  1. Welcome. You picked a nice location for deer hunting.
  2. Awesome Grampy. You will be a great teacher. Saw it with my son! Natalie is going to your class when she is ready.
  3. After looking at photos I am 99% sure they were grouse or flying woodchuck
  4. I have had the pleasure of sitting in it on my stands a few times. Blamed the coons when I should have been blaming jmark. Stay out of my stands, or at least don't poop on them jmark.
  5. You know I remember hearing them when we bear hunted but I have never heard them at my property. Then again, if the drumming takes place in spring, I am rarely at the property. And, this could be a new grouse invasion.
  6. Between NYC and South Dakota
  7. That's a pretty bird but it had more of that random camo look like the grouse. I don't think we have lots of them but I have been startled by one each of the last two times there. They do sit tight for sure.
  8. I think TF nailed it. Looked at some pics of female grouse and I think that's the bird. Didn't realize they would like swampy areas. We do have a non-hunting sanctuary that borders my property.
  9. Woodcock hang on the ground and like swampy areas?
  10. Definitely not morning doves. Could be woodcock but I didn't notice the long beak but then again, I haven't seen one before its flying away. I thought woodcock are small.
  11. So ever since I started cutting ATV trails at my property (which is like 60% marsh and swamp and the rest hardwoods), I have these brown colored birds that sit in the trails and startle me as I walk up on them. Any idea what they can be. They seem to like to sit on the ground in the open cut trails. They look to be fairly big like morning dove size only fatter. I have had a hard time getting a good look at them as I don't see them until I almost step on them and off they go into the thick stuff. Curious what type of bird would sit on the trails. The trails where these birds sit are located in thick swamp land but not its standing water, just kind of soft and muddy with lots of undergrowth. Thought maybe quail but not sure that makes sense in this habitat.
  12. Pretty sure every stand must come with a cheap harness and tree strap. Should be easy to find a tree strap.
  13. I tried them last year for the first time and fried em up like wings. Taste was OK but boy were they tough. I figured you need some slow and low cooking style.
  14. Not going to lie. I hate harnesses. So I bought 3 of these and they make it very easy to hook up since I have to wear it as part of the bibs. Not for everyone since its integrated in the bibs but for those of us that like to avoid harnesses (I know I shouldn't), it kinda makes it mandatory. https://www.amazon.com/TREE-SPIDER-Ripstop-SpiderWeb-Hunting/dp/B00D1Q68RE Actually, these are the bibs I have: https://www.amazon.com/Scent-Blocker-Outfitter-Spider-Swwpxtm/dp/B012WNQDSU/ref=pd_sbs_200_1?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B012WNQDSU&pd_rd_r=d789f7eb-b68c-11e8-861c-cd06ea1130b1&pd_rd_w=aNFY9&pd_rd_wg=nwOg5&pf_rd_i=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=0bb14103-7f67-4c21-9b0b-31f42dc047e7&pf_rd_r=H28EVTW93B01C1SY3SZ4&pf_rd_s=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_t=40701&refRID=H28EVTW93B01C1SY3SZ4
  15. Followed by 15 and about 7-8. The close shots I don’t aim so much as I know they will hit close to where I want. I really should hold a bit longer even on the easy ones.
  16. Good shooting Larry. I know you are old school with not wanting a new compound but with the shoulder issues, a bow with a nice big valley, solid back wall and huge let off might be worth an upgrade.
  17. With my left knee, I can't run from anything. I would have to accept certain death at the paws of a cub - embarrassing ain't it!
