  1. Grey, assuming that the gun is zero'd for 30 yards and the scope is 2.5 inches above the barrel, here's the results. Basically, the 7.9 grain Crosman pellet will travel in excess of 100 yards at an elevation of 24 inches in a kneeling position. At 3 ft/lbs of energy, it'll be like getting hit with a small rock. Keep in mind that there are other factors to the pellet such as ballistic coefficient and of course the speed at which it travels. These are all rough estimates, as the actual BC varies from within the same pellet traveling at different speeds. Hope this helps.
  2. Excellent story and great photos. Nice camera!
  3. You definitely deserve this Buck Fletch. Might have something to do with the good karma you sent out on the 5th, 2 days prior to this harvest.
  4. It's a little different when a fawn is on their own vs still with mom, although they may be the same exact age. it's not about if they can survive on their own without mom or not, it's about how the individual feels about watching the little guy witness mon getting shot.
  5. Nice story and nice harvest. Even though the shots were not ideal, you made an effort to try to find the wounded deer. Sounds like more range time is in order. Keep it up!
  6. I don't really see this as a win-win at all. Threads like these just turn off a lot of new hunters from posting and lower hunter participation in general. Hunter encouragement is what need, not bashing of deer that's down. Truth of the matter is, you can't police ethics. You can only encourage it. And by the looks of the way some of the folks here "encourage", I personally wouldn't share anything but perfect shots on this forum. Sounds a like a lose-lose to me.
  7. Welcome! Special firearms in January is a blast I heard.
  8. I'd probably let it go. It's one thing to shoot the fawn, but another to have it lose mom and suffer.
  9. I wasn't going to say anything or add to this thread, but seeing how so many of you experienced and elite hunters are bashing on the guy, I can't help but think you guys must have been born hunters, every shot was perfectly DRT shots and the deer never even twitched. How about all those "wrong site pin" missed shots that's out there, why not bash on those guys? Heck, some of those guys are posting right here I bet. Those shots could easily could have turned out MUCH worse than this. Was a new thread created for those instances? Most of "elite" hunters are so full of yourselves it's unbelievable. Instead of encouraging ethical shots and finding out the truth, most of you are quick to crucify. Really a sad sight to see amongst fellow hunters. Who's to say he was not aiming for the jugs? Hunter's Ed taught us that there is more than one kill zone, and as stated already, the jugs is a real fast and painless way to drop a deer. The arrow through the lip could very well be the deer jumping, can any of you nay Sayers be sure he was aiming for the head? Bottom line is, he may not deserve praise for the shot, but he shouldn't be crucified for it either.

    eel fishing

Damn, appreciate you coming on here even without power. Hope things return to normal soon, but the south shore will forever be changed from Sandy. I'm pretty sure I'm just not there enough and not putting in my time. It's hard when I find myself doing tons of research online, foundling there on the right tides and staying out there overnight at times when I could swing it and still catch nothing. I can't remember the last time I brought home a legal sized saltwater fish for the family. With the economy the way it is, I've started fishing closer to home in my freshwater haunt. Been slamming the bass, perch, and a couple lake trout. Trying to target table fare species now, so crappies and trout is on the top of the list along with stripers and blackfish.
  11. Imposing mandatory anything is bad for business I think. A smart gas station may do so in the future to continue to increase cash flow, but I don't see a mandatory generator is any different from mandatory safety harness or mandatory BO etc.
  12. Don't know about you guys, but I'm a MEAT hunter. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
  13. Nice, is that a fox? Is the broadhead still usable after a shot like that?
  14. Worth it to see some old friends.
  15. Yeh? But does it taste the same?
  16. May have even got a freezer full of meat for the damage too!
  17. Cool bubba. Buddy lives there, and has invited me to visit. Was looking into doing a visit one of these days, would be awesome to hunt as well, as it's a good 6 hr drive for me.
  18. What if I really like deer, and can't buy it from anywhere, I hear it's illegal to buy/sell?
  19. It might very well be just a coating, hence the term jacket.
  20. I guess you folks are take this arrow repair pretty seriously, I'll have to reconsider using it. My draw is 26, and noticed that at 25, the arrow rests right in front of the rest. I guess I'll just have to admire this arrow instead of actually using it. Thanks for the input from everyone.
  21. Not surprised it didn't happen sooner. Guys are selling 5 gallons at a time for $100 each on the streets of Queens.
