Advice for equipment needed to make food plots

Goos, what are you looking to plant? -
Small plot / maximum tonnage?
Zag replied to stubborn1VT's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
That small of a plot you have to go perennial and do not plant annual. I planted annually in that small of a plot once and it was wiped out in no time with no regrowth. I'd also go a clover chicory alfalfa mix. -
Like lawd said. I've heard about them tying a wounded one to a tree branch and it works like a charm. Never hunted them tho. Kind of a weird bird for me.

hahah, use to love that as a kid

Dominic the donkey...jk.... too tough to call but I've played a lot of Alabama xmas songs ( angels & christmas in Dixie). My wife has converted me to Dolly and Kenny Rogers amass songs. Alan Jacksons let it be Christmas is pretty damn good to.

Advice for equipment needed to make food plots
Zag replied to goosifer's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Depends on what your planting. Most small seeds just need good seed to soil contact. For my small plots I use my garden tractor and a York rake to scratch up the dirt. Hook that up to the utv and you will be done in no time. -
Prayers sent my friend

I can't answer. Game time decision I guess.

Sadly I fund them a pretty penny for cell service each month but cell coverage is better than the rest.

Yeah those are the ones that have caught me a few times over the years during bow season, they snort a thousand time and I wish it was gun season so I could shut her up!
-
I wouldn't be surprised if they make us all take a refresher class. I constantly have to take refresher courses for my job. Maybe that would help?

Insulated hunting boots
Zag replied to a_finelli's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
I did too on thanksgiving for 79 bucks, they said on backorder when I grabbed them, 2 weeks later they said sorry we can't get them, I had to throw a fit to get the same boots in a different camo pattern. -
If your area is fields and blocks of woods find trails from bedding to feed. If your hunting big woods is much different. Our big woods property has mature oak trees over most of it so they can feed almost anywhere making it tough to hunt and setup cams. Bedding you still can narrow down but if you don't have much bedding they probably herd up elsewhere making it tough to inventory bucks. Looks for blocks of pines and low cover areas that they can browse on during deeper snow.

I usually pass up the big mature doe and find the one that's not to small and not to big. I think they taste a little better and I want the mature doe for breeding. The mature bucks know where to find them.

Henrietta and Victor do, but not sure about how much meats they have, although I got my turkey there. I'd call before heading up

Windy and freaking to cold for December here. Ill turn in my man card cuz I wouldn't have hunted today.
-
Sorry for your loss, ill take that exit vs just about anything else.

2nd rut, if the does around I'd say pretty good. I has two bucks trailing two doe this afternoon.

Thanks, I like that they have taller ones than the dec. I have found norways and whites 2-3ft for $12 dollars locally. I'm ok paying more if it gets me taller trees faster. I found another one cold stream farm has some deent prices too.

Make sense, now you have me thinking white and red pines. thanks for your thoughts, I was hoping you would add to this thread!

I've looked a lot at the native grasses, they're kinda pricey. The only way I could so it would be to frost seed, or take more time and roundup and spread but I don't have an option to scratch the surface or cover after planting. Do u think frost seeding will work or just get beat out by existing vegetation?
