    I zero my 30-06 for 100 yards because i'm not likely to shoot over 100-150 yards.

    I prefer tree stands over ground blinds but I have spent a lot of time on the ground and had some luck.

    Is shooting does with fawns allowed? I would hope not. Looks like deer season is starting early for you.

    Right now I have 5 going from 20-40 but i'm thinking about getting rid of the 25 and 35 yard pins.

    I wear some of my clothing while driving then put on the rest when I get out of my car. You can really go nuts over scent control but all I do is wash my clothing and put scent spray before I go in the woods.

    I started going out with my grandfather when I was around 5 or 6 years old I believe.

    I may catch some flack for this but I love Barnes TSX bullets. Its expensive but worth it.

    I wonder when they're going to send the lifetime licenses out?

    Well you need private land to hunt most of Westchester so you may have to start knocking on some door's. I doubt youll find someone with 10 acres but I always see deer in the areas your talking about, so its worth a shot.

    Be careful though because stewart Forrest doesn't allow the use of rifles for deer season.

    There's millions of acres of state land that you can hunt. Might be harder then private land, but it gives you a place to hunt.

    I haven't. I usually get it last week of july but not this year. Im hoping ill get them soon.

    I hear that the catskills has some of the highest densities in NY for bear. I may get out and try it this or next year.

    Welcome to the site. Its a great place to learn some local knowledge for hunting in NY. Although you wont find too much about public land so you'll be on your own for that. You could speak to a dec agent and ask them where to start looking.

    I don't think you need to put 200 rounds through your gun, in fact most people don't put 200 rounds through their deer rifle. A box of 20 should suffice really.

    Im a little confused too. Normally I get my lifetime tags in the mail by the 24 or 25 but so far neither me or my father has gotten them yet.

    I don't say that I agree really. Natural bait is different then live bait.

    Im guessing natural bait would be things like gulp and other scented soft plastics.

    I rarely use a mask and never any paint and its not as bad as you think. I don't have loads of deer or very many deer spooking when they look at me. I probably will start using some face paint but its not as important as people make it out to be.

    Ive never seen a bear yet or hear of any in the area. I know eventually they will start showing up in the area. I know one was shot close to the property I hunt in 3J but still no sign on the property its self.
