  1. He'll be missed by many....RIP Van.
  2. Looks like he bought a TriStar Raptor 12ga. I never heard of them so at this point I don't think I can add anything to the conversation that will help without rocking the canoe......... Ok........I just did a real quick Google of them and they sound like a decent gun for the money. My advice (worth what it'll cost you) is to take a pile of different loads out and blast away. Low and high brass and see how it cycles. A report will be expected here at 7am Monday. Have fun!!
  3. I don't want you to regret making this post but............. Why would you buy a gun that only shoots high brass? Do you ever expect to shoot it for practice? Shooting high brass for clay birds would get awful tiring. What gun these days is only high brass anyway? Why not a pump gun that' will digest anything? Take the new to you semi auto back, get a pump gun and rule the world..........................................
  4. Forgive my ignorance, you do eat stripe bass? Congrats!
  5. Cutco salesman got scared off? Or real dumb daylight criminals? Plate number, plate number and plate number. Nothing else matters.......
  6. Does that ball come off? If not then you need to carry two knives and that just doubles your chances of losing one in the field. A 3" blade with a good sharp point for the "O" on the license plate is all I desire.
  7. Oh.....and I rarely split the pelvis and NEVER "bleed em out" by slitting the throat.
  8. I generally start at the sternum, gently (and I mean GENTLY) start just at the bottom of the rib cage making damn sure as to not getting the knife into the stomach. Just the tip of the knife sliting south between my middle and index fingers of my left hand, knife of course in my right hand. As I get lower into the groin (?) area then I'll do the bung hole thing. Coring it perfectly is key here for me. Get it good and free then continue south to about the pelvic bone area/penis thingy. Cut the diaphragm around the chest area below rib cage, yerk out stomach and all the goodies that'll come, then the lungs, heart & windpipe. Then I'll get the bladder and turd chute. Flip the beast over and remove all blood, mud and assorted goodies that slipped by me. Bag the heart and liver if the conditions are right, stash them in the chest cavity and start thumbing a ride. I never tie the bladder off; just pinch it the best I can and cut it off and toss away. I don't sweat a mistake with the bladder like I do with the stomach, gawd do I hate a gut shot or a slight slice with the knife that leaks stomach contents................... I guess that's about it for me. Sometimes things go in a different order, you just never know.
  9. The neck shot isn't even worth talking about IMO.
  10. Hmm.... I just might have some PayPal money stashed away, thanks again.
  11. PM me and I'll send you one, gratis. A strap, NOT a para cord. It'll be in the mail tomorrow.
  12. The camera was just a little outa' focus. Heck, we were bouncing on the rough water........................
  13. Thanks all. Phade; any place special to get those Browning cams?
  14. They better save up, those soles don't last for sh!# in real life.
  15. Good heavens wouldn't para cord work just fine? It's all I've ever used...............................
  16. Excellent video Mike!!! It brings back fond fond memories for me. Hopefully we'll be hunting them in New York pretty soon!! Back when Jenny & I were younger pups................................. Man was that a hot day! Its been a bunch of years since I've gone dove hunting but maybe again soon......
  17. I've probably posted this before (or somebody else has) but these days, what camera gives you the best bang for the buck? I like 20 second videos and sound. Both of my current cams have sound but only one works for some reason....?? Both are Bushnell and other than that little glitch I'm pleased with them. Sooooo, what say the masses? All reply's welcome of course.
  18. I opened the barn door and ALL the cameras are out.............that'd be TWO total cameras. One in a proven spot and another way back in (further than I usually do) but on a bulldozed trail I stumbled onto during shed season. All the trails looked heavily used due to all the rain in the last 5 weeks or so. Not the usual dusty trails this time of year. I reckon I should score another camera or two. I think I'll start a thread and get your thoughts..........
  19. Take what Pygmy and Dinsdale said to the bank. NOT just because I consider them friends but because they have been there and really done that. I feel like I've had a bunch of experience but it pales compared to those two fellows.
  20. Dang the rider is lucky!
  21. No experience here on catching & killing turtles but I had a friend that did it and did make the turtle soup. It was unreal how good it was. What sticks in my mind was the incredible amount of work that went into it. From finding the snappers to killing and cleaning them, gathering up all the different ingredients and then the preparation to get it to the stove top. The final product was probably close to 5 gallons of a chowder that was to die for and I don't say that without considerable experience in the food consumption dept.
  22. No cams out for me yet. Maybe Sunday but not likely.....
