Not a model 1922. I have one. The 1922 has an extended 2 piece top slide, and a grip safety, and is quite a petite little thing. As well, this piece has a single action exposed hammer, 1922 is striker fired. It looks like possible wartime production though....pretty rough finish, and I believe a german proof mark on the frame. is there a caliber marked on it? sometimes if not on the slide the FNL will have it stamped on the bbl.

My camp has no running water. for years we just collected rainwater into two 65 gallon bbls, We just used it for flushing the toilet and wash water. We wouldnt run them dry if we were carefull....no flush for a pee. This year I found a heavy angle iron rack that I am able to elevate bbls from. the first one acts as a settingl tank then feeds into a 2nd one, which I just finished plumbing to the toilet. The wife is apprecitive, but unless we are in a rainy spell, same rule....no flush for a pee. It looks like what you have will give plenty of water, as long as the water supply is above the outlet. And we have happily learned a quick wet down, fast lather with campers soap and rinse to suffice....usually uses less than about 3 gallons.

I saw the first one of the season crossing the road yesterday. Gotta say, I have always been a turtle fan. They seem to be a bit of an underdog. Just the same though, I am keeping my open for a nice big snapper for soup. I have to check on the season dates though, still too early, and you need a BIG un.

Cool. We had a Bison ranch up the road from us for a number of years, but it shut down as many of the exotic species ranches did, back in the 90s.

The lake is decieving. From the shore it often looks smooth out in the middle. When you go to cross you find that it is quite rough, or the wind picks up and makes it that way. If i remember right, it is only about 3 miles wide (compared to Oneidas 7 miles + at the widest point) but it is long, and depending on the wind direction she can get nasty. A bunch of years ago during the then annual duck hunters association perch derby , I was talking with a few guys who were still celebrating the previous nights adventure. One of them took up the (very drunkenly thought of ) challenge of rowing across the lake with only one paddle! It was well into the night but the guy called from a house on the other shore...he made it! I remember it was well towards the southern end, so it was narrower, but just the same...

A true purist abhors the thought of anything but a dry fly....but for the rest of us....depends on what is biting as mentioned already. I have to admit I dont have a chance to get out much with my fly rod, and when i do I am as likely to be having fun with panfish, bass, etc. As a first round try for almost anything, a muddler minnow is a frequent toss. As someone else mentioned, tough to go wrong with a hairs ear nymph too. Keep an eye on local fishing reports to see if they mention any particular hatches, thus their matching dry fly. They are very consistent each year as to when they hatch.

I havent done it, but have talked with some backpacking travelers/treckers who have, and have seen this come up on other sites. You can NOT fly with any sort of fuel. Gotta do some homework on that. Suggestion in a pinch... Alcohol stoves (non pressurized) use denatured alcohol you can get at any hardware/walmart store. Do not use the type you buy in drugstores...it is too denatured. Hardware store supply 60-70 % is good. You can also find coleman type fuel at almost all hardware/department stores., or a good multifuel stove will burn unleaded gas, and is probably the cheapest and most reliable source. If you get a new stove, leave plenty of time to play with it before hand, and best have a new unused fuel cell to travel with.

I aint sayin it was me, but when I was much younger and foolish we used to shoot the tails off of squirrels...We had a whole woods of tail less squirrels running around for a few years. Mebbe …?

Aint no thing as low salt salt potatoes! Actually, we keep a bag on hand alll the time, and only some of them get used for salt potatoes....You can always use it on your steps. sidewalk, etc.

I have a Smith model 28- it is the service version of the 27, not as pretty though. Wonderful pistol, smooth as silk, great accuracy. They and the 27s are goinig for mint nowadays though! I remember dad paid 200.oo for it used in 1979. You may want to look at Smith 686...the L frame. They are similar to the Python in that they have the bbl underlug which assists with shooting alot. A friend has one I am waiting to buy off of him. I dont need it, but I will suffer.... I saw at Gander Outdoors a week or two ago, the Cicero location, about 1/2 dozen Smith .38s, model 10-5, for about 280.00. probably south american police trade ins. They certainly showed wear, but were mechanically very sound. I was seriously looking at one for a woods knock around.

Make sure it isnt pressure treated lumber first...no painting/staining that (last I knew).

Back in the late seventies there are some areas we would go to that would be bumber to bumper. Thank goodness that has pretty much ended. Just the same, be more aware on opening days/week ends. I would be sure to try to scout areas out, and like was mentioned previously, the further in you go the fewer folks. When scouting, look for signs of tree stands....scratches on likely tree stand sites, litter, etc. Some times (although not supposed to be done) you will find tree stands still in the woods. Although I own my own 10 acres, I still largely hunt surrounding state land. I seldom bump into anyone. If you see someone, give a friendly wave and wander away. It isn't unusual for someone to be willing and happy to chit chat a bit. that is a good time to let them know where you are and find out where they are centering their activities. Just the same, folks parked along the road usually are happy to chit chat for the same reasons.

Funny, I never really realized it but me too. But the funny part is other than just "knowing" it, I could never mathematically convert the sizes. Forgotten most of it now though.

For the past approx.20 years an RN, currently Home care RN with the VA, before that orthopedic trauma nurse for 10 years, before that, machinist, sporting goods store management/sales, carpenter, 10 yrs vol. firefighter/ emt.

Car injuries frequently result in head injuries, which they seldom recover from ….I found a barred owl in the same situation, but it died while I was there:(.

In the spring they are all hungry.

Sadly, a lot of the papermills that utilized so much of NYS forest for pulp have been closed down for lack of demand. Housing market is down, just little demand. In the Western Adks foothills over recent years they have been removing the old paper mills in Lyons falls and surrounding areas. The loss of newspapers readership has gone along ways in this. It is amazing how huge a market it was, but you can look at the CNY Syracuse based Post Standard for an example. they have gone almost entirely on line, and the paper they produce now is a shadow of what it once was for lack of readership.

Processed stuff, especially smoked, should age just fine. cut meats past two years, I have eaten it and never gotten sick, but it certainly isn't first rate.
