  1. Great post! It sounds like you have a great appreciation for the outdoors and its inhabitants! Congratulations to both you and your mentors. It also sounds like you have a nice piece of private property so you can employ some management techniques and the deer aren't in jeopardy by extreme hunting pressure. ;-)
  2. Someday the bear's gonna call "enough" though...
  3. Saw some posts insinuating that there were issues posting pics so I figured I'd try one just for the heck of it. I figure if I could do a gif then no prob. I just happen to love this one.
  4. Heed the "get it looked at" advice. IF it's a rotor cuff injury and you don't have it looked at and taken care of, you're headed for SERIOUS trouble. It's not unmanly to go to a doctor, it's smart.
  5. Wow, getting land to hunt around S. Dutchess is brutal! Congratulations! Been trying door to door and letter campaigns for a LONG time, no bites. Nice nab. See if he'll give you exclusive access if you post it for him.
  6. When I said "bunk", that's just my own view of course. I'm sure a lot of guys and girls take the tables as gospel and have very good success. What's "right" for me doesn't mean it's right for everybody.
  7. I did that, still went from a 9G estimate to 25-30k when the time actually came - Be VERY careful! Speaking from experience, personally I'd buy something that already had electricity if I could do it over again. We eventually just said screw it and sold.
  8. Nope, pure bunk. Deer move when deer want to move, period. Get out every day you can and stay out all day rather than the out at 10:00 and back at 2:00 routine and your success rate WILL go up. You can't see 'em if you're sitting on your couch.
  9. Be VERY careful! The company in the area our property told us it'd be around 9,000 when I asked them before buying the property. That magically went to about 25,000 when I called them to actually do it. They've got so many "what ifs" it's rediculous. $$$ x number of feet, then how far back from the road? Oh, it's over xyz feet so it has to be buried (to code and inspected) and you need your own transformer. Oh, then there's the connect fee that you have to pay to the guy down the road so you can connect to that pole. Be VERY careful.
  10. I agree with Merlot. As far as the scent issue, given your description of the area, chances are they are so used to human scent that it's not an issue. And keep in mind the distance requirements: Question: How far from a building do I have to be to discharge my firearm? Answer: You cannot discharge a firearm or bow within 500 feet of any school, playground, occupied factory or church. You cannot discharge a firearm or bow within 500 feet of a dwelling, farm building, or structure unless you own it, lease it, are an immediate member of the family, an employee, or have the owner's consent.
  11. No excuses needed or warrented. He's a legal deer and will be nice and tasty. No matter how long you cook horns, they don't get tender and horn soup sux. Congrats again.
  12. The only thing that stops me from staying out dawn to dusk is if I need to drag one out.
  13. Congratulations! I agree, pics are in order.
  14. If I'm in the woods, my flip phone is off, period. I only carry it in case of some emergency that I need help. People are WAY too attached to their "smart" phones and texting.
  15. Agreed! But those were the parameters set
  16. One piece huh.... Stay afield all day. Despite what you'll be told, deer don't go to jail midday. They are actually able, and do move around.
  17. Nice deer! Congratulations!
  18. Nice pics! Not what I expected when opening the thread.
  19. I thought it sucked personally, I just didn't want to come right out and say that. That's what I was illuding to when I pointed out that it was about 8 1/2" low and 5 1/2" right. If I couldn't get a gun better than that, it'd be gone. My Mossy is dead nutz at 100 and will almost to same hole, given you know what slugs to use. I'd probably go for a 150 yard shot with it if pushed but 200 I'd pass on unless I was practicing b-ball lob shots or something.
  20. lol - had that as my sig line on the nahc site for quite a while.
