1 grain will make no difference. The 7mm-08 is an outstanding deer round. find a load that shoots good out of your rifle and you're all set.
-
The Hornady American White tail is very good ammo. Your friend is very wrong. Any 140 ish grain hunting ammo, that groups well out of a 7mm-08 will be a deer slayer. I use 140grain Plane Jane 140 grn Core Lokts and they lay deer out . If I could find 141 grainers the deer would probably just kill themselves…LOL!!!

Contact the pistol license office. Some Counties are different from others, but if there is a family member, who has a permit, that person may be able to have the guns transferred to them, with a death certificate and the woman's permit. Then that person can transfer the guns to your friend when he gets his permit. It is done in Onondaga Co. but like I said, some Counties are different. Giving the guns to the Police should be a last resort. -
Think he'll leave the collar on when he mounts the head??

Oh yeah!!! I have a brand new 16' ladder stand, in the garage, that I got dirt cheap after last season. As soon as this heat wave breaks, its getting unboxed. -
I use to hunt them quite a bit. My buddy always had a beagle. Often the dog(s) will get on a rabbit and the bunny will stay in front of the dog enough to think its safe. the rabbits almost always circle and return to the area of the original jump point, often stopping to rest because they think the dog is still far enough away. This offers good shots. My buddy,s father, old Italian guy who is now gone, would always use a bolt action .22 and go for head shots on the ones that thought they were out of danger. He did well. He would always yell at us for using shotguns on rabbits. A year or so before the guy died we were at a party at my friends house. He served up some BBQ rabbit. It was great. The old man got a bite of bird shot and went off on my friend. I don't understand Italian 100% but I know enough. "Those f'ing shot guns for a little rabbit"..or something like that..LOL. I miss it.

Yup….I have 2 cop friends who have K9' Police dogs (German Shepherds ). The dogs live with the cops. Besides police work, these dogs are amazingly smart. They take police commands in German. But my friends also have them trained in English for Home. Unreal..One friend has a 2 Mo. old baby. His dog is a giant puppy who will play with me all day. But if he goes into business mode, you're screwed. If the dog is told "Watch the baby"… the dog would go from fetching a ball and playing with you to seriously kicking your ass if you get too close to the crib. Dogs amaze me

I have always had labs….very smart dogs, but my brother has always had shepherds. They were/are scary smart. He has had three and he would talk to them like they were people and they would do what he said. "close the door….. close the gate...Get the paper….find my shoes…. a bunch of other stuff.

When do you know you have coyote problem?
ants replied to GR HUNTER's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
In years past, two of my hunting areas, which are about 200 miles apart, became over run with coyotes. Some Deer but especially turkey numbers fell big time. Turkey sightings became pretty much a rarity. We would shoot coyotes when ever we saw them. Both land owners let in trappers, to deal with the yotes, and after a few years the numbers of deer and turkey went right back up. If their numbers are high and they are effecting game animal numbers I hate them. If their numbers are low and they just do their thing..I don't care as much. Make sense?? -
Years ago I watched my father in law feed deer Friehoffers chocolate chip cookies, right out his had. One buck actually took a cookie that my FIL was holding between his teeth..The deer (5 or six of them) started getting pushy. The old man had to leave some cookies on the ground and make a run for it.

Deer #1 Turkey#2 ( a very close #2)

If you're not using a dog, then definitely go with a shotgun over a .22. As a kid I had good luck, kicking out rabbits , by stomping through brush piles and thick stuff on the edge of wet areas. Ponds or swampy areas.

looks like a nice deer to me….AR's might dictate that you can't shoot him..but he looks like a shooter to me...

Is it that you don't have a bow yet??

Anyone hunt with a Browning Automatic Rifle
ants replied to eagle rider's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
I hunted with a Remington 7400 carbine years ago (30-06 iron sites). It shot decent groups with the irons, but I never fired it past 60-70 yards or so. I shot a few deer with it but it liked to jam> A friend wanted it so I sold it to him and he has slayed many deer with it since then. It still jams now and then. I bought a new Remington 750 in 243 when they first came out. I topped it with a Nikon and it shot great groups at 100yds. Opening morning Im in my new stand with my new rifle and a nice buck appeared at 35-40 yards. I pull up right behind the shoulder, Im thinking "happy happy" I pull the trigger and "CLICK". I try to slowly get the round out of the chamber a new one in but ended up dropping rounds onto the base of my metal stand "CLINK>>CLINK>CLINK" and the buck leaves in a hurry. Still not sure If I had a bad round or if I didn't let the round seat fully in the chamber, because I was trying to be quiet when I loaded up, and I let the bolt forward slow and quiet rather than just letting it slam home. Either way that was the end of semis for me. Bolt actions for rifle zones and a pump for shotgun zones. -
The 2015 Season is Creeping Up Fast, What is your game plan?
ants replied to burmjohn's topic in Deer Hunting
Have to get my a$$ on the tread mill more and put together a couple new ladder stands I bought after last season. I got a good idea where to put them, since I have been thinking about it since the last day of ML season. Got to break out the bow, and sight in a new muzzle loader round Im trying. A ton of other stuff. -
Out of the three I would go with the Franchi 20ga. A lot of the Spanish made guns are good but I would be leery of a brand I never heard of. Something seems screwy with the Browning, and 16ga ammo can be hard to find. Franchi is a good quality gun and 20 ga ammo is everywhere. Good luck.

Interesting shotgun round…..arrow in action?
