  1. Any way, perhaps there is some food source that is more appealing to them right now? Where there are Doe there will be bucks at some point.
  2. 65 and under I would go with the 5575 and 100 grain points. Should be perfect.
  3. Is this in NY? What do you mean by having food out? Any way 70 acres is small for a deer so I wouldn't worry about not seeing any bucks just yet. I know lots of guys use a cable locks to secure stands. And personally I would still try to get permission on the unposted land but that's me.
  4. I just ordered my self a dozen CX piledriver 450's from Lancaster archery today, can't wait to get them all broad headed up and bloodied.
  5. Geeze you guys should relax a little hunting supposed to be fun. Lol I hunt from the ground and don't do food plots or trail cams, I'm good and ready.
  6. I think I'm going to go for 8h and hope wny can point me in the direction of some state land. : )
  7. I always thought grow had bats in her belfries, now it's confirmed. Jk grow My wife works nights and had one chase her down a hall last week while she sprinted and screamed like she was getting attacked. Hehe
  8. We camp because it's fun, economical, more family time, and a way to see places all over the map. We use a nice comfy camper with ac and tv's to watch at night for the kids. Of course we use ours as a base and are always busy all day every day where ever we go, hiking, exploring, fishing and what ever else we can get into with our two kids and two dogs. It takes me about two minutes to enter my relax zone when we go camping, no better felling in the world. My wife and I can see ourselves being the retired road warriors when it's time, lots of hunting places to see lol.
  9. Oh and here is a link to the DEC site that has all of the surveys so you can read them till your eyes bleed. http://www.dec.ny.go...r/74971.html#AR
  10. So you don't know how many surveys were sent out or recieved but you know its "thousands"...haha If you totaled up all of those in favor in all of the surveys you might reach @2000 in all of the years and all of the surveys done. And the ones done specificaly in the current AR areas will only reach a few hundred supporters. So please take your percentages and stick them. AR's are absolutely a social issue and nothing more, and that is 100% fact. I do like the idea I read here that its the 85% of hunters that don't kill a buck that are in favor of AR's so maybe they can kill one....lol
  11. I failed to mention I also shoot 70 pounds, you might be ok with a mid sized arrow but you will for sure be ok wilth a heavy one. Look for a spine of .300 to .320
  12. There is a contact person at the DEC who has all of the info on this program. I sent out and got it a year or two ago, great program but needs volunteers and community involvement/donations to work. Very difficult to get those things when the focus is largely of other sports and activities. For the life of me I cannot recall the womans name who heads it up, Michelle maybe? hmm
  13. "I do not know how many people were surveyed by the DEC and Cornell but I do know how they took the cross section of folks to do the survey on and it was appropriate and statically valid. As for the NYS Conservation Council I do not know how they picked the people to survey but when you have sportsmen themselves, Cornell and DEC all coming up with similar numbers doing different surveys it lends a lot of creditably." The cornell survey done on behalf of the DEC that you love soooo much showed something to the effect of 327 people in favor of AR in those areas that already had them. The other survey means little to me as it was not done in the same fashion as the DEC/Cornell survey. So how confident are you that 327 people represent the majority of hunters state wide? Keeping in mind there are, what 600,000 plus hunters in NY. If it were me I wouldn't tout majority rules based solely on 327 people. "Doewacker- how long have you been on the site- you have a lot of posts!" I don't know, maybe two years or so?
  14. Doc I would have clicked a love that button but there ain't one...perfect!
  15. Do you just not want to tell every one how many people answered the survey that you base your majority on?
  16. here it was... http://huntingny.com/forums/topic/10065-carbon-arrows-fyi-selection-vanes-etc/
  17. Look on any of the charts on what ever manufacturers web site and it will help you. As far as lenght of arrow if you can draw back with one of your old arrows and have a pal mark it about 1 inch in front of where it makes contact with the rest. Just remember the charts are mostly set up for a 28 in draw as it is the most common. If you really want to read up on arrow selection I will look up a thread on here that has a link to a good read. A heavier tip will weaken the spine, so a 100 gr tip should be ok for you no matter what. I prefer to have a heavier spine, I shoot 29in draw, 30 in arrow and CX piledriver 450's and a 75 gr tip. This year I plan on adding some 100 grainer's to see what happens.
  18. Let me use your line.."Once again"...how many people took the survey's that you love to use the percentages from so much? and who did the state wide survey? "That is why 3 points would not accomplish the goal of protecting yearling bucks in any area north and west of where the current AR area is excluding the Dacks" That was kinda the point I was trying to make, it would have no effect or little anyway in those areas so why try to compare the percentages of 1.5's taken in different areas. Its apples to oranges.
  19. Yea I don't think I can explain it the way I want too today..lol
  20. I didn't see it listed in the regs book which is available online. Sounds like a no go.
  21. Yup I know how they get their age's. What I'm saying is it doesn't mean much to compare your wmu to one in a different part of the state. A 1.5 in your and my area may be a spike typically and in other parts (like SteveB had said in his area) most 1.5's are 6's. What that means to me is 1.5 take percentages don't mean much outside of the AR zones.
  22. I don't think we can compare a 1.5 from one unit to a 1.5 in another. A 1.5 in one may well qualify under the 3 on a side rule meaning AR would do nothing to protect it.
