tips on tactics as well would be nice, where we're going is kind of flat with a big beaver meadow, lake to the north, hills/mountains to the south

My buddy and I are going up into the Adirondacks this fall (early November) for a couple days/nights... Going to go up next month to walk the woods to get a feel for them and do some fishing. Then two weeks before we stay over night in the woods were going to hang a couple cameras then check them when we get back in the woods two weeks later! I'm pumped, been satellite scouting, reviewing a topo map and planning our way in and out and hunting areas! Going to bring the new 30-30 for its first hunt as well, maybe a mixed bag of deer and beer....I mean bear!! haha. Any tips on what to bring? We'll be about 1.5-2 miles from the lake shore so don't want to over or under pack... I know the typical tent, tarp, GPS...what are some other things that I might not be thinking of?

Why Do I Need a License to take my grand kids hunting
bowaholic replied to Youngre911's topic in General Hunting
it could have something to do with proving you still are legal to hunt in NY and a good hunting role model as well. If you are convicted of hunting related crimes your license will be taken away for x-amount of years of for life. these people aren't the kind we want in the woods teaching the youths because they are most likely going to teach them illegal tactics. a license shows that you are in good standings with the law and a good role model in the hunting woods. -
looking like he'll be a good one! better stick him this year
-
I do, they work like a charm!
-
They sell bait in stores too but that doesn't mean its legal. And again just because they wont give you a hard time doesn't mean its okay, I hunt by the book and don't want to use something that by law is illegal. I guess Ill pass on the G5s then.
-
I just ordered some Rage Extremes the other day and have used Rage for the last couple of year and love them. I was thinking of trying out something new in the G5 T3 this year. Large cutting diameter, supposed to fly straight etc. I know for a mechanical broadhead to be legal in NY it can not form or be in the shape of a barb when pulled from an animal and in all of the videos I have seen of the T3s I haven't seen anyone show how they come out of an animal. So my question is are they legal in NY and if so has anyone used them with success/failure?

What kayak for fishing/deer hunting?

get a flat bottom Jon boat! -
squirrels and porcupines will strip bark like this on different kinds of trees, not sure but that's what I'm thinking.

I had a Mink freeze dried before and it looked beautiful, this was mounted on a form I can tell because of the stitches sticking up on its back and legs. He did a deer for my dad 25+ years ago and it looks great, he just for some reason didn't care about his work this time... i'll never go to him again and I will never recommend him. He isn't a very personable person either

I just witnessed nature take it's course...

I made my grandmother a feeder that has two small entry holes and another hole that you put the opening of a large glass jar (pickle jar) for the birds to eat in safely... one day I watched a small bird eating in it and a hawk swooped down right in front of me and smacked against the glass... he sat there trying to figure out why he couldn't get the bird and the small bird just sat there watching him in the safety of the jar. the hawk left a couple minutes later and the bird snuck out too. that was so cool to see! -
population way down in 6p and general area...got one Saturday morning but that was the first good time I have gotten in two years. a lot of fishers around and I know that has something to do with it. it also doesn't help people shooting four or five birds in the spring.... a-holes
-
Friday morning I missed one of two birds just seconds after I spooked off a big tom, I know he obviously heard the shot. Saturday morning I sat right where I missed the birds the morning before and sure enough here comes the big tom with a hen...I just had him for lunch yesterday so I agree that you can hunt a bird that has been shot at or very close to a shot just one day after. Hopefully you get him

I guess we do, yours came out great! and I'm not sure if anything can be done. one of the guys I work with is a taxidermist so ill show him the pictures and see what he thinks.

I got a beautiful grey fox over a year ago and decided to get it mounted. I took it to Palmer's Taxidermy in Westmoreland (same guy who introduced CWD to NY)... When I took it to him he never wrote down the form I wanted or the style of base. he said he would call me with the measurements which he never did. about 8 months later I called and checked in on it and he said to me that he hadn't even started it but it was back from the tannery and came out "great". another 4 months go by and I called again to see if he had started and he said, "actually I just finished it" I went right down and.....wasn't my fox (mine had a scar on the nose. he said oh yeah that's not yours, I haven't even started yours....... I was pissed, oh and guess what he asked me? what form do you want?! I sent him pictures twice of how I want my fox! so yet again I showed him how I wanted it and he tried to get me to change it because he would have to adjust the head, No I'm paying you 593 bucks your doing it how I want it now how YOU want it.... well two weeks ago he called me and it was finally done! Went down Sunday, checked for the scar and paid him, it looked okay in his shop with only sun light coming through a window... When I got it home I noticed the mouth had paint all over the white, the ears looked like crap, the hair on the back wouldn't lay down smooth, the front leg that it visible was matted down with glue, and there was a HUGE bald spot on the stomach that was visible on the shelf.... I went right back down to him and he said oh yeah I forgot to tell you about that, it came back from the tannery like that....WTF!! I told him he should have called me and told me when it came in and asked if I even wanted it done still, or told me when I picked it up.... not tell me that it came out great over the phone when you tell me its done. He wasn't even going to give me my money back, I told him he could keep the 250$ deposit I had put down but I wanted my the balance back and to keep the fox....which he agreed to. It was a huge mistake taking it to someone as shady as him in the first place. I had a bad feeling the whole time.... DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING TO HIM THAT MEANS ANYTHING TO YOU!!! He does not care about his finished product only the big $$$ you spend there..... Sorry for the long rant but I am PISSED and don't want anyone else to make the same mistake that I made...

cool story btw!

Do you really have to bring up CWD again? It was nice not seeing those three letters on here for a while...... oh boy!
