  1. Great job ! Great story ! Please keep posting your hunts and such. Oh btw not very many enjoy shooting 12 ga slugs..... Often there is a progression in shooting , starting with the .22 rifle . I broke my daughter in with the shotgun by starting with low brass shot, to learn the basic operation and trigger squeeze of the gun . Then onto slugs. Limbsaver makes some nice recoil pads .
  2. The young man is my friends son in Seattle. My friend is a traditional bow hunter and has killed deer, elk, caribou and a mountain lion with his recurve all from the ground, well the mountain lion was in a tree ! Although his son uses a compound he claims to still love him. How he killed this doe is a remarkable tale. My buddy has a friend who is a professional wildlife photographer , who's work has been in National Geographic along with countless other magazines , books, wildlife journals , he also bow hunts. He told my buddy that to get close to animals to photograph he doesnt act like a hunter ! When they see you don't try to hide or stalk , stay in the open and act disinterested . It may take hours but they get used to,you and move closer. So they are out in the open barren rolling land when they spot a small herd 200 yards out, so the hunters stand up straight even moving and stretching , the deer just watch. They stand there for and hour and a half, then as the deer move the two hunters parallel them. This goes on for hours, finally coming around a knoll they find the deer 60 yards away ,again wide open land. My buddy and his son turn away not paying any attention. Then my buddy walks directly away from the deer while his son stays put. Two deer break off the herd and follow !!! They come to 20 yards from the son who drills this doe ! I told him if I stepped into a field in NY with deer 200 yards away , they'd still be running ......
  3. Those who have hunted them may appreciate this pic. The girl is the daughter of my buddy's hunting partner in Washington state . She took him this season In Washington . That's a pretty darn good one !
  4. Or Tennessee and they don't tax my pension either . My nephew in Tenn. pays 2k in property taxes, his mom, my sister pays 20k on a smaller home here in NY. Plus the deer hunting is really good there, although that's not a big factor for me.
  5. I agree this years weather was fantastic ! I stayed warm ,dry and clean ! Never had to dry out clothes after coming home, car stayed clean, could hunt in jeans and a sweatshirt. The numbers taken off the farm are back up to 40 ish, my friends in Macedon and Bristol all took nice bucks and some doubling up on them. My windows are open and I'm wearing shorts on Dec.14!!! We are still deciding on moving down south year round or just buy a winter place, it's nice to get a taste of a warm winter . My folks would go down after Thankagiving, with this weather they could have stayed through Christmas .
  6. Predate you live on Canandaigua Lake ? Which end and side ? We own land here and the farm I hunt is a few thousand acres of posted managed land with limited numbers of hunters. Not saying I can get you on here but I know a few other nearby farms I used to hunt that might work out .
  7. Lots of nearby shots this morning, same thing last night ! Has to brake for deer on drive as well. Sipping coffee out of my Yedi in a blind I have not used yet. Turkey's making noise here too. Really here to pull this blind ,a stand , and camera.
  8. Easy nov. 6 to nov. 10 . Bow season it's no problem to fill My freezer then, and often have a crack a nice bucks .
  9. I can't add much I haven't had a bad gun season since the late '70s ' Tonight I saw ten deer in two hours . But i go where they are this time of year , I'm the thickest nastyest stuff I can find . Forget the open woods and fields get in the thick stuff and where they stage for darkness. I was sitting on a bucket in a spot I just picked out on my walk in . My bow and gun stands would be a waste of time in this part of the season . We all know the deers patterns change , so should yours .
  10. Have not been out on ten days or so crazy busy . 9 deer so far since 2:30. 3 I jumped on walk in, 4 doe ran by and in just blew it on 2 that were moving behind me in this thick stuff.
  11. Here's the thing , when a person continually posts that they follow the law , they won't shoot one minute outside of legal hours because it's the law and they follow the laws. Then they post they drive an atv illegally on the road , they're going to open themselves up to criticism to the hypocrisy . That whole glass house thing. Me I freely admit I break laws daily, I'm in violation of the safe act , own illegal knives , tomorrow I'll speed on the way to work, I've gone 20 years or more without having a car inspected, a big buck under my stand 5 minutes before legal light is dead, and I wouldn't mind burning a fatty right now.
  12. And the Troopers I know wave as I blow by them at 75 on 104, but I'm still breaking the law .
  13. I'm i sure it's insured ,licensed and registered for road use , and of course a dot approved helmet.

    Good Read

Lol , that's no " dirty little secret".
  15. More than one hunter . But myself bow tags, gun tag 2 doe tags then they issue 2 more second round, Farm has a couple dozen Dmaps that each Hunter gets two , plus signed over if one does that . It's easy to get that many or more tags.

    Ozonics

Well yes I agree, but the guy was saying his spot is to small or to few of stands to hunt the wind .
  17. It's an I phone bug , that Apple doesn't care to address .
  18. This year it's been UA , light sweat shirt, and a fleece zip up !

    Ozonics

I don't care how small a piece one hunts, there is a way to correctly hunt it for the wind.
  20. Heading down now . To a ladder stand across the road from my main spot . I have not even checked it out since last gun season , hope the strap is good....
  21. Back " in da day" we never staged for the police, just went in. I was on countless shootings before the cops, a couple with the shooter still there ,one a sawed off 12 ga placed in the mouth and fired by the girl friend . That was one soggy couch ....
  22. I don't mind a couple fresh inches ( watch it !) , good for picking out movement in the thick stuff and tracks tell a tale we can learn from. Very good for those marginal shots no one here ever makes, to follow the sparse blood trail . For those of us that drag deer out snow is good !
  23. Uncle Charlie , Harris rd . Just south of state rd a mile or so. Yes my bill at Tony's is going to be a record one this year. I have plenty of ground so on the last deer I said whole back straps , Tenderloins , steaks , no ground , the rest for Tony . I figured 15 pounds or so....
