But the color blind cannot...... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -
Scoring racks and self control with triggers are two problems NYers really suffer from. I've never dove into the books but have seen a 165" 8 taken in Livingston county that dwarfed the even higher inched deer around it like it was a caricature. Some guy started a thread on AT about the pockets of 150" bucks in western NY. Usually someone brings up the Lucky and ? Boylan bucks every year too. Most don't get it. Record books are a synapse in time and most savvy NY trophy killers aren't going near a record book for a reason...but then again neither are most poachers here and we have way more of those. Lots of great podcasts on it the past few weeks- ultimately it is managing unknowns and assumptions Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

We eat 4-6 deer a year... guessing that makes me a hunter. As for the experience it increases with the challenge. Try keeping your forefinger away from your gun the next time that jaw dropper year and half is near your stand and you'll feel the rush... can't imagine what that 2 yo behind him will do for your cardiac condition. I seemed to miss the tally- how many folks are killing these trophy deer and I satisfied? There is a pretty obvious correlation to a few things here... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I love how many here can justify keeping minnows Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I love this post. Puts the ass in assumption. Why work if you can eat free at a homeless shelter? People who don't shoot big deer or mature deer make a choice just like those who do.... the only difference is the majority of those that are labeled trophy hunters prize the experience and effort required- not the ironic labeling those with a lack of drive who cherish their freezer meat. If you can easily and consistently take 140s&150s in NY get into the hunting industry- it pays better. [emoji41] Ny hunters tend to be whiney "don't think about the long run out it in my hand kind of folks..... that will be exponentially exacerbated when they pay you. At one point, before it was cool, a buddy and I did a few small habitat projects for folks. Mind blown. I paid you to set this up, I want a Booner standing here despite killing 5 other deer, a kid racing dirt bikes, my 9 dogs running around and having dropped trou upwind of the bedding area. Come on man- this is the perfect 11 acres! Lol. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Great to see personal attacks can pull us away from the point. Let's re-center, thank the captive deer industry for cwd and get back to explaining why buying groceries with food stamps is the same as foraging... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

SB 4739 - Establishes the yearling buck protection program

The comment was made about all these giant deer- merely pointing out they are such a minuscule percentage or the total take. 85% of the deer killed in NY are 2 or younger and 2/3rds of those are 1 yo or less. Can't wait for your rebuttal of what the DEC told you.... What's the best day of gun season? Opening day, right? Why? Because almost everyone of the participants in gun season are the aforementioned slobs and deer die or stop moving. Yes, I gun hunt. Typically only shooting the wounded deer running around post deer drive other some other similar lead spraying activity. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

We love venison (5-6 deer a yrs worth). I won't shoot little bucks. The experience is my trophy. If I still fished I wouldn't keep Minnows saying I am hungry. So sorry on my posts. How can I turn them forward or make them easier to understand? As for now being the apex of hunting- not sure where you live, if/what your standards are or where your desires come in.... but it's easy to surmise we are not in the same place for our appreciation of deer hunting in this state. Have you hunted out of NY? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
That's so relative though. If the deer had great soil based food sources the results may be negligible but if they were poor it's almost instantaneous. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Actually many of the areas post cwd outbreak end up producing the best high graded bucks after a couple years due to decreased herd and hunting pressure.... some argue that there is also a genetic perseverance. Could argue it either way. But baiting/feeding has been illegal for how long and how has that affected cwd here? What does the DEC know about cwd here? It is known to be a deer farm problem and can only be verified post mortum.... so grasping at straws for a problem we don't have. I could argue minerals with vitamins and antibiotics could potentially reduce natural cwd contraction too..... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

In what quantity!?!? 220,000 bucks killed and there are 200 over 150" Or 4 (real not DEC bs) years old in the whole state. Genetics are the issue- entitled gun hunters are... the same group that won't shoot does, knows nothing of conservation... just a I earned it trip to camp/"the country". First the phrase personal attack is used... it's just a matter of time before high fence hunters need a safe space Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sadly a friend near Avon claims a farmer was doing that, had encon called, they said it was legit but a lousy practice. His goal was bring in predators for deer control and the fox population that they chase with horses. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Just curious on why a 3 pt is too small but a 4 pt is okay (and yes I saw you said per side). I think you should up your goals to a no on a 3yo and yes on a 4yo because your previous approach was killing babies regardless. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Amen. Scouting a few days every week all year.... only hunt a few. That adage about sharpening axes comes to mind. Most don't have a clue what NY, let alone where they hunt, has for deer. This thread makes me crack up to think that some feel the experience will be enhanced by passing poorer genetics 1yos and knocking out the better ones will lead to more opportunities is sickening. Can't fix stupid. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
CWD is a cloak for something with an agenda. If mineral sites are the issue we better cut down apples, pull water tubs, etc. Some of the hardest hit areas have nothing to do with such practices. Just another example of how all book smart nonhunters are on a tirade but get enough pressure from deer farmers dollars not to call a spade a "spade". Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It's legal to shoot a deer, tag it and let it rot- how many support that? Some people just have a greater urge and ability to spend than aptitude to get off their ass.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

For the most part- I see it as an inverse relationship between age and interest in AR. Ironically- those with the most time afield, and free time in general, still feel their interest should captain the boat. Can see the start to every AR opposition letter .... I've been hunting 45 years and this antler restriction crap is for the birds..... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

The state has to manage for culture more than the herd. Changes from Sunday hunting, multiple youth bills and seasons, etc... yet minimal interface or understanding of what the herd is in terms of health. They hide behind their numbers from their math from their small samples. Point in being the DEC will never be an ally with regard to improving deer hunting for those in it for the deer as they're about selling admission for the privilege. Not saying this to just slam the dec but letting a 4 Pt become a 5pt won't change the pressure, total take or overall age structure. It will merely bump the median age of the take. I'll back ARs as they should make the pumpkins look before they shoot ..... but know the culture will stay until the current generation passes and by the time hunting could be better here- we will be lucky to hunt. As long as it presides in local town courts they'll get away with it forever. Apparently we need more youth and crossbows to stop lawlessness. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
