  1. I don't see this going far, I got an email last week about it and its to dumb to go through if you ask me.
  2. I wonder how much of the plan is going to be implemented? These are suggestions as they called them? After a brief scan of it I don't care for much of it at all.
  3. Dave thats not how it would work, if such a UN treaty did exist it would have to go through the Supreme court and get a 2/3 vote through Congress, neither of which are going to happen. Not remotely the same as Health care.
  4. http://www.snopes.com/politics/guns/untreaty.asp Dave, don't beleive every thing some one puts on the internet in a blog..
  5. I agree they can make all of the rules they want, its getting them enforced and carried out effectively that is the hard part. A prime example was that Jared Laughner guy in Arizona, plenty of people knew he was nuts but the dots were never connected. No amount of control did anything to stop that guy because the system didn't work. But I'm not in any way saying that we should scrap the whole system, maybe just work on using whats there is a better idea.
  6. Dave you do realize that every single thing you listed there is regulated in some way right? And the FBI has a long list of reasons why some one is turned down for a gun through the NIC's process none of which I find argueable. The good thing here is the single best way to change something isn't going to be posting flim flam on the internet, its going to be done by those in charge and by us writing letters or emails and voicing our opinions, what ever they be.
  7. Elmer I would call first, they were unsure as to how much damage they had to repair and warned us to check before we went up for fathers day. They were going to take pictures for the insurance company when we were there. Their web site didn't note anything though...the one side of the road by the office is fine but the Hundred acre woods where we go was toast. I will not stay on the other side of the road because I love the hundred acres woods so much more. Thats not a bad camp site you had there!
  8. I think its all three of the reasons you listed, I also saw a few deer that were freshly killed along the roads. Deer...Turtle thats how it went.
  9. You know I noted the same thing with the Turtles, maybe they were going on vacation too!
  10. Ah what can you do, I saw on the news that it was some of the worst storms the area has seen in many many years. I am really thankfull we weren't already set up when it came in..yikes that would have been bad. Hopefully they get it all fixed up fast because we are supposed to go up on fathers day weekend and again on the Fourth and I would hate to try and find a different site on short notice.
  11. Any one else get washed out of camping this weekend? I had the pleasure of towing my camper through the hardest, most damaging rain I have ever seen on Friday night. I was going through water running over the road, over rocks and branches and visibility was at a minimum. When we finally made it to the site they were in rough shape, it was completely washed out to the point where we had to turn around and go home. What a bummer, especially with to little kids crying but we made the best of it at home. Last year I drove through the left over's of a Hurricane, I have had enough towing in crazy conditions for a while! lol
  12. "At No.1 on our list, New York is expected to wave goodbye to 49,000 more people than it gains this year. The state has seen a steady loss of residents over the past five years, losing an average of 100,000 people per year. Karp explains that, because New York is a large state, it may report greater movement than others, but notes that population size is not the only reason residents are fleeing." "More people are leaving New York than any other state, new population estimates from the U.S. Census show, making it one of America's most stagnant populations. Experts blame the exodus — nearly 1.5 million people have moved out of New York since April 2000 — on high property taxes and fewer jobs, among other factors... The Census study said New York's population grew by about 1.7% between 2000 and 2007, and now stands at about 19.3 million people. The population has grown slightly, according to the data, because birth rates are higher than death rates and foreign immigrants continue to pour into New York City." "The Census Bureau now ranks New York the eighth-slowest-growing state, behind Massachusetts, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Rhode Island, West Virginia, North Dakota, and Louisiana. Although no new data are available for New York City, researchers say the city has fared better than the state because foreign immigrants are replenishing its population." We are getting new blood in the state more than we are people moving here cause its so great.
  13. "True, I think the cost of living is cheaper in many places, but salaries can be considerably lower also" Actually for me at least the salary ranges go up by a good portion due to the lack of a hiring pool in rural America, now if I swung a hammer for a living I might be up a creek but my company list's the pay range and even offer ALOT for moving in certain situations which is a huge perk. Doc, you need to get out more my friend lol. I love to travel (hence camping trips all over) so for me it wold be not so bad to move and adapt some where else. I'm not alone by the way, lots and lots of NY'er's are leaving our state for some of the same reason's I have listed. As far as the family part goes, thats a whole nother thread..haha I think there is a chance my family would follow me out to where ever I landed, not because I am that great but because we are all kinda of the same mind set. I guess I get that wanting to go feeling from my dad. Although he is like you Doc, never leaves his chunk of the woods and never really been any where west of Niagra falls. (Well I know you have traveled based on other posts but you get the idea) And Culver thats an excellent point, however, people have been bringing kids up in the mid west for centuries and alot of them turn out just fine. I must admit that my son has ADHD and Assbergers so finding somewhere that he can get the care he needs may be difficult but I really don't know, I'm assuming the bigger cities would have the appropriate care givers? Thats going to be my wifes job to reasearch..haha I will worry about cost of living and hunting and she can do the rest...
  14. I know what you mean, I was out last night flushing the water lines on the camper and packing stuff up getting ready. It shouldn't take you long to wire it up though.
  15. " I guess if I had to pick a state, I would pick Montana or Wyoming, basically for it's stunning scenery and diverse wildlife." Thats what I'm talking about, you can hunt a long list of animals out there. And the winter we had this past year was certainly a tough one but I think I would still take that over the heat of the south any day of the week. The cost of living is really a big part for me too, 30% cheaper is alot over the term of my life. In one part of Iowa the housing was 44% cheaper than here, so in theory I could sell the house and find one there and some land for what I paid here for a house on .9 of an acre. What I find impossible to measure is quality of life, like you alluded too. Is it really better in one spot or another, or is it just that a guy might be happier because of his hobbies are playing a bigger role in his life some where else. "Life, libery and the pursuit of happiness" with a heavy emphasis on the pursuit of happiness bit.
  16. wow, that sucker looks like it performs well on paper, I'm not good enough to prove it though...lol Good luck with them.
  17. ah grow a set like WNY and shoot a few boxes of shells...lol It ain't gonna kill ya!
  18. If you could pick a state to move to which one would it be and why? We have been seriously considering it for a while now but would like to wait 5 years so the kids are a bit older (7+2) so its easier on them. But I can't decide which one to go to, South Dakota, Iowa, Illinois...too many choices. We have been taking into consideration cost of living, weather, (I don't like tornado's) hunting and terrain. The job part is kind of easy for us, she is in health care and I am in a big company that manages stuff for other companies like hospitals and colleges. What do you guys think?
  19. Same here, 7mm kicks way less than a 12 and I don't mess with 3 inchers except for turkey loads.
  20. Welcome to the 12 gage 870 club..haha Just imagine what it feels like to be on the recieving end of the bullet... ??? Were you using 3 inchers?
  21. Navhda, which stands for North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association, its a internation club as well as local chapter and we get together to train and test our dogs. Its a great way to learn how to train a bird dog to do a long list of task's including tracking wounded game.
  22. No, doesnt matter the age of the bow. The trad shooters use em too.
  23. yup, thats the one, we can't wait.
  24. doc uses wooden arrows with sharpened rocks held on by vines.... lol I thought he finally made the switch ...and he is still killing deer with his eyes closed...haha Go Doc!
  25. Our favorite spot at the base of Whiteface Mt., peace and quiet and most likely lots of bugs..lol I'll take one million bugs over my in-laws any day of the week! I hope to get some trout fishing in on the Ausable with my kids.
