  1. G is correct. I forgot the critters crawling on my critters aren't ticks, but "keds". I Googled "deer keds" and up comes a picture of a deer wearing sneakers. Honest...........................
  2. My deer (the ones shot in warmer weather) were loaded with them......
  3. You don't want to use a bronze brush with cooper solvents, only nylon brushes. You install your bore guide, apply some solvent to the brush and slide it all the way down and out of the barrel, then you can apply another few drops of solvent for the return trip. Do that 10-20 times after the first two applications then dry bore with multiple clean dry patches. All this is assuming you are cleaning a bolt gun.
  4. 2007 Bowtech Guardian, 29" 70lb. Right now it is drawing 63lbs as I have had some shoulder issues and that is why I'm selling. The bow is in excellent condition and I have used it to kill a number of deer. The string was just put on in the summer by Lorreto's in North Collins. He made it for the now and has a G5 peep and silencers. No sights or rest, only a Kwikee Kwiver, string silencers, G5 peep and a nice soft case are included. I had an HHA sight and QAD rest on it but they went on my new 60lb bow. $325
  5. That's the closest post so far. "Shooting 100% copper bullets"? You will need a copper solvent, nylon brush, good quality one piece cleaning rod, REAL gun cleaning patches (they aren't that expensive) powder solvent (you have that) some gun oil and a healthy dose of elbow grease. A rod guide is also nice to have.
  6. My CDL does not have the DBM, it has the hindged floor plate. The blueing is very nice, current ADL guns are not as nicely finished. The stock on a CDL has a satin finish and is quite appealing as is the lack of rifled sights on the barrel. The older BDL guns were great but these days I'd gladly take a CDL and have! SPS is rougher than a cob........got one of those also.
  7. Could be the strategic placement of the gun OR a quartering shot resulting in no exit OR a bloodless exit???? Hopefully the OP chimes in.........
  8. Oh wait.......I meant FedEx store.
  9. I know what you mean. I have a friend who refers to some deer as retards and it drives me nuts. I have another friend who treats dead spring gobblers like a piece of shit. Maybe I need new friends? I have a book on turkey hunting that means a lot to me. It was written by John M McDaniel and titled "Spring Turkey Hunting, The Serious Hunter's Guide" I bought my copy in 1990. On page page 68 the author titles a section "PORTRAIT OF A SPRING GOBBLER HUNTER". It is probably about 1200 words and is very powerful piece and changed the way I look at turkey and deer. If I could bring it to this discussion I would but typing approx. 1200 words ain't in the cards Although many on here may not be interested, I think you might be Belo. Maybe tomorrow I'll see if my buddy at the local UPS store could make a decent reproduction of the text and I could scan it then PM it to you without having the copyright police knock on my door. OP......sorry for the derailment.
  10. If I called you dumb, would that be disrespectful to you?
  11. The insurance industry has much to do with all deer management, especially bait & shoot.
  12. They did it for many years in Amherst and surrounding towns. I'm sure it was quite expensive considering salaries for full time police officers that did nothing but bait & shoot for months, firearms with silencers, night vision equipment, ATV's and other gear including cold weather dudes. Oh yea, and bait! It was an effective way to lower the numbers fast and with as little interruption to daily routines of the residents. They were heavily insured in case of a problem and they did have one that I am familiar with. Now that numbers are down, archers could certainly help control the population but as of now that hasn't happened anywhere in our section of NYS. I'm sure the sharpshooters lowered the numbers in Irondequoit and hopefully the archers are doing their job to maintain a sustainable level of deer. Talk to me about the free donuts & coffee, where & when?
  13. Looks like a big deer from that half assed picture. <grin> Seriously he does look big??
  14. WTH, he wasn't bitching or saying he was unhappy. He merely asked a question regarding what is considered a decent spread.
  15. Well, It's over. Ontario County first EVER rifle season is in the books. I didn't hear of any accidents, did you? How about Wayne County? They had their first rifle hunt also. Any issues with either area?? How about the other region 8 & 9 counties, any issues you have heard of? (This quiz will NOT be graded)
  16. Dumb is a disrespectful word not fitting any young whitetail deer. I've heard young deer called retarded, stupid, dumb etc. It always bothers me....................... I'll sometimes say a rutting buck was "dumb" but that is said lovingly!
  17. Those of us that still use it will be inhaling the wonderfully aromatic, alluring, essential and sexy fumes of Hoppe's #9 in the coming weeks as we clean our tools of the trade. I use other much more effective (and horribly strong odors) solvents for my barrels to get the copper fouling out but Hoppe's #9 gets the nod for powder residue, mud and blood from metal parts. Tis the season.......................grins!
  18. Sorry to hear about your stock. I dropped my bow out of the tree last year, DOH! All rifle/ML barrels should be covered with electrical tape to avoid those blockages.
  19. Should have an antlerless tag also......
