  1. Yes Wooly we are for any animal or land owner could yes get stuck with them and if not seriouly hurt at the time risk disease and death.. So all cautions should be taken. even when cleaning things up you see. like what yopu might think to be an empty bag
  2. BTW thanks for derailing something people should be considering when they drive by and see someones beer bottle or cheese puff plastic tub ,snapple bottle. instead of picking it up...Just so you can think OH I got her now! So sad
  3. Now do you see what you have resorted in makeing your self look like with that snide remark...
  4. Listen that stuff had been there for years and years..I'm not picking through human waste materials for anyone and I was in the legal on this . bad enough picking up beer bottle to realize they were some ones pzz bottle. We took away truck loads of stuff at our expense, would never have left it on out lands...that road side spot was a different situation...BTW I don't feel beat up on ,Id have to feel I did something wrong for that... and of anyone on here most should know I am a bit of a stickler on the law and I take a bit too much pride in my land.
  5. We had NO oil THEY lied to get the DEC here to harass us...Apparently they previous owner did some car reppairs and being in real estate they had had access to the property before we bought. They had seen a pile of oil filters in the woods..BTW those were the first things I had disposed of when I found them along with bathroom tiles a toilet ,sink ect ect. I didn't hide that fact from them and they thoroughly checked that area out first thing. I can go out and take picture of what is still left from that old dump I showed the DEC Take it up with them ..I have in the last few minute checked the DEC regulations and see some newer laws on tires but that site being what it is have typed several different searches and found little to find what laws are now...
  6. Same with us...they cut them down. River has a Dunstun Chestnut, I hope he gets to take his first deer from under it.
  7. Please stop showing your ignorance that entire thing is about dumping on the sides of a road .either town county or state if in the ditch ,or , private land which is all under the littering laws. NOW there are very few towns that are ordnance free or have few ,We are in one of those...private land disposal by the land owner does not fall under DEC regs unless as in the case of "oil" it could contaminate the ground water. It falls under town ordinances.. That said during the time this occured. So the next time you want to "prove me a liar" pull up what is relevant to what I said....
  8. You can say what ever you wish my dear but that is ALL fact. Now I am going to tell you straight up.... Get off your freaking high horse. I am the one that spent several hours with the DEC guys. I am the one that was just as shocked as the Albany guy to find out the dumping of ash laden burning barrels, old car tires collecting stagnate water , batteries, plastic blowing all over, old motors ect..ect..ect was legal under the eyes of the DEC with only this one point given.. The tires have to be in the numbers equal to the owners own vehicle replacements, something like 2 sets per vehicle per year. Now because your a young pup and this was when we first moved up here, thing might have changed since then. I wouldn't know, because I have cleaned up most of it...save the occasional beer bottle ,tooth brush(to my surprise) and too much light bulb glass that floats to the surface in odd places. I do not appreciate being called a liar
  9. That was the solution...and BTW the DEC does nothing with personal land dumping it Is under town law...How do I know this..Well One crazy neighbor that was pizzed we bought our first piece of land decided to "fix " us , see they THOUGHT they had first options on the place. What they didn't know was the owner had a real dislike for them...something about breaking up a marrage. So they called the DEC and said we had an oil pit on our place. Well DEC had to send out two specialists. One from Albany, who didn't appreciate the drive. When they were done searching the place and hearing what was REALLY going on they 1. complimented me on our land and up keep 2. apologized for having to go through the place messing up my only day off Then I said well if you want to see a dump what can be done about the one another neighbor had right on the line in the corner of our place... They checked it out... house hold products, many old tires, cleaning and many milk jugs, plastic bins, old appliances and several burning barrels. The hazmat guy was pretty much outraged but the other DEC officials said "sorry that is all legal stuff"...We would have to go through the town and only if the town has a dumping ordinance. So save your shame on me's when I have spent literally months cleaning up what the prior pigs in this area dumped on all these lands.. Hell that same neighbor had to have the bomb squad with their robots come up here because their kids uncovered...wait for it.... a partially buried box of TNT put their by...what for it...The town highway dept after getting the previous owners permission. It was lit on fire by the bomb squad..how much you think that cost the tax payers? So my taking our back hoe and buring that garbage where it had lain for years put no shame on me ...We did what was OK'd
  10. Not that I'm assuming people here litter...Don't pass on the litter you find...Man our place and camp gets hit hard with guys littering ..Our road side looks like a garbage dump..Though we do have a regular that drives our road picking up bottles. Camp it's like they do so just to let us know they were there..camp fires too Anyways this link shows a good reason to clean up...We took a pick up truck for of genessee shorties off our place and I still find them on occasion. We had to take the backhoe and bury a land fill of stuff that we found along the road when we bought our lower property..there was too much to remove and it had things like hygiene products in it...years of peoples household garbage. DEC had to remove a plastic jug from a bears head this year..weeks on it, still trying to figure that one out...him still being alive https://www.qdma.com/someone-tossed-bottle-woods-killed-nice-buck/
  11. This morning while on here and having coffee. Love that food saver...I wash ,stem and cut the berries then place them on a cookie sheet(flexible one) . put them in the freezer. Quick freeze, then measure and vac seal.. no liquid ,nice tight seal ...I love the smell of strawberries...
  12. LOL.... did you say " No he's just in time out for eating my shrubbery "....
  13. deer definitely like burned regrowth...grouse like grassy areas ..though all the Grouse we use to have were woodland and second growth dwellers. The snakes will love it for the rodents will thrive..rabbits, fox, hawks, owls...ect,ect
  14. That was just beyond the definition of stupid...absolutely mind boggling...
  15. I used your name because I used your quotes, I never said anyone was bashing ,never used that word. I said insulting. I also said that the list was repeated through out the thread ,not just your post. You took what I said the way you took it done and over. BTW I'll never be that kind of GUY...lol
  16. I did know ,though I would think most non Catholics....and many who are, these days, would have a big problem....
  17. If your thinking about a cross bow you should be asking recurve or compound...there is a big difference on 2 levels, ability of draw weight and ease of fix. you will need to have a press or go to a shop to replace strings and they wear out faster than a traditional compound bow. As with a recurve all you need do is replace it by hand and it can be done in the field if necessary. I went with the compound and can draw the 170 #'s with just some effort... though do it wrong and you've seriously messed up your back. So that needs to be on your mind... drawing your bow in a regular trees stand? I'm not sure I could in my commercial ones but not a problem in my build ones...definitely easier to spot and stalk. Though using a sling and walking in REMEMBER you are now wider and can hit trees, always need to be mindful of where your fingers are...many a thumb have been shaved of width by not minding where it was during the shot...even with the guards. They are front heavy and less expensive ones and recurves are wide, this needs getting use to. My kills have all been very close so I can't speak to distance and bolt penetration...I do know if you don't have lighted nocs and shoot a deer...look a good distance away from the deer if you don't find the bolt right away...Even from an elevated position and close, the distance that bolt goes after passing through the deer is surprising!
  18. Yes they do. I will wait until after this next rain to skim disc those areas again, after liming and I'll have the drag behind the disc to further yank out the rooted weeds...I do need to go down and contend with some thistle I found trying to get a foot hold...normally I yank it but there is too much of it and daisies in the ww those will get pulled and all others around weed whacked. Stinking things they are everywhere. I do hope that test hay field works out for I am looking forward to planting some larger areas in it next spring.
  19. I've given up on even summer plots...I mowed them except the WW. Can't spray with daily down pours. The one I did early grew back in. So today I disced up weeds and all along the road frontage strip and from Rivers blind to the end of laneway plot. Even with liming last year the soil is acrid smelling. I dropped 4 bags of lime there and 2 in the old clover fruit tree plot. That will need spraying more lime, and moss killer. Then worked for a fall clover/alfalfa ww plot front will be turnips / clover. Lane way. A mix....Just not a good plot year here. Much more lime is needed all over...The hay plot is greening up,fear with lots of weeds. Will have very few acorns..good apples. No corn a lot less clover, tons of beech nuts. I'm not going to worry about it..I can't control the weather so I'll just do what I can...drop lots of trees for one thing..so much canker ,so many dead and dying maple. It's a good thing I have so much wild clover growing around the place.berry patches are doing great and expanding..excellent feed and cover.
  20. So you still took it as some sort of attack and got nasty....It wasn't,I won't appologize for my opinion ,that wasn't trolling . Your responce didnt surprise me.
  21. No...actually near a 100 acre homestead we nearly bought years ago. Mr B switched companies in the middle of nogotiations and we decided to back out....Glad, skeeter must be nasty there. Back road in Wayland not too far from pokeymoonshine..
  22. Kill a few doe...don't get hurt, make clean kills with quick recoveries, enjoy myself, and get at least one nice surprise.
  23. Not very big Almost black top shell with orange belly and orange stripes down neck...got him just before an older lady and gentlemen rounded the curve. Had my flashers on and waved at them but they werent slowing down. Scooped it up and stepped back behind my car..swamp is on both sides so I placed it in the grass in the direction it was headed.
  24. Big boom..your right they dont last and that is why this country is littered with empty delapitated shopping malls..who made their big money and leftthe area..developers. who rode hi ans over extended to get the rug yanked and end up in worse shape then before...the workers,construction,service,sales... EVERY single issue has a light at the end of it's tunnel...not every light is a bright one.
  25. There it is...... repeated several times: 1. it takes more skill 2. it takes more knowledge 3. it takes more patience 4. its more challenging 5. All young deer are easy. Whats a young deer? Apparently 3 1/2 and younger Not picking on you tree guy it's just that your quotes are a prime example of what has been a repeat theme in this thread. As I said before.... types of put downs without realizing it... The thought that all 31/2 year olds were easy hunts for the ones that got them, thus lesser deer then a 41/2 ..lol Assumptions that the "trophy" guys put more of everything into getting their deer. It's there in black and white several places in here...
