  1. Anyone with a legal license can hunt with a bow in regular season.
  2. There are bow only areas outside of 3S and 1C. In these 2 WMU, you can use your regular season buck tag as either sex for the duration of the entire seasons. In areas where specific locations within a WMU is bowhunting only like some parts of Sterling Forest, you'll need to use a DMP to harvest a doe. When regular gun starts, this area remains bow only.
  3. How do you know these folks are from NYC?
  4. I've heard this before, but how can one tell the difference between a primary scrape from those at the perimeter? And how does one hunt the primary and when? How far is the perimeter from the primary usually?
  5. I'd lock the stand just in case.
  6. Fenced in does not guarantee 100% success.
  7. Grey, I'm not going to go into the legality of the implement used here, just trying to help by answering questions. The 2 birds that you recovered, you need to examine them to find the point of impact. If these birds are perched high, and you shot the neck, they will fly then die. I can think of many scenarios where 8 pumps will not kill when 6 would. Matter of fact, give me a ring, I'll PM you my number if you lost it.
  8. I wish I had a buck fever story to tell. Unfortunately, haven't got one yet.
  9. Phase, you should know better than let anyone else set up your stuff. Shame on you! I don't trust anyone to set up my guns or bow now. I loktite where I should when others don't bother. Saves a lot of grief later on.
  10. Grey, I used to use .177 exclusively for small game, and have taken sparrows, starlings, pigeons, red squirrels, grey squirrels, as well as raccoon. The thing about bird hunting is that their kill zone is quite small. Aim for the base of their wings and you'll hit the lungs. Profile double lung is the best, but a frontal shot from the ground up is also great. Don't bother for the head, as birds move their heads way too fast. I can't recall ever having to follow up a starling with my .177. Speed of my pellets is 900 fps shooting domes, exits every time.
  11. Better than me. I see a buttload of signs like I've never seen before, and only run into one deer today that hightailed out of there only for me to see a flag bouncing away. Worst part is, I don't know how old the rubs and scrapes are, for all I know, all the bucks have been taken already.
  12. Think the bird was feeding the deer. You happened to get in the way.
  13. Shooting a shotgun using the bead is like shooting a bow instinctively, I suck at both.
  14. Pretty sure they have not met one another let alone have each others phone numbers.
  15. Or you might just shoot the extra pellet and powder out the muzzle with no I'll effects. Does anyone know for sure?
  16. This is true. A lot of times the sporting section is covered by those from electronics. Usually its no big deal, but trying to get a key for ammo or a license sale is tough and usually requires a long wait.
  17. Had a rooster in a few houses behind us and would crow frigging early and I sure as hell wanted to shoot it if I knew where it was! Think someone got to him before me, haven't heard him in a few months now. I don't believe hens make too much noise, had one in the house for a few days. Never really knew it was even there until she started smelling. Laid and egg every day.
  18. I would assume that the exit hole is usually on the other side of the entry he as well? Same could probably Bessie about how the deer falls, exit hole against the ground. All this isn't some kind of coincidence or some miracle. It's all backed up by science and physics. The bullet going through the body will expand and cause the deer to drop in the same the bullet travels. Unless the deer is able to run or do backflips, it's most likely going to be entry hole facing up and tongue facing down.
  19. Chef, my buddy and I was at public land in 3S, saw a couple for and was also out of range. Walking in the woods with all the dry leaves is tough.
