  1. Lots of good information herein. You guys have it nailed and there are many ways to skin this cat.......... One thing I didn't see mentioned that can really help on those cold & windy days are a good pair of gaiters: http://www.kenetrek.com/gaiters.asp My gaiters are from Cabela's but I think are discontinued. I wear a lot of Patagonia, Minus 33, Ulfrotte (Smartwool) and of course my King Of The Mountain wool. About 5 years ago I bought a coat from Cabela's after a horrible stretch of cold, rainy and windy days during NY & PA gun seasons. I think the called it the Whitetail Hunters jacket, made of their (waterproof) MTO50 fabric and insulated with some good stuff. It has zippered pockets EVERYWHERE, inside & out!! A hood and covered zipper have come in handy also. I now rarely need a rain coat and it is extremely warm in the coldest weather. The zippered pockets keep all my stuff secure if I'm carrying the coat in my hand or it is strapped to my climber for the hike in or out. It's a bit noisy but I can deal with that as it is only worn during gun season.
  2. Details please; gun, bullet, load, scope, distance (100yds I presume) etc.
  3. Inside spread (greatest point between main beams) is the number that interests me. Congrats on your buck!
  4. Of course mornings are good. Deer need to move especially in this cold snowy weather. Mornings, mid day and afternoon our all good depending on your stand location.
  5. If he said Marshall Dillon I bet you'd get it!

  12. I killed one at 240 yards last Monday in PA. It worked just fine......
  13. A couple doe from the second weekend............ 9pt last Saturday.......... An 8pt that came by prior to the 9pt........ I shot these deer plus a doe in PA this past Monday with the .243 and 80gr Barnes TTSX bullets.
  14. Today I canned for the first time! Last week I got a 16qt unit from Walmart. My father had some quart jars so I did 5 of them up, boy that takes afair amount of meat to fill them! Exactly what I was looking for, an alternative to my regular routine. Them smell that came out of it as it cooked away was awesome. Tonight I went and bought a case of Mason pint jars and they'll get some action tomorrow as I have a doe from PA to get taken care of. Can't wait to dive into it!
  15. You really don't need much room at all. I've seen pics on other web sites of guys reloading benches and they are tiny. A small desk or table of some sort to mount the press on (some presses are easily made portable like the harrell's I have) and the rest of the stuff is pretty small. Grab a scale, press, dies, caliper and a PILE of other little do-dads and your in business. <grin> Buy used stuff, no hurries......................
