  1. I was waiting for that comment , you guys don't disappoint ! Btw I prefer to call it a possibles bag. I do like a bit of orange though....
  2. Buddy just stopped by he hunted tonight in 8j on his land. Bucks running like crazy, nose to,ground, grunting ,snort wheeze. This started at 3 when he got on stand, it was in the mid 70's.
  3. 8h watched a buck chasing a doe, a few other reports from the farm of bucks running does. Including a very nice one chasing 3 does around today in the heat and all. I'm taking a break till Sat. Then hitting it hard for a week or so. Friend just stopped by he hunted tonight in the heat , bucks running everywhere starting at 3:00 when he got on stand. Grunts, snort wheeze , just crazy.
  4. That's like the difference between a recession and a depression It's a recession when your neighbors out of work and a depression when you are ! Trust me in Webster (8f) there are tons of ticks and Lymn disease . I know several dogs that had it ( mine was exposed but did not present ) a few people that have had it and I have been put on antibiotics for it , which is sop for Dr.s in the town for anyone with a tick on them
  5. Remember this, Game day is seldom is like practice day. Now for practice imho the best and doubly for a new bow hunter is from a stand , and not your roof or raised platform at the range they are not the same as a stand. Both of those allow a nice wide stance , perfect form ,no concern of standing on a little platform 20 feet up that you can fall from, no branches or vines to lean, twist , or squat to avoid , no trunk that your arm can hit when you got to turn and shoot to,your right ,and all the time in the world to shoot. Also when you hang a stand get in it with your bow and hold it out and turn 360 , now draw the bow and repeat. I do this in each stand because I've raised my bow and turned only to have the arrow hit a hanging branch I thought it would clear when I hung the stand . The time to learn that your bow/ arrow is going to hit a branch, rail, stand what have you is prior to drawing on a deer. There is a learning curve we all we go through and many here have given you what they learned over years to save you the trial and error .good luck.
  6. My hunting goal is to hunt with a spear while naked .i may reach half of that goal today !! Was thinking of getting down and raking the leaves and cutting the grass, till a bit ago grunts and a. Commotion behind me .
  7. Between my bow, fanny pack, binos, and all the layers I've taken off, this tree is starting to look like the return counter at Dicks !
  8. Was just ready to go from field to brush and hop into stand , when I saw a deer chasing another on top of this hill! Good start. Other than that only one unknown behind me a bit ago. Edit 8:45 decent looks like a 2 1/2 slipped through at. 50 yards, just the type we want to let live, yet if he gives me an easy shot....
  9. I'm a about to leave for my spot , turns out today is our 27th wedding anniversary ! Hum id better shoot her a nice buck or its flowers and a card again ! Did not bow but when we got married ,I started the next year .......
  10. She has a good camera , forgot it , hiking boots? Forgot them.... Oh well she just got off 3 night shifts at the hospital I'm glad she stayed awake . She did well climbing up and clipping in and sat for 2 1/2 hours , good for a first time in a stand . That spot one can kill deer every year if not most days . I bought a bigger ladder stand and I'm going to put it in a nearby triple tree this weekend .
  11. Dicks was fresh out of camo shorts, so I made a camo speedo out of some long johns! They're cutting corn on 3 sides of me hope that keeps deer in the woods. Our oldest daughter is up in a ladder stand , learning to climb , harness and sit still for gun season . Here's a sideways pic !
  12. My two cents , then a report from the woods when I get there tonight. I killed my first bow deer 27 years ago at 10 yards, in all the years that followed the longest shot I took and killed at was 25 yards. Yes I shoot very well at 30 and not bad at all at 40, I like lay ups though. Close shots at undisturbed deer. Last year passed on what would have been my biggest buck at 12 or so yards he had no idea I was there , but a few branches to shoot through so I passed. This is a game of waiting and choosing .
  13. Yesterday the first buck I saw a young one was at 10:30, shortly after that a giant showed up at perhaps 11:00. Than a decent one at 4:00 followed by a really nice one a bit later ( 80 yards out). On my walk out there were two bucks standing in a cut corn field at dusk. I use to stay until dark but I guess I've been influenced by the clock watchers here and leave earlier .....???? Oh all times adjusted for those of you who " turn your clocks back" !

And yet I've seen 11 bucks in my last two days of hunting , many mid day. A few young ones and some really nice ones.
  15. 6 bucks today from 10:30 to the end of the hunt. One jaw dropping omg , that heard my stand creak , a couple 2 1/2's , one that fell in between those and 2 , 1 1/2s . Add in Sat. Mornings 5 bucks that's 11 bucks zero does my last two times out. Now to,get one of the big ones in range and not make noise.....
  16. I had no shot onto the field to thick along edge , but he looked like he was about to enter woods through opening I'm set up on. Perhaps we'll meet this afternoon on the otherside of the woods !
  17. Insert the F word here... I had a monster making a scrape along field and woods I'm 20 yards in , move to get ready in case he steps into woods. Stand creaks !!!!! Buck gone.
  18. Small buck just jogged along edge of woods , 20 yards away.
  19. Moved to a different stand, they're cutting the corn field behind this woods, but it's over a mile long and this woods only buts up to 250 yards of it ....
  20. The lights just came on ! First time in this stand not to happy much better for gun.
  21. Well here's to a speedy recovery !

Well good luck ! My buddies camp off West Gulick rd had tons of action Sat. But he's got it down to a science , tons of stands for each wind and really knows the land. Low winds the rest of the week. I'm just a bit north of you and movement Sat. Was very good. I'm also off all week , if you ever go to town for lunch and it works I consider meeting up , on days I stay all day I need to kill a couple hours mid day anyway.
  23. There is another thread on this somewhere . I'm off for two weeks and was really going to,hit it hard those weeks and still will. Little wind, no rain easy temps to sit all day if one wants. Now it has gone from mid 60's to low 70's , I may hunt more mornings now , but from what I saw and others reported bucks are on their feet where I hunt. I shot this guy a on a bright warm sunny afternoon. My friends old west are hunting Montana next week out of a tent, lows in the teens ! I'm ok with 60 !
