  1. happened to my family years back before I was able to hunt. Had a nice farm in Eaton somewhere they had permission to hunt, they took a buddy there and the following year it was posted by him and he got the farmer to allow only him to hunt it. He wouldn't even let my family hunt there even though they were the ones took the stroker to the property in the first place being good hunting buddies. Needless to say they don't talk anymore.
  2. definitely red squirrels! OMG SOO ANNOYING!
  3. Call the DEC next time he is there and he should get the point then!
  4. haha yeah the chicken one was actually good! fox....more of a sarcastic why am I still watching this after two minutes kinda laugh hahaha
  5. And you listened to her why?! hahaha
  6. when I first started hunting I had the "if its brown its down" mentality. after two small bucks I already wanted more. I love watching the small ones walk and wonder what they will look like in a few years. And I can keep my real world skills keen by shooting a big mature doe rather than a young spike that comes in and licks my boot. But to each their own.
  7. wash all my gear in dead down wind, hang it to air dry out in the woods behind the house for a couple days, then right into a Tinks scent bag for the season. If it gets wet, dirty or even better bloody I do the process all over again. Spray down before walking into the woods with Scent Killer from head to toe and my backpack as well.
  8. This weather is Bull! Been in the 60s all month just about and now that season is only a couple days away Mother Nature decides lets turn up the thermostat....
  9. This state could be an Illinois, or Kansas kind of buck state if managed properly. We have the land needed for it but with hunters who have itchy trigger fingers we don't get as many big mature bucks because they are shot as spikes and crotch horns. Try not to think of it as the state telling us what we can and can't do but think of it as them trying to help us grow more mature deer. I mean why would they care if we shot spikes or not, they are trying to get a mature and healthy herd.
  10. agree, im sick of the feeling of "I need to shoot him or else someone else will." I pass small bucks all the time trying to get some mature deer around but everyone else shoots anything with antlers. Its a pain in the A$$
  11. let me know how you like it! I was going to get that gun in 270 WSM but I got my Benelli Supernova instead....maybe next year
  12. this will probably turn out to be like last years New York record from early season....turned out to be a high fenced deer
  13. Year and a Half.....I wouldn't shoot him, hell be a stud in a couple years with those genes!
  14. After five years of harping on my best friend I finally got him to buy a hunter safety system for this year.....his uncle fell from a stand years ago and he still never wore one himself...its an outcome that never needs to happen!
  15. I actually really enjoy taking my girlfriend with me hunting and so does she. We only go a couple times a season together but its nice to get out and just relax with her. I wont bring her out during the gun season for deer tho just due to the number of people out and all of the shooting. She really gets into it and points out sign and asks questions. Her favorite thing to do is shed and dead hunt during the winter. She doesn't have the heart to kill anything....yet She just took her pistol permit course this past weekend too all on her own wanting to go.
  16. I was just curious if anyone has an opinion on coon trapping. I am thinking about doing it this year but was curious as to how much money they bring and also how much work. I don't know anyone who does it near me so there are a TON of coons. I work well over 40 hours a week every week and they are all 12+ hour shifts on top of an hour drive to and from work every day so id have to check my traps late and quick. I've trapped muskrats and mink since I was about 9 so I'm no beginner to trapping but I am a beginner to coon trapping. I want to get a few dog proof traps and get them that way. Any tips?
  17. It being able to fold back is such a great idea too!
  18. I got one of the TruFire fold back releases and I love it! The one I have the length can be adjusted by spinning the body of the release and tightening a screw. Its nice because you can customize it to the exact length you want. Kind of pricy at $100 but I think it was worth it....I spent over $1200 on my bow so what's another $100 for a good release right?
  19. Shot a nice buck a couple years ago with my bow, let it sit two hours and when I got back, there were coyotes howling less than 100 yards from me. yes I was a little freaked out gutting a deer and expecting to look up to a pack of coyotes lol but they never bothered me. They'll be scared of you and your lights to the point where they won't bother you either.
  20. You may see some scrapes early to mid October but that doesn't mean that they are in the rut and they won't respond to the scent. I'd wait until you see scrape lines and tore up trees rather than a rub or scrape here and there.
  21. This is tricky...As many others have pointed out shooting within 10 yards isn't necessary and honestly its a waste of time. I've shot a lot of deer and that close of shooting isn't needed, your 10 yard pin will be where you need it no matter your set up. You have something that will make you a great hunter some day....dedication and hard work, two attributes a lot of kids now a days don't have ( I say kids yet im only 23 myself haha) I would work on your follow through....Your follow through will for sure make you a much more accurate archer on the range and in the woods. Keep your pin trained on the target and keep looking through the peepsight until your arrow hits the target. This will become second nature to you and I guarantee it will help your grouping. Also (your equipment may not be up to it) try shooting longer distances which could be just 40 yards for you. Longer distances teach you to focus and follow through. I shoot 50-60 yards, not for hunting practice but for form practice. I noticed my groups have been getting tighter and tighter after starting to do this. You'll get there bud, don't get discouraged and just keep after it!
  22. I use a small cable lock on my camera that keeps the door of it shut so they cant do this exact thing!
