  4. Wooly... The mount looks great! I'm not sure if it was mentioned on the previous thread but any idea how big he is?
  5. Incredible pictures!!!! I'm still waiting for your wildlife photos book to hit the shelf!
  6. Definately interesting... I wonder if they're worth anything?
  7. Great video! Congrats on your first turkey!!
  8. Sounds like your daughter has had some terrible teachers!!! lol All joking aside, when teachers receive support from parents, most children excel in school. Unfortunately, that is not the case today. I believe that changes in society have greatly influenced how well students do in school. For example, when I was growing up, I would come home from school and complete my homework with my mother. How many children have a parent home when they get home from school? How many kids attend a latch key program because both parents have to work?
  9. Tell that to the NYS Education Department... As an educator, I would much rather spend my time with my students preparing them for lifelong activities. However, while my evaluation and job security are tied to these tests, I will do everything I can to make sure my students are prepared!!
  10. While I am not defending your daughter's teacher and I would not of chosen the words that this person has used, I can understand her position in trying to have the students see the importance in these state tests. I'm sure this teacher just wants her students to do there best considering that their evaluation and job security is based on it.
  11. How accurate are the results when many parents tell their children that it's a test for their teachers, not them? Or... it's a difficult test so my child is going to "opt out"? What does that teach children of today? When life gets difficult, we all know that you can't just opt out. Believe me, I am all for holding teachers accountable, but there needs to be some accountability on the students part as well.
  12. I can tell you personally that the NYS ELA state test that my 8th grade students just finished this week was a grueling three days! The test consisted of 9 long passages with 72 multiple choice questions, 3 more passages and 3 short responses with and essay on day 2, and 3 more passages with 5 short responses and another essay for day 3. Grow, the sad part is that this test is for the teachers. It has no effect on the student what so ever. The test scores a student receive does not reflect the type of classes they take the following year. This test, which many parents are telling their children not to worry about or having them "opt out" is the same test that teachers are being elavuated on. If we truly want to improve the educational system, we should follow the model of other countries that have surpassed the United States. Most of those countries do not have standardized testing and they also tract their students into two categories. One as college ready and the second prepares them for a trade. In my honest opinion, today belief that every student should go to college is flawed. I have friends that have become incredibly successful from learning a trade and never attending college.
  13. I purchased an echo 18 inch gas at Home Depot for $300. Definately good enough for small trees. Cut down two fairly decent size trees three weeks ago with no problem.
  14. Hey Grow, I'm definately interested in seeing how this works for me. Last year I planted corn without much luck. So basically you till the plot, spread fertilizer and corn seed (HEAVY), then retill very lightly, and then drag harrow after that? Is there anything else you found helpful to keeping the grackle off the food plots???
  15. I did it over three seperate days. I did a scratch coat up as far as I planned on working for that day. I then layed the stone out on a piece of plywood and back buttered the stone when I was ready to put it up. I found if I went too far the stone would begin to sag because of the weight. The toughest part was the curved cuts around the top of the fireplace. Once I got past that point, it went pretty quick.
  16. I got a wood burning stove back in September and I finally got around to putting the mantel and stone up. Now I don't feel bad leaving for a couple of weekends in May for some turkey!
  17. Thanks Split! Also, if anyone is interested, I came across a new website for trees and planting supplies (The Wildlife Group). The prices seemed reasonable. I believe they are selling the grow tubes for around $3. Its the best price that I have seen on the web. http://www.wildlifegroup.com/
  18. That a lot of trees. Have you taken them out of the garage yet? I don't think that we are suppose to have any nights below freezing any time soon. I was planning on putting my pots on the back deck this weekend. They could definately use some sunlight!!! How's the property search going?
  19. wow... the color is incredible.
  20. Are you going to pot them or plant them in their permanent home? Is it too early to plant outside?
  21. Wow!!! That's all I can say! Wowwww!
  22. Frost seeded a clover plot, bargained with a local farmer to make one of my plots bigger and plant corn this year, and I will plant 10 chestnut trees this fall.
