  1. Rattleing and grunting work, but not all year. I have the best luck during the pre-rut time...usually on cloudy days. I have a 8 pointer rack I use for rattling, I figure its better than leaving it in a box some where.
  2. Do you know any one that has a gun or two the kid could try out? Growing up with shot guns, I can tell you I would take any rifle over a heavy duty slug gun any day of the week. He will be fine with what ever you choose, don't over think it.
  3. I am ready..hopefully this rain will dry up, we have a stream to cross to get to our spot. As of now it is a no go but fingers crossed it will go down to a reasonable depth by the opener. I plan on going out around home this weekend,(NZ) things have finally settled down and I am mentally ready.
  4. It ain't gotta be fancy but it does have to work. He was complaining this year about having trouble finding the Wasp Broad heads he has used forever..they stopped making them but luckily the bow shop he goes to stock piled them back in the early 90's when he bought the bow. haha His other bow he used from the 70's till this one and only put it down because the limbs were giving up. Haha.. I just was looking at first picture, look at the rainbow of different arrows and fletches..makes me wonder what the hell he did with the dozen I gave him this spring.
  5. It is a circa 90-92 Hoyt Eclipse, note the pin with black tape on it holding it place. Thats right he tunes his bow with black tape, the sight bracket was made by his buddy Bob 27 years ago at the machine shop. If you look close you also see the springy rest from many moons ago. His buddy gave him a newer bow and he refuses to use it. : My brother and I make fun of him every year and gets us back by shooting deer and having us drag them out..haha
  6. I just had another thought, have you checked your rest or knocking point lately? Its posible that one of them is moving around too. You were shooting good withthe new arrows before the switch right?
  7. Well I'm out, I just got new bow this year. My other bow was new in @1997, but my Dad's is from around the early 90's. I need to get a pic of that thing up so we can laugh at his handy work, but he has killed more deer than you can shake a stick at with it. His only other bow was from the 70's and he killed a pile with that too. I have had the same release since @1997, its starting to release slowly and I will have to replace it soon and I just made the switch to carbon this year, I held off cause I'm cheap and resistent to change. ;D
  8. The quiver issue is probally due to a slightly smaller diameter arrow, I'm guessing carbon right?. Where are you located, I have two quiver's that I have no need for and you are welcome to one. The quivers also came with the new bow's my wife and I each got last year. To get a decent sturdy sight it will run you about $40 minimum, at least you know exactaly what to look for when you do replace it in the future.
  9. That happens to me with the Blu Ray remote in a dark living room.."Honey... wheres that damn pause button? Oh screw it turn on the lights, I gotta get a snack" I need the next step, voice activated every thing.
  10. Like this? http://www.gandermountain.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?i=414268&pdesc=Roscoby_Bow_Mounted_Video_Camera I don't know about the on off part you are talking about though.
  11. Does it by chance have plastic pins/threads? I am thinking of a sight bracket that has plastic parts, which can cause the parts to move around and be nearly impossible to sight in...simular to this one here. My wife's bow came with one and she has had problems with one pin staying put. http://www.gandermountain.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?r=view&i=429333&aID=503AB3&cID=FROOGLE_429333 That or its just you.haha
  12. I have a Nikon Buckmaster 3x9 Scope that seems good, I am not a gun guy so take my opinion with a grain of salt. I use Bushnell 10x42 binos, and I do like them alot.
  13. Mark that is awesome, and alot of first that you got out of the way.. once again congrats!! I remeber my first alone, it was and will remain special to me.
  14. I would think it had more to do with the angle of the shot over much else. It was a dead on placement but the exit obviously was clogged up, 25 yards is pretty short like split said and she probally didn't have time to bleed much. I had a simular situation last year with a liver hit. Never really bleed but went down with in 50 yards where I could see him. I use 75 grn muzzy 3 blade's, never had an issue with them.
  15. I tried that over the off season to no avail. I think Steve is right a phone call would be better than a letter, but a letter is better than nothing at all.
  16. Yes but Chloryphill pills are even better for them, thats why I dump some out on the ground when I see sign of them. I guess thats baiting? and you are talking about food plots.. damn Yes Fantail, he was pissed, but he deals with it every year. He gives us an anual dead deer quota to fill and every year the number goes up..Damn slave driver farmer. The field that the deer ate up the crops he lease's the rights to farm and the owner will not allow hunting. Its ok because we hunt not to far from it any way and I'm sure we see some of the same deer that eat up his stuff. Its not unheard of to drive by and see 30-60 deer in his field towards the end of the season.
  17. Welcome and Congrats! Did she die in the drive way like that? JK
  18. We don't do them, instead we hunt in the area of a human food plot The farmer does farmers markets and the deer destroy alot of his various crops every year. This year the deer ate about 300 ft of carrotts over night on him.
  19. No Capt.. you can not use DMP's only the regular season and bow/ml tags may be used but it is valid for either sex during the four day early archery season. As far as I know you can not use unused doe tags the following year. See page 26 of the sylabus, it expalins it there. It can be veiwed online here.. http://www.dec.ny.gov/docs/wildlife_pdf/2010guidebggm.pdf
  20. Man I don't miss working a weird schedule in the restuarants at all, good luck. It wasn't that long ago that I would stay up the rest of the night to go hunting, or really it could have been considered napping. It can deffinetily have a negative affect on your life and health. Now I got it made, easy hours and free time.
  21. yea what they said, Practice! and also make sure you have a well tuned bow/equipment.
  22. dang.. you just gave me the willies thinking about that... I hope you get better fast!
