eve snack. I had to Google them to find out what they were. Salted herring. I'll stick with steak and shrimp.
  12. Darn it, solved in a page and a half !?, I was hoping for days of reading on this one !

    Gloves

I use old flip back style mittens. They have glove fingers inside the mitten shell, and the trigger fingers and thumbs have slits for the digit to stick out of for easy use. I need to replace them as they are very worn and ratty. I rarely use them, but they are great for when it's really cold out.
  14. Well it took close to 30 years of hunting, but I finally managed to break a gun. While crossing over a fallen tree (should have gone around) I placed a foot between two limbs. I actually thought to myself at this point " this is a good way to break a leg". While lifting my other leg over the limb I lost my balance and fell. After checking myself over to find no injuries,I found the muzzle of my Marlin 336 plugged with mud and snow. I unloaded the gun, and after triple checking to be sure the gun was unloaded, cleared the blockage. A further inspection revealed that the butt stock now could wobble from side to side where it met the reciever. I pulled the stock off today and found that a small wooden ear at the forward end of the stock had cracked off. I don't believa a glue job would hold up, so I'll be ordering a replacement after Christmas. All in all I count myself lucky to only have a bruised hip, and ego, and a repair bill under a hundred bucks.
  15. I got a new battery for my car. Came out for lunch and found the old one had chosen that mornining to die.
  16. Wake up call for 0400, leave house (provided son has his poop in a group) 0430, arrive state land 0515 ish, hopefully setteled into an unoccupied spot 0530-0545. This is the only problem with opening week on stsate land. My vacation is the last week of gun season and I'll head into the woods at around 0700, and won't see a soul.
  17. I'm excited about Saturdays opener, my 23 year old is REALLY excited. The only thing I don't look forward to is the orange army on the state land. We plan to start walking in at 0530 ish, I'm hoping we can find a spot not allready occupied ! My vacation is the last week of gun season and I'll have the whole 1000 + acres to myself, or at least share it with a minimal number of other hunters.
  18. The woman who reported this does not seem to be pushing an anti hunting agenda. She actually speaks well of hunters. I'm certian the story will be spun by the media into a anti hunting story.
  19. would also need braces along sides to keep from rocking
  20. Looks decayed, that or it's elephant mating season
  21. The safety angle makes sense. I also considred the economics of two sets of hunting clothes, perhaps a gun hunter as well who figures the orange can do double duty. I'm not trying to knock the guy, I just found it curious thats all.
  22. On a drive from Buffalo to Dansville this weekend I noticed a person in a tree stand. I assume this person was bow hunting for deer (why else would you be up in a tree stand, at 9:00 am this time of year?) The reason I was able to notice this person, as I was doing highway speeds on the 90, was they were dressed in blaze orange. As I do not bow hunt I found this unusual as the pics I see of bow hunters allways have them in camo. Is this as odd as I think it is , or do some of you bow hunters wear orange while bow hunting ?
  23. Interesting, I drove from Buffalo to Dansville on Sat. I took 90 to 390 on the way there and saw no roadkill at all. Trip home was 436 to 39 to 219 and saw one deer hit on the road.
  24. I just broke the 100 post mark and lost the "Newbie " tag.

    Broken leg

Red, If they did'nt order any pain meds please check with your sons doctor and let him / her know about the pain. There has been a real effort made to treat pain over the last few years. There's no need for that kind of suffering.
