    Quiet Opener

Deer everywhere yesterday ! All 3 of us had multiple young bucks and a few doe under us , morning and afternoon . Bucks chasing in the fields , one monster in thick stuff but no shot due to well all the thick stuff. I even grunted one in from well over 300 yards ! He turned and ran right in , turned out to be a small racked one though, still fun though. Oh I got on stand around 6:40 just as it got light .if I had to get in the woods at 1 AM or even 4:30 like some of you I think I'd hang up the gun and bow. But well good luck .
  2. I agree with this . But I have zero interest in ever going back there. I've been there a few times, spent a month training with fdny and mostly I felt sorry for, those guys ( no offense jmg). They made a little more then us but the commutes and cost of living wiped that out and more. They wouldn't believe you when you, told them FF here often lived in 2,500 plus sq houses on an acre with built in pool in a suburb with great schools and a 15 minute drive to work. My house is only 1,700 but my mortgage when I had one was $756 a month..... For reference last year I made in the six figures.
  3. I hate dealing with that tangled mess and broken bulbs , I'm a classic light guy C9 and C 7's . Wife wanted them up now as ahe knew if I don't get another buck early in gun it'll be awhile. Speaking of leaving them up I used to have two large homemade wooded candy canes that I screwed onto our fence around the patio. I would leave them up well past Chrismas and each time my wife or a neighbor would ask when they were coming down I added two weeks on..... One year I made to into July !
  4. No and no. I post 90 plus acres It's a good idea once a year to walk it and clear overhanging branches and such. We use preprinted aluminum signs that don't fade rip or blow off . The minimum distance between signs is I believe 660 feet , although I go much closer , and the key areas where guys are likely to cross some are ten yards apart....
  5. I put the Christmas lights up yesterday .
  6. I use Lone Wolf sticks , not cheap but light and easy to carry but most important rock solid hold to tree. Now yes with 3 using the way your planning you won't get real high , 15 feet or so if you space them well. For packing in there're hard to beat. You also will be stepping up onto stand not down to squeeze out all the height . I use them on stands I leave in place so I start with a couple of screw ins so that helps. Next year I may use 4 sticks per stand but that will require buying more. I killed my buck out of a three stick set up this year, I'm sure I was under 15 up due to tree shape.
  7. Is that the exit or entrance wound ? At 22 yards that would be very low for an entrance wound and pretty low for an exit. What did the arrow hit ? There lies your answer. It's dead and you found it, congrats .
  8. Here is one of mine , specially made for napping with out the wife finding you.
  9. Does the big tree come with it ?
  10. 25y/o daughter will be in this ladder stand , so I'll be down this path a couple hundred yards in a hang on, would not be my first choice but it's the nearest one to her . This is her first time in a stand other than practicing . She only gets out a couple times a year and when she was in college missed some years completely , so,she gets the best stand and I stay nearby . My stand is a rather low hang on just into the woods off a green field that they cross, it's the stand I killed my bow buck out of this year and blew it on a monster . I have trimmed some trees to allow more rifle shots out into the field as well. Oh and I put that ladder stand up by myself !

    Camp

10x10 ! Per luxury . Mine is 4x8 , here it is. I was putting s new roof on it when I took this shot, yes I sleep in it, fits cot and a Rubbermaid tote along with mice of course . Now I only camp out in it during the summer. Hunting I drive 32 miles each way.
  12. I figure since I'm going to shower and wash my hunting clothes I might as well use the scent free stuff that's it other then the wind. I read a few studies using police dogs and hiding guys in wood boxes out in fields , then spraying them down and doing all the scent control stuff , the dogs still ran right to the box that held the guy . Oh and so you don't think they followed the path the guy walked to the box, they had guys walk to each box climb in and stay a bit , then all left but one ,the path to and from was opposite from where the dog was released , dog ran right to that box each time. A guy all sprayed down inside a sealed plywood box and a dog with a much weaker nose than a deer ran right to it each time .
  13. I'm ok with OD weather, 41 in the morning warming to 60ish . Warm dry and comfortable is ok with me, I'm certain we'll see plenty of deer. Good luck .
  14. Just wait till your arm " falls asleep" .....
  15. So assuming your a road deputy , you pull people over for 56 in a 55 zone ?
  16. Yep,this Nov. is a hard one , I'll be at work 3 days. Had a nice beard going just shaved it to go back tomorrow. Life can be hard like that.
  17. I used to go way up. Now most of my hang on's are 15 feet or less. I killed my buck this year out of a stand that was around 13 feet up on a phone pole tree. In the rut when the bucks are stupid you could be standing on a garbage tote and kill one . Hey that might make a good pop out blind...
  18. Nice job ! How long did that take? I was going to try a European mount on mine but was unsure if I wanted to deal with the work. Thanks .
  19. Where I hunt it won't make one bit of differance , I hunt a large farm each time I come down something changed . Oh look they cut a few hundred acres of corn, oh look they plowed up that piece , oh look the farmer used his backhoe to push back 20 yards of brush for 300 yards along the sanctuary . Oh look he brush hogged half the bedding field..... I just used my leaf blower to make 200 yard long trails to stands, put up new ladder stands , dropped trees with my chain saw, I'm not one bit worried . Heck I'm thrilled !
  20. I saw Doc say to some mountain bikers " that looks like a lot of fun , have a great day". I saw Bubba and jmg343 hunting togather .
  21. Jmg343 this has been epic, in your honor I'm shooting a deer 1 minute early this year!
  22. Yes and no...,343 was a number he got many years prior to 911. So one could guess and be right but for the wrong reason.
