I'm not a crossbow fan. In fact, the reason I enjoy compound so much is the difficulty in being successful. I really enjoy the sport of it. Whether it's a crossbow, crossgun, bazooka or a anything else, one thing is sure, the crossbow is much easier than a compound, just as a rifle is to a shotgun. Now if you are handicapped or senior citizen absolutely you should be able to use it during archery season. I'm fortunate, I'm a healthy young man and prefer the more challenging weapon. To quote Tom Hanks, "It's supposed to be hard. If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard ... is what makes it great." So true! Btw, A League of Their Own, great movie!

More deer then we think are shot after Dec. 1st. Just imagine the ones that aren't reported or posted on media. Too much stress and pressure this late in the season. Bucks have run hard for a month plus and need to eat and recover. Doe are pregnant and starting to feed. With winter just around the corner, these deer are susceptible. I don't know how to to please everyone, not sure if it's possible. I just think gun season is too long.

This will be another massive, multipage hot topic debate. My opinion, archery season remains start date of Oct. 1st but ends the on Sunday, the week of Thanksgiving. Regular season then starts on a Monday like in the past goes through (Thanksgiving) but concludes on the last day of November. This would be about a 10 day gun season. No late muzzleloader or bow season, you can opt to hunt muzzleloader during regular season. Makes little sense to follow gun with gun. Simple and easy but effective and fair. Crossbow 1 week, Nov. 1st-7th.

Insulated hunting boots

This is my next boot! Been doing some research. -
Congrats! Be proud, very hard to do this late for so many reasons... Awesome job!

I'm sitting here sad and selfishly thinking to myself, im so fortunate to still have my father. Im so very sorry for you and your family's loss. Im happy you are finding some peace in these unfortunate circumstances. As you perfectly stated, we don't know when our time is up. We can however, hug our loved ones more. It was nice of you to share this with us, hang in there my friend, we are always here if you need us...

My buddy smoked a giant yesterday afternoon.

Very nice mass. Good looking buck! Congrats... -
Awesome buck! If I was lucky enough to have an option, I'd take ten like that, over having just one 150. Doesn't matter what it scores, plus an archery harvest, very cool!

Buffalo radio station having "show us your rack" contest
Taylormike replied to turkeyfeathers's topic in Deer Hunting
Wow!!! All my racks put together don't equate to these monsters. Awesome, NY seems to have a healthy deer herd. -
My Brother and I have 24 acres in Wirt-9p. We do extremely well. I passed 7 bucks with the bow and took a nice 8. My Brother passed 5 bucks a took a doe. I passed many doe. My neighbor took 3, big 10, spike and doe. I agree, lots of big deer.

I haven't applied for DMP in years. In my area we have been fortunate enough to take doe during archery. If I don't get meat in the freezer, I don't want to have that option to take my rifle out and tag a doe. This is how I feel. Friends and other family members can do what they choose on the property.

Absolutely uncalled for and not appropriate. I had a naciuos feeling in my stomach. That's someone's son, father, husband, friend. For this to happen within a family is so much more traumatic. I'm not sure you could ever really recover from this. Try to have a little empathy.

Exactly what I do. Lightly rinse after defrosting.

I guess I'm not missing much then? I haven't been to camp since Nov. 15th. -
If AR was implemented throughout the entire State, I would imagine many more bucks would be taken illegally and not reported. Even worse, I'm sure some would shoot and upon walking up realize "oh no, it's not a legal buck. Now what? Are these deer left to rot? I never hunted PA or AR zones so not sure of the shortcomings.
-
I don't even know what to think. Hope he has full recovery. Exactly why I get nervous in unfamiliar territory. Another reason I miss archery season.
-
I'm against it. Shorten the gun season, get rid of rifles. The deer population will increase as will the big boys.
-
There are many things we the hunters and the DEC can do for QDM. IMO, one simple implementation is do not allow the gun season for 3-4 weeks. That's a long season with such an incredibly lethal weapon. Also, in some areas go back to shotgun, stop approving all the rifle zones. I know someone last year that shot 4.5 year old 153" buck in Dec. with .308 at 190 yards. That buck lives on without that rifle. Just be happy with what you decide. My Brother and I have passed anything under a 6 for over 4 seasons. My Dad will shoot anything, he doesn't put the time in we do. We hope he is successful at whatever he chooses. There is a lot of deer to go around. BTW, we only have 24 acres. My neighbors shot a spike and 2 4's. It is what it is.

My waterproof boots...aren't.
Taylormike replied to Core's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
We all have our own wants and needs. My favorite boot to hunt in is my rubber Lacrosse 800g boots. Although I get cold on mornings in the 30's, I love how streamline they are. I hate bulky and I hate laces. The aspect I prefer most of all with my rubber boots, my pants either tuck into them or bunch up on the top of the boot. I never have wet or muddy pant legs. With this being said, my 5 year old lacrosse finally failed, sole pulled completely apart. I threw them out last week. I think after Xmas I'm buying the Lacrosse Alphaburly Pro 18 1000g. I do have 1600g Irish Setter that are great but I only use in sub 30 degree days. -
Gorgeous buck. He has a lot of mass.
-
Pretty ingenious I must say. However, we use a two wheel dolly aka, buck buddy, works like a charm.

Chris, not something to argue or fight about but I believe it is entrapment, which is illegal. Go get some criminals, it's all about revenue and zero about anyone's safety. -
I've tried it with mixed results, my land is not conducive for the use of decoys though. You need open area where the deer can spot the decoy and not be surprised. On 11/17, I set up my decoy over my game camera in a wooded lot, my private 25 acres. I'll post results when I retrieve SD card. I rarely hunt gun if I'm successful during archery, that's why it'll be awhile before I get the card.

Here's something you don't see everyday
Taylormike replied to ANTLERS's topic in Hunting Related Pictures
Wtf, that's weird! Perfect title, definitely something I've never seen. -
Just incredible, great job. The only problem, if we ever have the misfortune of needing deer search we will be secretly disappointed if and when it's not Luna.
