  1. I see no reason why you can't. Its not classified as a type of firearm so it shouldn't be a problem. Good thing I only have a vertical bow lol
  2. I would think that the noise from the loop will spook a deer every once in a while. I personally use string loop material for mine.
  3. Hes a great taxidermist! I dropped off the 10 point I have in my profile and he did a great job on it. He was very professional and the turn around time was exactly as he told me which was pretty darn quick.
  4. Wow thats awesome! I think I should start hunting in LI next year. Are you the owner of fish unlimited first light?
  5. I have seen a bunch of scrapes pop up and a lot of buck activity. I also heard bucks chasing a group of does when I was out looking for my deer.
  6. I think that your fine as long as the water looks ok. All water has bacteria but a pond will generally have more then tap water. I use stream water to clean out the deer when I gut it but I always do a rinse down using tap water.
  7. Awesome buck! I started seeing a lot of scrapes now!
  8. Ya I understand that and I would fall into that same category as you guys. I just happened to make a mistake I thought I wouldn't make but unfortunately I had a lapse of judgment. I also did word it very weird but I only had 3 hours of sleep that night so I was kind of loopy by the time I was home.
  9. Well I was able to talk to my professor today and get the class off to go look for the deer before my midterm. I found him about 400 yards from the place i shot him. Turns out that my shot was a double lung shot but the little guy still ran all that way before going down. Do any of you know how he could have made it that far with a double lung shot. I know of some one who tracked a double lung shot deer for 700 yards before so I'm thinking that the adrenalin kept the guy going. Ill post the pics when I get home from class today. Only thing ill say is that some of you guys act like you never had a laps in judgment before and in no way was i making any excuses for what happened.
  10. Hahahaha I didn't even see that lol. I think being up since 3 AM has taken its toll on my grammar. Good catch though!
  11. Ya I knew I was going to catch a little flack for this but I cant say its not undeserved. I made a rookie mistake for the first time in a few years. I didn't think it was going to be a bad shot but I forgot to mention that I hit my Tree stand when I shot so it pulled my shot a few inches from where I wanted it to be. It wasn't a bad angle but I normally like to wait for a better one. I wont be able to get out to look for it but the next door neighbor is going to give it a shot. I posted this knowing id get a few responses I wouldn't like but its the truth and its the first deer I have ever not been able to find.
  12. Well I had an interesting day today! I saw nothing all morning but that's because I got there an hour late thanks to daylight savings time, but I had trail cam pics of a couple does and a decent 8pt at 6am. So when I leave my stand I see a deer that I always see in the same exact spot at the same time. I decide to give a stalk a try and I actually got with in 15-20 yards but it turned out to be a small spike so I let him be. While i was eating my lunch in my car the spike actually came in about 15 yards from my car and stayed around for a little while. Fast forward to 4 I had a doe come in at 20 yards which as we all know is a chip shot right...I guess my body didn't know that 'cause I choked and shot right under it. I actually hit it but with the shaft so all I did was give it a shock. 1 min later that same spike and 4 does came in the same path. I took a shot at a fawn that was in the group and I thought I was a little far forward but it did a face plant into the ground so I figured dead deer running. When I see it go down right away I got a little worried and gave it a little time before I got down. I found the blood right away and I could see it was lung blood so I just walked to where I last saw the deer. Turns out that it was just a single lung shot. I had to leave it because I lost the blood eventually and I needed to go home. I saw it run into the property owners brother's property as I was leaving but I know its done by now. I usually never take the shot angle I took but I figured it was a fawn and that it would blow right through the deer which was some what true but I didn't get a complete pass through. It was a good day but this put a real damper on my drive home.
  13. I hunted with a 22 that was probably from the early 1900 before. The gun was still a tack driver!
  14. I think this weekend is going to kick start some seeking and chasing.
  15. Congrats on your first deer! And congrats to your father.
  16. I would wait it out. With the rut around the corner, they're going to be really ramped up and on edge so I would bet he'll be coming in during daylight soon.
  17. Ive had them move on windy days but they're usually running around because they're scared of the wind. Most of the deer I see on windy days are during the times when the wind isnt blowing hard.
  18. That's an awesome buck! Congrats to your son.
  19. I shoot 180gr bullets. When i was doing my initial search of 30-06 I saw that the 180gr had the most kinetic energy then all the other grains.
  20. Well you could always invite a DEC officer to hunt with you on your land. I doubt you'll see another poacher/trespasser with in 10 miles. I would also suggest you put switch grass or some type of very very tall grass around your fields so people cant see the deer in the fields.
  21. My main one is a chain with the Albanian Eagle on it.
  22. I couldn't care less if it was the key to eliminating scent to be honest. You are going to be breathing in ozone gases which are harmful to humans.
