  1. the n95 is a different story. It indeed does protect YOU, the wearer from the virus. However, it's still important that you maintain a good seal as it's a negative pressure filtering facepiece. Any beard or wrinkle in how it's applied that lets air enter your lungs unfiltered will render it far less effectivee. If you are going to wear an n95, you need to shave! edit to say, this is why the mustache is so popular with our firefighters. The cannot have facial hair beyond the stash area. fun fact
  2. a few weeks ago i was going to wegmans to fill a script for my kid with strep. I waited at the doors as a few people in front of me grabbed carts, you know... giving them their space. This early 20's something girl literally brushes past me, head glued to her phone and grabs a cart next to the old couple who I was giving space too. I did my best old man gruff (i'm 36) and she couldn't care less. Wondering how the courts of NY would look upon our use of exercising our right to use our CC's if presented with this situation. I mean, Corona kills right? The “Stand Your Ground” law pivots on two presumptions when defending a criminal defendant making a self defense case. It is presumed that the defendant had a reasonable fear that deadly force was necessary in the given situation. It is presumed that the intruder was intending to commit an unlawful act involving life threatening violence or force.
  3. this is incorrect, i've said this 100x. You're not protecting yourself, you're protecting the public and you're being protected from the public who may be carries, even without symptoms.
  4. oh it's real. @Cabin Fever and I know all too well how this kind of thing goes, and that's even with trained employees, let alone the general public! haha
  5. gloves are only as good as the person wearing them. Think of it like this. The virus can stick to surfaces much like honey or oil would stick to your counter if you spilled it.Then you touch it with your hand. Everything you touch after gets the honey or oil. Now if you consider that you put on some gloves, would that change anything? No, not really. You're still continuing to touch everything and spread it. But consider you put on the gloves to clean up the honey/oil and then properly doffed the gloves. Wallah! With some respects gloves are worse. People stop washing their hands, but keep touching their phones, steering wheels and other surfaces that they then later touch with their bare hands (which is safe btw, it doesn't transmit though skin). But then we touch our face, nose, food, mouth. And that's how it spreads. But this isn't honey or oil and we can't see it. which is why it's such a mother f*cker!
  6. that's not a belief, that's a fact. only an n95 or greater is capable of preventing the wearer from contracting the airborne particles. the fabric coverings prevent the spread of water droplets from the wearer. the end result is the same, but please don't feel like you're somehow "protected" because you're not.
  7. this applies to areas where you cannot maintain social distancing, and it is not to protect you, it is to prevent you from unknowingly, or those that go out in public when they're sick, from spreading it to others.
  8. they are in NY, yes. Not in MI or VT.
  9. On a serious note, I don't wear a tin foil hat or get too bothered by government control, but I believe it was Virginia that recently shut down a protest of 100 or so people, protesting the social distancing "rules". The police arrested some and said that protesting wasn't essential. Now, I have my own opinions on those 100 people gathered together in a crowd, but the underlying current here is a little worrisome. This whole thing is beginning to expose some underlying government influence and control issues that we shouldn't just overlook or forget.
  10. face coverings DO NOT protect you from airborne infection. They do not hurt (unless you're constantly touching your face to adjust it). The only thing that will protect you is an N95 or greater. Note that people are being asked to cover their mouths/nose so that if they are infected, the covering will capture the droplets and prevent them from spreading to a surface. The biggest issue with this disease is how many are infected and asymptomatic. so if we all cover, even if we feel fine, we can help stop the spread.
  11. our trip to hawaii was put on hold. Most of our summer plans involve our cabin in the daks so not sure yet.
  12. isn't it though? A few states are shutting down sections of their big box stores, like clothing, toys, electronics, paint etc. I get it. But I also hear that everyone is worried about suicide and domestic violence. So shouldn't I be able to buy arts and crafts, toys, games to keep my kids busy? Shouldn't I be able to buy paint to keep me busy if I'm laid off? Tablets for the kids, printing supplies for working at home? I don't understand the logic here. If walmart is open, let them sell what they have. Shit, you can't even buy vegetable plants. I think it's just MI and VT so far, but Cuomo wouldn't shock me.
  13. tonight looks like it may be the last night that we dip below freezing for a while in the Roc area. I plan to put stuff in the ground this weekend.
  14. honestly though, guns and gunsmithing really aren't essential. It's a hard case to make when even clothing isn't considered essential and the right to food, shelter and clothing are considered basic human rights.
  15. many experience no symptoms at all. There are some freak cases where some have tested negative after recovering only to get symptoms again, but it's rare. There is a 7 days since first symptoms and 72 hours after no symptoms rule before they re-test and clear for release from self isolation.
  16. i was last on page 152. is anything in pages 152-156 not political? Generally interested and care about the members and their families and what you all are hearing. Not interested in rattler and chef. thanks
  17. would have been nice if 2 people could have left it at 1 or 2 political posts, but nope we can't help ourselves can we?
  18. I live a similar life and share your feelings exactly. I try to rationalize the benefits my job provides. They help me and my family live a better life and allow me to do things that many cannot afford. For this I am fortunate. But sometimes I wonder if the stress is worth it all. not sometimes. All the time I wonder.
  19. yep. the dems still wouldn't like the wall, but they wouldn't have the stock pile of ammo they have now.
  20. that's your vote and choice. I felt this way in 2016, and still feel this way now. My vote for Trump was not so much a vote for him, but against his opponent. I'll say that Biden is a better candidate than Hillary and a bunch of the dems that were running but when i weigh it all up, Trump still has my vote. I hate his tweeting, I hate his antics, I disagree with his stance on the environment and a few other issues, but by and large I disagree more with many of the dem's platforms. And I think that's where many non-die hard trumpers who are also republicans are at.
  21. I'm not that far, and I can't believe I'm saying this, but he should take a page from Cuomo. The answer is probably a mix of both, but at least Cuomo acts like someone in charge. Philosophically I'm still a republican and that's a better vote for me, but good lord this guy makes it hard.
  22. Rat Battle Rat War Rat Army these things are all things I want to see videos on
