The Expanded Antler Restrictions - Who is excited?
Doewhacker replied to TheHunter's topic in Deer Hunting
Or just the fact that hunting is changing acrossed the board, we are seeing a shift from the old ways to the new. As an example look at how many guys only sit in tree stands as their way of hunting, years ago it was still hunting and drives. Things are changing. -

That is the scariest part for me, we are now allowing politics to make decisions reguarding hunting/conservation. Did any one see how the head of the Cali DNR was pushed out for going on a Mountain Lion hunt in Idaho? It was all politics and had nothing to do with anything else. I see that type of silliness happening in NY before long. -

Or people could look around at the various sources on the internet and videos that are out there to learn how to age a little better. It ain't rocket science. -

According to the DEC monetary impact on the communities will be minimal, I tend to agree with them. And I think "upstate" is hanging on just fine. I don't support AR's and in my opinion they don't go far enough to have an impact. Seem's like a half assed attempt to quiet some groups down, the same groups do not want stricter AR's put into place. I find it interseting how many hunter's cannot age a deer if their life depended on it, mistaking Button bucks for does is crazy to me, balking at a 1.5 year and killing a 2.5 year old and thinking that is any better is crazy to me too. I'm not suggesting being able to tell a 4 yr old from a 5yr old is important, but maybe we should educate hunters on how to tell which buck is a 3.5 yr old compared to a 1.5 or 2.5 yr old and then let them decide what to shoot. -
I agree with that, maybe not so for every one but absolutely for some of us. I relate it to any sporting dog, some lines are strong and the dogs are born hunting machines, other not so much.

Probaly the same way having them in place will help the buck to doe ratio. Meaning it won't either way. -

Yea I can't figure out how Skillet would have thought you were a condescending dink, thats a real mystery..... I bet if you repeat your opinions 10,000 more times people will agree with you. -
Sounds like the kind of deer that when he see's you he runs backwards toward you cause he is so happy to see you packin.. I mean a gun... geeze.

Wow its rare to find one at the pound, most breeders encourage people to return them if they are a problem. Of course it could have been an escape. There are at least two breeders in that part of the state, one is the guy I got mine from (Bruce Ross) and the other is a guy who also has a quality breeding program with a kennel name of Dark Star. Wirehairs are not for every one but we love ours as much as our Griff. I would love to see a pic of your wirehair.

Hey now, I have a gwp and a wpg. The Griff is steady and I am working with a trainer to take him to the next level and plan on testing him AKC Senior test and Navhda UT next year. Kind of hard to train with out being a member of a club in NY, unless you get the afore mentioned permits. Where did you get your GWP if I might ask?

CVA .50 Cal Inline - For Sale- Cheap!
Doewhacker replied to SteveMcD's topic in Hunting Items For Sale and Trade
They have that gun at Gander mountain for 139, I could offer you 100. Feel free to counter offer. Can you give us an idea of where you are located? -
I was just about to say that, I agree age should be more important than score.

If the club goal is 120 minimum why even worry about a sub 120 buck?
-
I thought Sandusky was the only "touch master" around. Who names these things?
-
A good pile with the 12 and remington slugs, 3 with the 50 cal ML, and 3 with the 7mm and about maybe 14 with a few different bows. I must admitt I stopped keeping track after the first couple of dozen (total).

New picts, freaky buck, fawns and some yotes

Thats one ugly buck, I'll take care of him for you...hehe Cool pics! -
Proper tuned bow and arrow will do the trick for increased penetration. What arrow do you shoot and what is the GPI and spine of said arrow? I shoot fixed, one less thing to go wrong in the field. I have put an arrow through bone with a Muzzy, surprised me, but I do shoot a heavy set up.

I found this on a web site and thought it might help clear things up for some.... "Draw Length is the distance from the nock point to the throat of the grip plus 1 3/4". Typically, this length will also be about the same length of arrow needed by the compound archer. To measure your draw length, stand with your back to a wall stretching your arms out against the wall. Measure the distance from the end of your middle finger to the end of your other middle finger, basically the length of both arms, hands and chest. This measurement, minus 15 then divided by 2, is your draw length. Resist the temptation to make your draw length longer than it should be, as this will affect your accuracy. Your wingspan typically is the same as your height in inches. So your height in inches minus 15 and then divided by 2 will be your draw length, or at least a very good starting point. Just use our handy dandy draw length calculator at the top of this page. Will a string loop change my draw length?Since the draw length is the distance from the nock point to the throat of the grip plus 1 3/4", adding a string loop cannot change the bow's draw length. BUT, it will change your anchor point moving it back 1/2" to 3/4". This will make it feel like your draw length is longer. If you want your same anchor point, then you will need to shorten the bow's draw length by about a 1/2" to move your anchor point back up to your preference." I will add my thought's aswell, new bows have differing axle to axle lenghts, the shorter the bow the tighter the pinch at the nock will be. This is where string loops shine in negating that pinch. I recomend a string loop for newer bows. Now the shorter bows also can allow guys to shoot a longer draw length too, not that they have too but the angle of the string is such that the peep gets moved further away from your eye on a shorter bow and if you are like me the string touches the end of my nose and that would change with a shorter bow too. Bottom line is get the proper draw legnth for what ever specific bow you shoot and then worry about the anchor point, anchor points can be changed as described by the other poster's here. Draw legnth's should not be stretched or shortened IN MY OPINION. Take every one's advice with a grain of salt and do what works for you. As far as the string slaping your arm, as the others said try rolling your elbow, I have found that my Parker's cables are very close to the string and also my arm. Its one of those things that bugs the crap out of me but not much I can do about it other than buying a new Hoyt.

Well I guess if you snip the end off it would be good for hunting, when you gotta take a leak there will be no skin exposed that might spook a deer off. Now thats taking "full camo" to a new level!
