Got out today, but for ducks instead of deer. I got to my spot right before shooting time, so I only put out 3 black duck decoys. I was greeted to 100 geese already on the water when I got there, so they were really noisy for a while. I had about 10-15 wood ducks fly from behind me to a spot 60 yards infront of me. The clouds kept it dark, so I couldnt really get a shot at them. I had 2 land 40 yards infront of me so I took a shot when they were on the water. When I shot, a bunch of black ducks I didnt know where there got up, and flew infront of me. I shot and one went down, but sailed off up river. I tried to look for 2 hours, but I couldnt find either duck. The wood duck that I shot must have dove under and I couldnt see it becuase the fog and cloudy weather. So glad ill have a dog by next year so I wont deal with this. I was prepared to go back to my car to sleep so I can hunt the evening, but I decided to walk a smaller creek to see If i can jump shoot some. I was just about to give up when I saw a nice group of ducks up river. I tried to sneak up on them using the terrain, but Im not sure what happened. I saw them at 40 yards and made a loop, but they were gone when i did. A little up river I see another group of 10 woodies about 60 yards up. It took me 45 min to make it 40 yards through the bushes, It was noisy so I ended up waiting for the wind to blow to move a few feet. 45 min on my hands and knees is not easy lol. I took 3 shots and 2 birds went down. One gorgous male and an immatue male. When I got up my knees gave out after being on my knees for so long. When I got up, the big male vanished. It was a slow river so its not like It could have gotten away from me that easy. I ended up getting the immature male that im cooking up as i speak. It sucks to lose those ducks, but there wasnt anymore that I could do -
It would make people more selective, but I only know a handful of people that can actually kill 2 bucks a year. Of those people, typically its onle 1 guy who will actually do it (he usually does it every year). I dont think itll help all that much as most of the people shooting younger deer, just want to shoot the first legal deer they see

Im saving it for the dog when I pick him up lol -
I just want to say, that I did not go in and do not plan to go in. I was just curious if it is considered posted or not
-
As I was walking the river I noticed a lot of land that was posted, but I noticed some land did not have the name on the posted sign. I was told by the DEC to put my grandparents name and address on their posted signs when I posted their land a couple weeks back. I was wondering If anyone knows if that land is considered to be properly posted or not? I didnt enter the property regardless, but im just curious.

Heres my update for the day. I was deciding between two spots to duck hunt this morning and decided to hunt a smaller creek vs a bigger river. On the small dirt road to the spot, I spotted an absolute giant buck in a field. I got to my spot and settled in along the creek by 6:20. Around 7 I looked up and saw about 6 deer walking single file across the creek about 60-70 yards away. After about 10 min I saw 4 bucks crossing the creek at the same spot. As I was trying to memorize the spot where they crossed, I looked up and saw a flock of ducks over head and watched them land 70 yards up river. I let the deer pass and was getting ready to do a quick jump shoot on the ducks. I'm not 100 percent sure what ducks they were, but as I got up I noticed 4 ducks flying traight to me. 2 shots later I had 2 mergansers down. I told my self I wouldnt shoot them, but here I am lol. I waited another 30 min to see if any more ducks were flying, but I saw none so I decided to walk the creek to see if I can jump shoot anymore. I saw a few mergansers, but decided to not shoot. As I was walking I heard a tree shaking and deer blowing, so I figured It was a squirrel making noise and spooking a deer. I decided to look up at the tree and saw my first bear. I thought It was so cool, until I started questioning the size and got worried it was a cub so I backed out and ran out of there. I was only 30 yards from the tree, but I didnt see any other bears there so Im assuming it was a really young bear in its first year with out mama. After that I decided to pack up and get out to not risk it. Almost shot 2 black squirrels, but I didnt want to get hit with a tresspass since It was just on the other side of the posted signs. I found the trail the deer were using to walk between the woods and the ag fields seperated by the creek, so Ill be back there soon enough for a hunt. I ended up going to check the spot i originally wanted to go and what do you know...its loaded with wood ducks and black ducks. I took a couple shots as they flew over me after the spooked, but It was a bit far for my IC choke. Ive made shots like that on big ducks before with M chokes, but they were just a bit too far. Ill be going there hopefully saturday or friday morning to see if I can get my first wood duck. After that its pretty much pure deer hunting till december -
Duck hunting this morning, but I saw about 12 deer, a monster buck and a bear. Should have brought my bow lol
-
Lol I missed it. Ive been up since 4am, cut me some slack lol

Morning of usually
-
I have never done it. My closest spot is an hour and 10 away from my house, so I don't really have the time to shower in the morning if i plan to be there on time and hunt all day
-
It only worked for me once, but it was a really nice buck

What are the best rattling antlers that you guys use (except the real ones)? Im looking for something to rattle with, but don't want to lug a real set around
-
Whered you get them to price match from?
-
Im trying to find a place I can pick it up and not pay for the hazard shipping lol
-
Where did you pick up the BH 209?
-
I have a guy. Lost his number, but ill get it for you in a little.

I had a feeling. I know the owner and his father very well. I fish infront of his house for the last 10 years. This was the first year I didnt make it up. In fact there may be a chance I met you last year when I was there with Sam and mt father. He was introducing us to people (A few of his cousins also)

What preserve?

Craziest thing ive seen are guys wearing no orange during gun season and a dude that was high out of his mind and had no clue where he was (or probably who he was)
-
I dont think its too much of a weight savings with the sticks and the ropes (ropes and up wighing a lot). Its mostly the bulk for me. My climber was a pain in the ass to haul more than half a mile
-
Its actually easier than you think. The first few shots i took were like shooting from the ground

T/C is a fantastic gun and well worth the money. I however went with the CVA Accura because its easier to load than the T/C. Im usually a T/C guy, but they are known to have tighter barrels. Now I just need to find a place thats relatively close that sells blackhorn 209
