  1. when I hunted my 5 acre spot in NY the deer weren't phased by anything human and sometimes humans were just feet away. They adapt. It's when you have a bunch of deer not use to humans at all that the sudden introduction of a dog or 4 wheeler may affect them. I think you need to enjoy your land for all it has to offer and deer are certainly just a small part of it. Family time getting exercise for them and the dogs in the good ole outdoors? that's better than a big buck anyday. I would however, keep them out of the woods during the season.
  2. there's one in every crowd
  3. maybe somebody shot all the deer interesting experiment. be interesting to hear your results this fall when the soap comes down.
  4. I blast away. Not if I've got a buck in range I guess but nothing is worth the stomach pain.
  5. At the same time, someone who chooses to do plots and management isn't a bad guy either. Whatever floats your boat so long as you don't hurt anyone else or hunt unethically.
  6. That's not what he said. He said he hunts to control the deer population and let's a 140 walk. Not that he's just a meat Hunter but actually lets them walk.
  7. Carbon express maxima Hunter kv
  8. Nah, just tell us here. What's the deal?
  9. Should have known you drive a Prius [emoji12]
  10. with a 3 year old and a 6 month old times are busy. Not a lot of free time, but when I do get it, we're in the pool. Work is stressful but the pay is inline with the stress. I don't think I'd change a thing if I could. Need to get closer to family someday, but not sure I could ever live in the over regulated and taxed state that is NY.
  11. You contradict yourself a little. You say horns do not matter, then you say it's fun to watch young and new members kill good deer. If horns do not matter (and that's your stance, and I don't disagree), then what is a "good deer" lets be honest, for most its mature. Mature doe are often hardest to kill, but unless they're an absolute swamp donkey or you're good at aging you just don't know...
  12. I am touched and moved by every deer and animal I harvest. I say a prayer after everyone. I have passed plenty of deer for many reasons and one of them is indeed because I'm just not in the mood at that instance. I guess I don't understand your first comment. You hunt to manage the heard. To me, that sounds like someone who does not take enjoyment in hunting and just wants to kill. Secondly, do you really understand how big a 140 is? http://lcohunting.com/gallery140.htm I just don't believe you. Lets leave it at that.
  13. You only hunt to control the numbers... And you'd pass a 140? I'm sorry but I call bullshit
  14. Managing deer based on percentage of food plots left at the end of the season, and knowing which does are bedding where is some next level stuff. Too much for 90% of us with just not that large enough amount of land to control. Factor in Mother Nature and other animals that will eat the same food and you've got a tough task. Good advice however, just don't hill yourself trying to manage your population of you have anything less than 100 acres.
  15. I have a 3 to 9 Nixon on my mz and a vx2 1 to 4 leupold on my browning 12 gauge. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  16. I've needed and took advantage of my semi-auto shotgun. Glad I had it. But I've also had a shell jam on extraction preventing a follow up shot after a miss. I've had both good and bad experience. I think bolt action is the way to go for a rifle. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  19. if you have natural funnels and don't hunt them you're just silly. Without natural funnels you can still make runs that funnel in. Takes some hard work and maintenance but it works.
  20. i've had this model since I was 16. Wouldn't trade her for anything else.
  21. not in oxford. maybe the rest of the state. oxford may not be as bad as parts of the island and city, but very similar to a pitsford with snoodyness and prices.
  22. this thread is not what i expected, but i am still glad i clicked it. it really does amaze me at how big their necks get pre-rut and rut compared to the spring.
