  1. You know we use it - lol - as evidenced by me personally being out of venison in Jan after shooting 5 last year. In fact, you donated one to the church last year as I recall.
  2. On this side note, if any of you want to donate deer near Rochester, the men's ministry at my church does a soup kitchen on the last Sat. of every month. We buy/cook the food and give it out to those in need in the inner-city (usually around Ave. A and Clinton). If you really want to donate a deer, let me know and I will be happy to butcher and cook it up for use by the ministry. We typically do about 50 meals a month.
  3. Justice Potter Stewart
  4. Each will have their own opinion. I agree ending suffering was the best result regardless, but it sure it nice not to waste. I have no idea whether, if reported, it would go to food bank. But assuming it would, and he didn't want the meat, then one could argue it would have been better for him to report. Again, I agree with his decision, reported or not.
  5. No argument here. You demonstrate well how the two overlap but are not one in the same. Two layers so to speak.
  6. IMO - ethics and legality are two separate measuring sticks. Ethics are a personal moral code (how you conduct yourself regardless of others). Legal requirements are the rules and regulations established by society that are supposed to represent the ethical code of the majority of society. They don't always meet or mesh. In this case, the law required that he contact DEC or police to report the issue. The end result, would likely have been the same. I have no issue with his personal decision to put that deer down and use the meat - whether or not his actions complied with the law.
  7. That's a good price. Not sure you can buy the raw materials for much less.
  8. Sounds like with the new release you are having a tough time replicating your anchor. Peep may need to move to be consistent and have the proper view. Try drawing the bow with eyes closed and anchor. Then open your eyes. Is the peep lined up with the sight and your eye? If not, peep adjustments must be made. You may also want to go back to your old release if the new one isn't working well.
  9. Had no idea my property was so famous. lol
  10. 2009 GT500 - but I will be the first to admit, I have owned more bows than any man should over the last 3 years. I am weaning myself off of that addiction, including a self imposed ban from the AT classifieds. In the end, most modern bows will get the job done and done well. I can tell you that this 5 year old GT is also as nice as any of the newer bows I owned. I do have a new bow on order, but the new plan is to stick with these two for several years at least. Always nice to have a back up.
  11. Great news! Enjoy the season worry free.
  12. Red and Flo orange - matches strings and wraps and I can usually seem them in flight.
  13. Thanks you too. Its has been a very erratic season for sure. Caught a few Tues in 80fow, 55ft down. But some reports are now showing them in as close as 30-50ft. Doubt the big blow the next few days will make a difference as they are already late as you mentioned and temps are not so critical this time of year. PM me if you ever want to get together to fish. Sorry if I derailed this thread.
  14. Why? That would leave you with a 1.5? Need to maintain the proper order. lol You should see the massive buck I have patterned that I failed to mention to you. I will let you see it when I drag it out. You can even put it in your truck. Makes Bases look like a button.
  15. Good luck this weekend NYbuck50. Hopefully the weather will cooperate. Which port? They are starting to stage near Rochester, albeit a bit late.
  16. No small ones buddy - all 30lbs plus on Sat. and yes, you will reel them in with David. Just keep the butt of the rod out of your ribs or wear a flak jacket. Should have mentioned that before your last king. lol Don't want any excuses when I shoot a bigger buck than you!
  17. Only have a few more weeks before the kings are done, need to get that time in. Good luck Law.
  18. I am going fishing for kings this weekend, weather permitting. Does that count as prep work?
  19. Good luck with the bow. Just ordered an obsession phoenix and can't wait, although I suspect it will be next season before it is broken in.
  20. Congrats on the new property. Just continue to be strict and you will lock it down in time. Heck, since you live there, it will likely be locked down by the end of this season.
  21. My wife is the same. Doesn't like hunting but understands I do and rolls with it. She even asked when the season started so she can go visit family since I am not around. lol She is also excellent at cleaning the venison and shrink wrapping. I have no complaints.
  22. Unless you plan on shooting beyond 120ish (with a 100yd zero), I bet the red dot will work just fine. If you plan on shooting longer with holdover, I would scope it.
  23. I can see why someone would view my comment regarding bear as inconsistent with my view of baiting for deer. I guess my view changes on bear because I am not sure its realistic to target bear in most of ny without baiting. I understood that most bear taken in ny are by chance when a hunter is pursuing deer. I suppose there are some pockets of ny where this may not be the case.
