That was one of the reasons I picked up a camera in the first place. Until then, I was just "telling tall tales" until I learned this way of bringing the experiences home with me to share. I hated being "that guy" who had a story for everything and then seeing folks just roll their eyes in disbelief every time I opened my mouth, lol. Nobody does that any more because I never leave home without it.

I went out this morning and the gobblers were hammering at the thunder from the roost.. Eventually they flew down and passed by within sight. I counted 14 birds in the flock, and not one responsive bird in the bunch. By 7:30 I had enough when my bug spray started dripping in my eyes. Hunting in the rain is no fun to me.

Yep- I've had really good dealings with Primos customer service when it came to returning cams for new units. I've returned 3 of them for different issues than Ed's, but it was always no questions asked, and they eventually sent me the upgraded version Ultra Blackout 60.

Thanks guys, fawning season ranks right up there with shed season for me! I love photographing these little guys, but this was the first time I ever had to do it in the dark. Pygmy- I never used to use a light at night, but I got tired of getting poked in the eyes before a hunt. Guess I just use it for my own physical well being. I ain't scared of the dark or anything silly like that, lol skyhunter- he was no bigger than a short loaf of bread. Very close in size comparison to an adult cat. He didn't look "wet" so no telling when he dropped.

Up until this post, I'd never even heard of the guy, but I don't really keep up on stuff like that. To be honest with ya, even if he pulled off the hoax without a hitch, I probably still wouldn't be able to tell you who he is. Right now after reading that link I still don't even know or care who he is,lol I guess he's gonna have do something more than kill a couple big deer if it's his "celebrity reputation" he's looking to uphold.

What a whopper! Congrats to you both!

Hiking into my turkey blind this morning when I bumped a deer. That's been happening every morning lately, so nothing unusual there. A little further along I spotted a little dot in my headlight beam reflecting back at me so I went to check it out and here's what I found! I was getting a little carried away with pictures flashing in his face and forgot that I needed to pay attention to where momma was before she put the boots to me,lol. I forced myself to leave him after a few shots so mom could get back to him and went on to another exciting turkey hunt! I let him get a good whiff of me so he remembers who I am in a few weeks when he's moving around on his own.

Those gut hooks scare me! Have you considered a set of climbing sticks at all? I climbed up in one of my stands last week where I only use steps where I don't have a branch. On my way up one of the steps I had my foot on spun out 90+ degrees and almost sent me for a ride. I think the only place I'll be using steps anymore is above my stand to hang my gear from.

I used to use a crow call quite a bit and had some good luck with 'em until I'd lose them like I do most of my calls. Eventually I just started crow calling with my own voice and found it works just as well. I had this group of 5 jakes hung up in front of me last week so I decided to have a little fun with it and test my mad turkey locating skills even though I knew they were right in front of me,lol Click the pic for a 30 second crow call clip.

Looks like nobody here is interested. My odds should be pretty good then! Make sure you keep that heavy palmated buck in the top right corner safe in his stall until I get there.

Been seeing and hearing a mess of gobblers every day here since the opener. This weekend I didn't see or hear squat!
-
Haha- actually she's just getting ready to kick you out anyhow, so get lost kid! Your mommas pregnant again and you're not her favorite any more... she's disowning you after she heard what you and your brother did last fall!

Good work Joe! You too Dorsilfin! Nice looking head.

I've found two turkey nests in the goldenrod since May 1'st that have been completely raided by the scavengers. Yesterday, this lone egg in the timber that still had the yolk in it. The leaves really started popping even in the mature woods today. Hopefully the odds of some of these eggs making it to the point of hatching will increase as the new green growth adds some cover. Does anyone know if the success rate of clutches layed later in the spring stand a better chance of survival than these early ones? I'm assuming they would fair better, but you know what they say about assumptions.

Very nice gobblers- sounds like some great action! I believe you may have hatched from an egg yourself, lol. Nicely done!

Happy B-day fellas! Enjoy the weekend getaways!

I see a lot of hawks around here get chased off and harassed by gangs of crows. Maybe a crow decoy would help?

Booner! Good job!

Congrats grow! Great gobbler!

This topic has become near and dear to me. The Monday after the youth hunt, I headed to one of my stick blinds to photograph more turkey, only to find someone had stolen the dekes I'd just bought. I left them behind so I wouldn't have to haul them up the hill every day with all my other gear. Needless to say, I was pissed! I was also convinced that decoys are simply eye candy, and turkey will decide upon spotting them how they'll react positively or negatively depending on what kind of mood they're in any given day. I like using dekes, but there was no way I was buying new ones this year so I built my own. Perhaps not anatomically correct in every aspect, but he's got all the right colors in all the right places, and that's all that matters, lol A rolled up pair of black sweatpants for his body.., some masking tape racing stripes for wings.., a foam magic marker head with red satin toppings.., and an old jake fan from last year. Oh yeah, he fooled 4 jakes yesterday morning, and this morning he convinced 4 longbeards and 6 hens to come take a closer look at his masculine physique. Got it all on video too, so that was pretty sweet! I gotta admit, I was skeptical myself at first, but he hasn't turned a bird away yet! These turkeys ain't nearly as smart as some of you guys are leading them on to be.

5-7-14 I went out this evening to try to roost a gobbler for the morning, No luck with that, but instead I did find another antler! It's from the beefy 4pt I got pics of last fall. Antlers- 14 Sets- 3

Maybe an archery hunter tried to cut his toe nails and it got infected. I just came up with that scenario after this mornings hunt.

Dang man, that's horrible! There's too much competition out there for a taxi to do such shoddy work and expect to survive long. Really a shame he screwed it up so bad. Wishing you luck finding a reputable stuffer for the next critter you want preserved!

A little freezer burn on the drumsticks ain't so bad as long as the breast meat's ok! Unique trophy, congrats!

Not working for me.... I'm still seeing all the same cockroaches that have been here from the start.
