  1. Saw these guys this morning. What would this first one be considered....jake...tom...who cares? I'm really no good at field judging turkey without seeing the tail feathers, so this one gets popped first or last bird for me. Here's one I know fits the longbeard profile, but all he would give me were long shots.
  2. 4-14-14 I GOT "TUBBY'S" OTHER ANTLER....!!!! (sort of!) I headed out early this morning to go get some turkey pics at the field, where the strutters and gobblers treated me to a great show! On my way out, I decided to make a big loop through the creekbottom and cut into some thickets that run between the neighbors houses about a mile up the road. Found a little old skull first, and then there was no doubt in my mind I just laid eyes on Tubby's other antler! (the mate to #2 antler in my journal and my goal buck for this shed season) My season was finally complete.... or so I thought, lol As I was hiking out, something just didn't feel and look right, but I couldn't quite put my finger on what it was. Poor thing was a little water logged and faded from laying in that runoff, so that must have been it! I got home and couldn't wait to get the pair together again! I ran inside and grabbed his other antler and laid them out for the reunion photos... then it finally hit me,lol! Yep, same side antler from last year and darn near identical in size other than a little more mass. I don't know where the heck he's hiding all those right sides, but it sure would be nice to complete at least one of the sets. (preferably the fresh one) Antlers- 11 Sets- 3 Dead bucks- 4 Dead doe/fawns- 12
  3. I'm no turkey guru, but I would think nesting habitat this time of year is one of the most important aspects of what kind of population a property holds. If turkey are nesting in less than ideal mature woods areas, which I've noticed several times here in recent years, there may very well be a decline as the poults fall to predation and the elements. I don't know how many times I've discovered a nest out in the open at the base of a tree, only to return to find it had been raided and destroyed by critters a day or two later.
  4. Great view, and lots of critters roaming around them hills!
  5. Can't make any "dumb blonde" jokes about that one! Great shot.
  6. Another sweet find LTDH! Way to match that one up, and pay the price in blood, lol I had a berry thorn grab me by the cartilage on the back of my ear the other day and it wouldn't let me go. That just seemed on par with the way my season has been going. I got a mess of antlers with that big chunk of the skull still attached, but usually the sets will closely resemble each other. I've always believed those antlers got forced off earlier than they were ready to drop naturally. Maybe helped out by rubbing or sparring when shedding time was close enough to weaken the base enough. Anyhow, congrats on #8!
  7. You could have stopped right there.... that explains everything, lol
  8. My money's on the mallard. Greater wingspan, a stiff upper lip, and he just looks like he could take one on the chin, unlike that show boating glamorous woody.
  9. Don't matter to me none what color they are. I don' discriminate!
  10. Yep, I'm just gonna eat the thing anyhow, so I don't care about what kind of whiskers he's got!
  11. I got one of those you can have too Red,lol I never got any more than a weeks worth of battery life out of it, and no more than 100 pics on a fresh set. That's another one that's collecting dust here. You should come up to run around the park for antlers again sometime so I can get rid of some of this junk!

    Ghosts?

I don't know if that qualifies as a paranormal encounter, or a hallaucination, but damn man..., back in my hay days, the difference between reality and under the influence were hard to define. I ain't pokin' fun at anybody here so keep them coming, unless you think the rest will think badly of you! Sure beats the crap out of the worn out x-bow and CWD topics, lol

    Paula

Sometimes that's the beauty of photography!
  14. If I were a betting man, my money would be on the the color yellow over blue as a curiosity or feed based attractant. Has anyone else ever noticed how deer seem to gravitate towards our enhanced camo patterns of late? I swear sometimes in the late stages of fall and winter, the green in the pattern is what grabs their attention.

    Ghosts?

That's kind of on the same level as the topic, so thanks for the contribution pardner! Maybe I'm just bored, and my mind is wandering, but this could open up a post of fun and ridicule in beliefs, just like the rest of the site, lmao
  16. Boooooooooooooo.......... Boooooooooooooooooooo.......................................BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH!!! Anyone ever seen, or heard, or had any other paranormal encounters with "The Other Side", or something that happened that there was no logical explanation for? I think I just had a visitor, that's why I ask,lol ... I'm being serious even with the lol. Let's hear some spooky, or angelic guardian angel stories..... I'll bet every ones got at least one or two unexplainable phenomena they can relate to this post.
  17. That's the way hunting used to be, before we all hopped online to pick each other apart.
  18. You just earned your 2000 "like" with this post! CONGRATULATIONS,lol! Can't wait for 2014 x-bow season, but I'm afraid all the crying from the stands of "real archery hunters" is gonna have an impact on deer movement.

Spooky... is that infrared or photoshop effects? If my therapist showed me that in an ink blot I'd say it looks like a massive tangle of shed antlers, lol
  20. That was my initial impression when I shot mine for the first time a few weeks ago. I doubt I'll even bother with the noise dampener stuff. It's not like it really needs to put on any more weight and I don't expect it to make a noticeable difference. First time I pulled the trigger, I saw my bolt sticking out of the bullseye, and then a few seconds later I heard a sonic boom and saw the vapor trail.....faster than the speed of sound and light I tell ya,lol Unbelievable damn near one hole accuracy to boot! Seriously impressed by the performance but I may have exaggerated the speed deal a bit.
  21. Dang- over 50% set rate is phenominal! Don't slow down now with green-up right around the corner. Hope you can grab a few more before you start grabbing gobblers by their ankles! Congrats on another nice set!
  22. Outstanding! Your time spent out there this year is really starting to show itself in a nice little bundle of antlers so far! Congrats on another sweet shed find. Should be a nice weekend to get out there and scoop up a few lunkers to top off your pile! Looking forward to your next find(s). Good luck!
