Got to my blind at 5:20 just in time to hear the first gobbles. Put out the decoys and got in my blind. I decided to put down one of the windows in my blind and got stung by a bee. Turns out they were building a hive right there and I ended up killing 5 plus the queen. Finger hurts a bit now and the gobblers that we’re pretty close sound headed up now. Not the bad start to the day, but it could be worse. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I wouldn't want to do it, because I wouldn't want to rain all those pellets down into the meat. People do it every year though, so it can be done.

Outdoor 3D range in New York or long island ?
ATbuckhunter replied to OneShotTony913's topic in Bow Hunting
Suffolk archers and Peconic Bay are the only ones I know of in Long Island. Westchester has one that I know of by the shooting range in Peekskill. Ive never shot that, but ive seen it a bunch of times when I go to sight in my rifle. -
I don't dry age at all. Usually deer are quartered that day and butchered and in the freezer the next day. I use the best cuts for steaks, the scraps and a few tougher cuts for stews/soups and then ill use the bottom round and ball roast for smoking. Really easy to go through a few deer a year when I use this system. I think using the right cuts for the right purposes is more important than aging.

Wow sounds like the turkeys are pretty fired up. Sounds better than last year already. Hoping they stay that way till Saturday.

I've come to the conclusion that there are a few things that you cant have enough of in life. Guns, property and happiness are at the top of that list.

Happy Birthday!

Fished mid day yesterday and last night. People were really hauling in the big boys. For some reason all I could manage was a 24” schoolie with my lure, but after I sent out a bunker chunk I brought in a perfect 28.5” fish. Perfect size in my book. May go out again tonight cause it was on fire yesterday Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I must be the only guy that hasent looked at my hunting gear much at all yet. All Ive done is wash my clothes again and condition my crystal call again. Ive had tests the last 2 weeks and have an organic chemistry test on Tuesday so I wont be packing my car for turkey season till I come home from that.

From the antlers or meat thread , do you like venison
ATbuckhunter replied to rob-c's topic in Deer Hunting
When beef is grass fed and allowed to eat a more varied diet than a lot of the corn finished beef here it can be tough for me to choose. I have had beef raised by my family and it was leaps and bounds better than store bought. I've always liked a more natural flavor in meat which is probably why Lamb is tied for first place for me. -

I wholeheartedly disagree. A med rare and properly seasoned venison steak will beat the same cut of meat in Beef in my opinion. A lot goes into the taste of venison like how you care for the venison in the first place, which is a big reason why many people don't like it. Properly cared for and properly cooked venison will beat beef 99 times out of 100 for me. The health benefits of venison over majority of the beef you get at the supermarket is astronomical too. To each his own though. -

I love it! When done right, its much better than beef. Ill take a back strap or tenderloin over pretty much every cut of beef out there. Beef tastes a little bland now comparatively. -
A well placed foot warmer and wool socks has saved me more times than I can think. Properly layering my upper body and lower body is just as important as warming your feet. If your core is warm, your feet will be warm.

I say both. I shoot plenty of does so I can wait for a nice buck. No point shooting a buck that Ill wish I would have let walk.

I was thinking of getting a midline vice. Something around 80 bucks. It's a griffin odyssey I believe. I figure I might as well spend a bit more money and get something I'll be a bit happier with and will do a little more. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I do have a hackle clamp and I use a ceramic bobbin to hold my thread. I also have surgical scissors with a very fine point on them. Only thing I'm missing is a vice and experience. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

A decent vise will be my next purchase for fly tying! Sometimes its a struggle doing it the way I am.

Wow what a resource he must be! Sounds like someone id like to sit down with for an afternoon, that's for sure

I'm pretty new to fly tying and I figured I'd make a thread so I could ask questions to the more knowledgeable guys here. I've tied a bunch of flies and teasers...some came out good and others, not so good. The first question I have is, do these wet flies have too much hackle? I know one definitely does, but in iffy on the rest of them. FYI try not to laugh too much at my home made tying vise. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Caught 4 more today. Guy next to me was getting them almost every cast and caught a 20 pounder. He let it go so maybe I'll hook into it next time. Anyway the biggest I got was around 24-26" but they put up a great fight on light tackle. All were released. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Got out today at my favorite striper spot about 20 min from my house. The traffic made it a 45 min drive and made me miss some of the best tide and me being too lazy to put waders on meant I couldn't stand in the spot I wanted to so I couldn't get the best casts. Either way I got 3 schoolie stripers from 14" to 22". All fun on light tackle and a 10ft noodle rod. It's amazing how they just inhale his lure. I've never had a tap on this lure, they always just swallow it. It's a little cold out so not many keepers to be had, but it's getting better each day. First one is 22" and the second is 14" Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I joined sometime in 2012 when I was a regular member of Bowhunting.com forum. Once I found out about this site, I quickly came here and made an account. I was casual here and I tended to focus on Bowhunting.com, but now I rarely go on that site and Im on here all the time. Ive met only a few members on here but all were great people that I enjoy talking to and there are some members that Id love to finally meet like Grampy and The Real TCIII. I think in general this forum is a wonderful place to learn about hunting and just talk crap with people. Where I live, isn't what you'd consider a hot bed for hunters, so I really don't have all too many people to talk hunting with other than some friends and some family members who mostly bird hunt in Europe or rifle hunt. This is usually the place I come to, to get answers to my hunting questions or even share my experiences in the woods with people who will appreciate it like I did. I was never part of the last board, but im so glad that this forum is around and healthy. Hats off to all the members who make this forum what it is and hopefully it continues!
