  1. Saw a scrape re-opened yesterday in a primary location. We hit the area in the afternoon, with no luck. I've found 3 separate primary scrapes in this location thus far.

    Fog

Nothing in the woods, but saw in excess of 50+ does along the rod in a 3 mile strip.
  3. Steve, is it possible for a deer to turn it's head into it's own body? I've seen deer turn their head to where their heart and lung area would be. So is it hard to imagine that IF the missing jaw was from a bullet (not saying it was) that it could very well be from a miss to the lungs instead? But i understand it's just easier to assume everyone else is a bad marksman and can't shoot a 3" target from 200 yards.
  4. What bothers me a lot is that people on here always talks about losing deer and making bad shots and gut shooting deer that makes for a long or impossible recovery. Most of the time, the hunter is aiming for the lungs. Thus far, I've never heard of anyone aiming at the head and losing an injured deer.
  5. What I got from it is if you have the confidence, take it. Of course a scope and rifle is assumed.
  6. Need to know more on your bow before picking arrows I think. Also, most hunters prefer blaze vanes over feather fletchings for speed.
  7. Probably won't be able to get out tonight then unless it's real late.
  8. Because everyone else's stories are fairy tales since we have nothing better to do but BS on this forum.
  9. Great article. It kind of saddens me to see how many hunters lack the confidence and marksmanship to attempt a headshot when presented under conditions that would favor it.
  10. Just like outsourcing. We Americans are great at doing that.
  11. Heart shot = slower more painful death. Headshot = instant death. Easy choice ain't it? Totally different for bow though, but anyone capable should consider all options.
  12. Seen one enter the nostril and exit the rear jaw. Pretty sure the softpoint didn't fully expand yet either.
  13. That's really weird, a 30-06 should blast right through the head, it got lodged in there?
  14. Was out today trying to connect or educate myself with finding signs. Most of the scrapes no longer look fresh to me, as I went around and put some leaves in them to make sure if it gets refreshed, I'd know. I was able to find a rub that looked fresh, but am not sure. I'm seeing droppings that also look fresh, and an area that looks like multiple deer are in the area with different types of droppings. Some round and others long. Stepped on some brown ones too, which is weird because I've only seen black. This thing had lots of "hay" in the brown. I was told by another hunter there that around 3:30, a buck ran 2 does across the street into the hunting area. I guess they are still chasing.
  15. Shot the 770, and it's a lot of kick for my taste.
  16. Would this fit in a flat rate box? These may fit my wife, she's petite. If so, I'd bite!
  17. I'm only going by the rules. Weather it's enforced or if you choose to follow them is something else. I've seen hunters with blaze vests and hunters in full camo in the bow only areas.
  18. Hey Belo, did you hear about the shooting in NYC sometime ago? You know, the one where the cops shot 8 bystanders by accident trying to shoot one gunman? Think they were trained to go for the chest? The way I see it, cops are by far the best of marksman, by far. Aim small, miss small.
  19. During hunting season, any hunting areas that you need to cross will require blaze orange in the form of a vest, hat, or jacket. Area 1 at Kensico is an example.
  20. You should care because one is a city agency and the other is a state agency. One operates according to state laws and the other a more restrictive city law. For example, blaze orange is required in some fishing areas. Think you'll care when you receive a ticket for something along those lines.
  21. Usually the guys that check Kensico is not DEC, but DEP. I've been checked once. I've been checked by DEC once fishing in the Catskills and once while hunting. I've also been checked by Forest Ranger several times in one day.
  22. For the record, never had a bad run-in with ECO. All very polite and stand-up people.
