  1. Watch your step getting down WNY. Seriously though, they say the herd is at what, at least a few hundred thousand, what harm will taking 9000 do. I don't see the need to manage things so tightly that its not fun any more. Manage the gun and ML take and leave bow hunters alone, its hard enough to get one with the bow, no need to make it harder.
  2. I tell you what I can do Burt, I'll set up down the trail from you and you pass the doe and let me shoot it, you can shoot bucks till your'e blue in the face I'm fine with that. lol
  3. "The way things are now is obvioulsy not working, you hear it all the time on this site and others "I dont see any deer in my area" or "DEC over issues DMPs for my area", " Thats another problem, what some may say is a poor area others have great luck in. Thats where those infrared helicopters come in to help count the actual deer numbers. lol yea right, our state is broke!
  4. [quote author=WNYBuckHunter The DMP system isnt controlled by statewide stats, its zone specific. How would they be able to control the numbers of antlerless deer taken in specific zones without specifying where the antlerless tag can be used? They cant control it, whats the point? Do 9000 antlerless taken by bow really make that huge of an impact on the herd? It would work out to a few hundred per area. Seems like small potatoe's to me and it would serve us better to spend energy on controling other areas. It just seems like I know more about how many deer are in my spots than the DEC does, so why not leave it up to me like we do now. What about an incentive to get more DMP's filled where they need them filled. I see they get a 6% return rate on doe tags issued each year, and each year there are areas where they issue more tags out by you, how about a way to get more of those tags filled?
  5. DEC states there was a 40% decline in buck harvest in delaware county before implementing AR's. Some properties may not have seen this effect and some did. The DEC goes by the area as a whole, not just property by property. There is more to the herd than just bucks. And you were the one that made the blanket statement of the herd being "decimated" in regions 3&4. It looks just fine to me in our area, if anything there are far too many Doe.
  6. "The deer herd is not decimated in all of NY, thats why they will never have AR's in regions 7, 8 &9. In regions 3 & 4 its a different story." I don't know, its tough to say an area is "decimated" when we see lots of deer in the areas we hunt in region 3. Allways have too.
  7. "Currently the DEC has no way to control the antlerless take, as every one that buys a bow and/or ML tag automatically gets an antlerless tag." ML and bow account for @20K doe's per year, I say split the ML tag off and leave the bow tags alone. Total bow take is about 35K a year, and doe taken by bow are @9k spread out over the whole state, let the guns do the killing where needed and leave us bow hunters alone. What if they had a lottery system for buck tags in the low population areas? I bet that would flip some guys out, not me, I just want to hunt and kill deer, what ever they tell me I can kill I'm going to try to kill.
  8. "Hunting is the only proven animal control method and will continue as long as there is habitat and animals enough to control.." You know the DEC has studied what other measures could be taken if we hunters don't do our job of killing. Things like, re-introducing wolves and deer contraception, hunting is by far the best method but it should be noticed that they already have the studies done for the just in case scenario. My recomendation, kill deer, its our jobs.
  9. localqdm, We still hunt quite a bit too, its not that hard or unsafe to do. Just have to be carefull is all, you go slow and watch your footing and every thing is ok. My brother got a nice 9 last year with the bow still hunting, it can be very effective. I dont know if there are many still hunting bowhunters left these days. Hell you say you still hunt and people look at you funny.
  10. Looks like one of my Dad's broadheads, lol ;D

Personaly I have been to a couple of them for 3-d shoots but couldn't tell you which one is better than the other. I would try Wilton first as it is the closest. I shoot in the back yard with my bow and down the road in a field with the gun, there are other places too but I dont have the info on them, Fishcreek in Victory mills comes to mind. Good luck and welcome to the area.
  12. All I can find is the BC map for the whole country, I know I have seen it for NY before but can't find it. dang it!
  13. NY has something like that Geno, I'll see if I can dig it up. I have seen it before for sure.
  14. And you know that stuff has happened in real life too. I see it now, guy all decked out in scent lok on stand pooping his pants from too much chili and beer. I bet that type of guy gambles on a fart in the stand and looses cause he can't get down fast enough. ???
  15. There are few things I hate about hunting shows, and the use of the word "management" is just one of them. When you actually do see them shooting a doe they dedicate it to "doe management" as if its a dirty word to just call it hunting. The bad shots, the faking it to make it look like the deer is bigger than it is like it matters, the list goes on and on. The thing I absolutly hate more than any thing else is when you hear the guy say they have been hunting hard all week. oohhhh you hunted hard for a whole week and got a chance at a big buck on a guided hunt, poor you, come hunt our way in NY and you will see what it means to hunt hard. And what exactly is so hard about getting a ride to the pre hung pre scouted stand set up, sheesh bunch of damn posers for the most part with the exception of a few.
  16. That seems cheap compared to my area, look up land prices in the Saratoga area and you might barf.
  17. Bingo, I would find a new shop right away if they don't know that. Its pretty simple and they should know that, I would also make sure your arrow flight is good by paper shooting, if your rest and nocking point is off that would mess you up too.
  18. Well apparently the DOH frowns upon dogs at a BBQ festival.. ;D Me and Gus stayed in the truck while the wife and kids had a good time. She bought me some lunch and it was good but not the really good stuff because we were there early on Sunday before it really got rolling. No one was really set up yet at 1100 am but it sure did smell good. Other then that we all had a great time camping, hiking and fishing. I was so full from eating a giant pulled pork sandwhich that I didn't eat dinner..lol
  19. I got the site for you, we can be neighbors for a weekend, haha I think its fitting that they hold this at the Olympic facility, I am going for the gold in fatness. Good thing we are doing a hike or two this weekend too.
  20. I think that a couple of round guys with sauce all over them will fit in at this festival. haha
  21. Why didn't they learn after the first go round! Congrats Mr and Mrs Fast Eddie
  22. See you there, I'll be eating at the BBQ festival. ;D I'll be easy to spot, I'll have sauce all over my face and at some point I'll be getting wheeled around from eating too much.
  23. Good luck finding those numbers. Just like the hunter survey's, percentages don't work for every thing. The DEC can survey 1000 (just an example #) people and call it good or they could do a survey for all hunters and get a better idea by doing it at the time of the sale of the license. DEC keeps repeating it , this is a social issue.
