Very bad news flowing in tonight. I can't find Jenny ANYWHERE! I just got in touch with her best friend Natalie(aka Natty) who's dad just happens to be an undercover high ranking 8 star officer for the ABV! He just stopped over to take reports and talk to witnesses about Jenny's last where abouts.... I swear to you guys....., I HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH HER DISAPEARANCE!

I shot down to the trout stream today just to try to photograph some avid anglers in action. All I saw was a few guys sitting under a bridge with bobbers washed up against the shore as they were sucking down their sudz. Not exactly the most photogenic bunch I've come across, and I only ran into one guy carrying out a 20"er that looked like he was pretty serious fisherman. You guys did good today compared to the local boys I saw here on the East Branch Caz! Nice fish all that posted pics.... I'll just take your word for those who didn't.

It's not too late for that buddy!

That's definitely NOT MY Jenny. My Jenny is much taller and heavier! Gotta be her baby sister, lol

I thought grey fox would have been the #1 answer on the board, but we do like to think to extremes!

I'm gonna have to have a good long talk with her tonight when she gets home! I've been wooried sick... but I'm glad to see she was in good hands, lol

Morel mushrooms
wooly replied to deerhuntinghippie's topic in DIY - Do It Yourself, tutorials and videos
I was pretty happy to find 3 jumbos last year, but by the time I had gotten to them, they weren't fit for consumption IMO. I'll keep a closer eye on that spot this spring. Maybe one of you mushroom heads can answer a question for me. What's the life expectancy of a morel from the time it peaks through the leaves, till the time you have to harvest it. It seems the slugs around here get on them (and any other shrooms) REAL quick and I'm always a day or two too late. -

I have more experience than I ever hoped for on that topic. I was married TWICE,lol They can be down right vicious! -
Pretty cool he got a shot of that buck still packin' before the fog lifted! That was a nice reward for his effort! I give him a lot of credit. It's not always easy getting out there at the crack of dawn post season in hopes of bringing home a few pictures. Sweet shots!

Proficiency - How good do you think you are?
wooly replied to RoadKill44's topic in General Chit Chat
Well let me be the first to admit that I'm not the best bow shot by any stretch. While I do well on paper out to 40yds, that doesn't always carry over into the field with me under hunting conditions. I guess I'm one of the lazy bowhunters that doesn't have to time or desire to spend months pre-season preparing on paper or foam practicing long range shots. For me at least, my proficiency with archery gear has increased by shrinking my personal maximum range on game drastically. That has translated to my bow never coming off the hook on what some here would consider slam dunk opportunities at 25yds and beyond. I've learned that I'm ok with that, and will have to sacrifice a few shot opps every year because of it. I've lost my share of deer over the years by trying to force shots I should have passed on or waited for them to close the distance. I've got a pretty good streak going these last 1/2 dozen seasons or so, and I see no reason to try to extend my range again. -
If ANYONE has a right to be PO'ed about where "archery tackle" has infringed on their seasons..... it should be the the fisherman! How would you guys like it if opening day of bow season fisherman across the state invaded the woods casting barbed corn cobs into every bedding and feeding thicket, lol.

That's awesome! I'm constantly checking out holes in trees for one of those little guys, but I haven't found any around here yet. Those are some really clean/sharp shots for cranking up the ISO to that level! Did you use any noise reduction, or are these straight out of camera?
-
Everything has been quiet in my area of 9h so far. Starting to see a little more sign lately, but nothing willing to communicate yet. I'm just getting started hunting them with the camera now.

Jenny called on my way home today and wanted me to take her shed huntin'! I was pretty pumped! We gave it hell.., but nothing but big fat goose eggs for us today! She's having some friends over tonight, so I'm stuck entertaining!

I'll bet the same could be said for sales of compound bows just prior to, or right at that time of year. Heck.., gun sales SKY ROCKET just weeks and days before opening day as most of us know. I wouldn't judge hunter competency on when they choose to buy their weaponry.... no matter what weapons they decide to purchase, at whatever time of year. It's not too terribly hard to get any modern day weapon dialed in, in no time flat!
-
As with any youth season, it offers them an introduction to the outdoors no matter what they're hunting.... or what weapon they're hunting with. The "WHO" they are hunting with is what it really boils down to, for me at least and opens the door to generations to come. That's where the impressions are left. We don't all leave footprints behind us, but those that do, like to look back at them sometimes as others follow in our footsteps.
-
I thought you were going to glue them all together and make a mixed wood board. Simple is good though! Put a big toothy clamp on one end and you got yourself a slimey fish filleting board.
-
Dang man..., not even one single drop of stain on the paper! Even the stain can is clean of stain. You are a PRO-ffesional no doubt about it! When I stain something.., I stain EVERYTHING,lol!
-
I guess it depends on what my pre-season scouting reveals. If I KNOW there's a cranker in the area and don't want to risk flubbing a slam dunk shot with the compound, I'll go exclusively x-bow. Last year I filled my archery buck tag the second week of season and my x-bow never saw the light of day as I continued on with the compound but with little desire to shoot a doe. Just because I choose one weapon one day, doesn't mean I wont change my mind the next. I enjoy hunting with both, and would likely mix it up as well.
-
I know one thing for sure. When, and IF firearms ever find their way into early archery seasons it's going to add a new level of safety concerns in some areas while the trees are still all leafed out. If you think that hunting related accidents are too high now.... just wait and watch them climb. I know myself for one will feel a little uncomfortable moving around out there under those conditions.

Happy 40'th B-day John-boy! Hope you don't get stuck at the office again!

Well Paula, the original post was about antlerless deer seasons in Wisconsin, so I thought I'd drop that bomb that Wisky already has a wolf population. Since I'm dropping links tonight, here's another. See, Wisky also already has an "all inclusive" x-bow season and they STILL can't get antlerless #'s under control. My guess would be the wolves will flourish soon in this deer rich environment and even the x-bow guys will be left wondering if they could have done more since there seems to be a lot of backlash to this "antlerless only" proposal. Nature will find it's own way of balancing things out if hunters don't want to do their part. http://www.deeranddeerhunting.com/articles/wisconsin-crossbow-hunting-now-open-for-all

EXCELLENT!!! That telescope does a nice job,lol

Screw the crossbows and antlerless only seasons..... welcome the REAL hunters that wont discriminate or be held accountable for mistakes in gender identification! http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/wildlifehabitat/wolf/maps.html

You obviously don't love your piwo as much as I thought you did,lol
