I shoot it in my 223 improved. My load is 29.5gr witha 50gr Hornady VMax. It scoots right along! Meters awesome, nice small grains.

I'd say your in the ballpark with those figures, IMO. Most of my guns (rifles) are on the light side. I just got a Sako 25-06, put a Leupold VariX 3.5x10 on it and that thing needs WHEELS. It is heavy. Haven't put it on the scale yet, maybe I'll check it tonight............

Funny, they look a bit like a Slick Trick. You get what you pay for............ I wouldn't trust the shot of a lifetime on a monster buck or a slam dunk on a fawn to a cheap knock off broadhead. YMMV. Hoping for the best.

The bullet manufacturers books are good. Read anything and every thing you can find. Plenty of good ideas in all the books. Differing opinions on some things like the post above that says all you need is a neck sizer die. That might be good for him but most other people and VERY knowledgeable ones always full length size all the time. Lots of great info on line of course too.

We hunted out west (Colorado & Wyoming) a bunch of years back in the late 80's and early 90's. He has let me hunt his property since he bought it in '87. I don't bow hunt it, only some gun and LOTS of spring turkey. This deer in this picture I killed at his place during the late ML season a bunch of years ago. I went and got Tom and told him to bring his camera because I new that the conditions were perfect for some great subject photos for reference for a painting or three. I think one of them from this buck even made it to the cover of Traditioal Bowhunter Magazine. Although the guy in the painting wasn't holding a ML, NOW he had a recurve!!

Light recoil? Well, it appears as I'm becoming a big wussy. Damn that 25-06 Sako I got over the summer seems to kick pretty good! I'm only shooting the 100gr NBT and the gun is HEAVY. The funny thing is I shoot some very light guns in the 243, 7mm-08 and even the 300WSM. All except the 300WSM seem to recoil less than the heavy 25-06! No problem, just an observation. Maybe all the trigger time with the 223 Improved has me turning shy?!?!

As a couple VERY knowledgeable people have said, 223 ROCKS! Soooo many reasons to choose it. It'll kill deer all day long and is a blast to shoot. I built a 223 Improved a few years ago and can't put it down.

Tag management is important! Gotta have the right tags left for the late season.

I'd like to add that I don't own a tumbler and haven't had any trouble yet, and don't anticipate any! You can get all kinds of different things to clean up the outside of the cases and do it by hand. (I only clean the outside of the necks/mouths) If money is tight, don't bother with a tumbler, put it towards something else like a couple bullet manufactures books. I think John Barsness has a real good DVD that might help also.

Both pics I posted are not from this year. We'll see how things go. I've killed everything from a one horn spike to an 11 pointer. Each and EVERY one is special in its own way. At the time I killed each one I was excited, anxious and thankful. I enjoy seeing a big buck and occasionally killing one. They'll come if YOU PUT YOUR TIME IN. Plain & simple. If you think you "deserve" to kill a big buck for some reason, fill me in. If the timing is right, a 4pt or 6pt is going to be the right buck for me. Sure, I pass some, bow and gun season but I'll kill what I want to, depending on landowner requests and the law. (Pennsylvania 3 pt to a side)
